•Operators allege sabotage –Expert

Three years after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) signed a currency swap deal with the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of that arrangement, especially as the free fall of naira, currently standing at N570/$1 at the parallel market persists.

In April 2018, the CBN issued the regulations for a US$2.5 billion currency swap agreement in June same year; designed to facilitate trade between the two countries and enhance foreign reserve management.

But tongues have already started wagging that the N720 billion swap deal for at least 15 billion Yuan (Renminbi) (equivalent of $2.4 billion in June 2018) between the two countries has failed to achieve its purpose since it was sealed.

The Bilateral Currency Swap (BCS) agreement was inspired by trade facilitation. It was to allow importers of goods from China to conclude their transactions in Yuan instead of the US Dollar) and vice-versa. This was done to reduce the demand of the US dollars, lift the undue pressure on the naira at the time, consistent with the CBN’s naira management strategies.

While the CBN has continued with the implementation of the BCS with the Peoples’ Bank of China through fortnightly Renminbi auctions, it was gathered that bureaucratic bottlenecks have become a major challenges for traders and importers transacting business with China.

Welcome to Nigeria where everything is collapsing.

Siemens Power deal, Ajaokuta Revival all collapsing, no one in the whole cabinet has the brains to follow these through after Abba kyari demise.
Those that have the brains have been relegated to the back seat to watch how everything collapses.

Naija government have no direction and no body gets the axe when things don't go as planned.

They keep making policies that are ineffective at the detriment of the citizens.. They never take responsibility.

It is shameful that we still waste some much money in the name of subsidy and after six years of Buhari in power, no new refinery built. We are in serious debt and have very little to show.

Federal roads are now major death trap.

Things are really bad... Only our leaders gets to lick the honey

It doesn't matter how good an initiative is. When incompetent people are brought in to oversee the initiative, it will surely collapse. Meanwhile, China has cashed out. They are dealing with ignorant illiterates in the Nigerian govt and they know it.

This Fulani govt has made this country, a cash cow for China. No wonder they decided to bring Chinese banks to Nigeria; so they can launder, syphon and pack all the money they can grab while the brain-zamaged fo0ls are in power.
It is finished.

Nonsense and ingredients! China wey no get himself for like 2 years now with the serious covid-19 palava and Hong Kong/Taiwan and Donald Trump attack until dey sack am last year, na hin go get time for currency swap?

Anything like this must wait until China recover fully! As I type here, some companies don shut down and some parts of China dey in darkness due to the soaring energy cost.
