have read all the comments some are on point some are off point.

H.I.D is getting OLD and old people behave like babies

AWOLOWO was a GREAT LEGEND that have live from south-west, He fought for himself and the entire YORUBA race during His time and since then we have not gotten any yoruba great man again that can stand head tall with the ruling VAMPIRES until the emergence of TINUBU who stood and defend the ideology of AWO, fought and retain his second term in office.

We should be all be greatful to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for standing head tall among everyone to fight PDP.

if NOT for HIM NIGERIA will have been a ONE-PARTY Country but all other parties now know PDP is not indomitable.

Lets give honour to who honour is due

Firstly AWO and Secondly TINUBU

UP Awo, UP Tinubu UP YORUBA land Up SW Up NAija.

peaceout.

The hypocrisy of the leaders today knows no bounds, Mama HID is being insulted and dragged through the pages of newspapers and blog sites at over 90 and some people don't see anything wrong with that. The writer has committed sacrilege and he will surely reap his just rewards, he should have asked the question why didn't his paymasters get a Yoruba man to do this hatchet job am sure none would have done it as well as he has. I presume the writer is from Benin and no one indigene or not would dare insult Omo N'Oba Erediauwa and get away with it. The claims Tribune supported Daniels and Akala is just trying to give a dog a bad name to hang it, isn't the Nation doing the exact same thing Tribune is been accused of, doesn't This Day act as the government of the day's mouth piece so why are they pained that Tribune is not dancing to their tunes? Do they craved that badly for any kind of Awolowo endorsement? For all those who know nothing of the political history of the Yoruba's go and research and read up on it before coming here and spewing your venom. Mama at a point offered to kneel down for the warring factions of the Afenifere groups to appeal to their good nature in other to keep the unity, but what came of it? This politics of if you don't agree with me then you are my enemy being played by this self styled leaders just confirms the kind of characters we have in politics today. Has the writer asked why there isn't any direct descendant of the Late Sardauna Sir Ahmadu Bello actively in politics today or that of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe or even that of Pa Anthony Enahoro who is from his part of the country, but he has taken it upon himself to criticise Mama about the legacy left behind by the Late Sage a clear case of crying more than the bereaved. All this lazy journalism is exactly why we are where we are as a nation, why not just report the facts and let the readers make up their minds and form an opinion, not in my country they have to force feed you with their opinion disguised as facts. I trust the many descendants of Awo will respond in due course to this affront, not all the likes running around today after one state governor or another or even the ones shamelessly playing god.

Those of you beratting HID Awolowo and the Tribune like ACN apologists are doing are being hypocritical. The truth is, no matter how hard the newspapers try, they are always politically prejudiced. I remember that I wrote Tunde Fagbenle - a featured columnist in the Sunday Punch about his disgusting comments on the PDP and undeserved praises of the ACN after Aregbesola took over the governance of Osun State. He told his readers that "the progressives are taking over the South-West and that Akala should get ready bla bla bla". Not that I hate ACN or belong to the PDP, I got irritated by his definition of anything ACN as progressive. He corrupted and abused the word "Progrssive" in my opinion because I know Aregbesola very well and I have a family friend who is privy to all the nonsense he and Tinubu did in Lagos State when he held forth as the Commissioner for Works in Lagos state. Before this, there had been a shake-up in the editorial board of the Punch that saw the end of some people's career because of allegations of bribery and counter accusations that were all centered on Tinubu/Fashola's bribery of some editors. Some junior editors accused some seniors of stepping down any damaging story on Tinubu/Fashola. The ACN sure knows how to buy the press.

I narrated the experience above because we all need to get it clear that all the newspapers in Nigeria are under the influence of politicians and political parties without exception. So what is the big deal if Tribune leans towards the PDP? Wasn't the Punch (at some point, don't know about now) bought over by Tinubu?? Isn't the nation founded primarily to launder the image of the ACN? So what is Tinubu & Joe Igbokwe's headache??

I am sorry for Tinubu, Joe Igbokwe and their ilks because they are playing with fire. We know those who truly have the interest of the South-West at heart and we know those who are posing as champions of the people but who are actually business men. Tinubu can try but he can never, ever be like Awolowo and he will only be Asiwaju of Yoruba in his dreams. If he likes let him continue to wear Awolowo-like goggles, he can never be like him!!!!

Many people swarm NL these days to showcase what I can say confirm them of one suffering from intellectual hollowness.

Before you weave any disjointed comments riding off the intellectual purlase.

This is an excerpt from the article that HID replied:

"The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off. But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.

I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit."

Before making any comment safe yourself from commonsensical embarasment troding a way of intellectual civility.

For those that cares, the full article.

Other than the inconsequential UPE introduced in western region of Nigeria by government led Awolowo, what exactly is the acclaimed positive legacy of Awo?
Re: Awolowo’s Dynasty Cannot Be Rubbished - H.I.D. Awolowo Tells Tinubu And Co by fadhill: 3:05pm On Jun 09, 2011
These are the confirmed POSITIVE LEGACY OF AWOLOWO:

The Action Group, from 1951 had demonstrated itself to be a party with sophisticated party ideology and political governance. It was a political party with demonstrable commitment to the welfare of the people. It was a party committed to the provision of basic education, quality health care service, integrated rural development and provision of infrastructure. It was the AG government that fully funded free and compulsory primary education when the other regions still shut the doors of knowledge against their people. It was the AG government that established the first television station, the first radio station and the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan. The AG also produced the first regional government that loaned the central government of Alhaji Tafawa Balewa seven million pounds. The AG government invested in agriculture and used the proceeds thereof to build the magnificent Cocoa House, Ibadan first in tropical Africa. Under Awo, the South-West was the food basket of the country. The Awolowo government was also responsible for the establishment of industrial estates in Ikeja, Badagry and Epe. The AG government led by Awolowo also established the prestigious University of Ife now called Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The university was established as a model African university under the effective leadership of Prof. Oladele Ajose and Prof. Ezekiah Oluwasanmi. The Awo government, in the Second Republic, founded the Unity Party of Nigeria, a party which was able to win Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and the old Bendel states, which the late Tai Solarin christened the LOBOO states. The UPN had four cardinal points of development, which included health, housing, education and rural integration. The UPN espoused progressive ideology and paraded such outstanding personalities like the Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the late Chief Bola Ige, the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin, and the late Ambrose Alli. These men of honour were not only eminently qualified for governorship position, they were also men of good public service and records. They were already household names before they were elected as governors of the UPN. Jakande, who was popularly called Baba Kekere, was the Action Governor of Lagos State. Jakande made remarkable achievements in education, with the establishment of Lagos State University in 1983. He built housing estates and expanded secondary schools. His administration also improved water transportion system through Ita Faji and Baba Kekere ferry services. He conceived the metro line project, which was aborted by the Gen. Muhammadu Buhari administration. Ambrose Alli established the Bendel State University, Ekpoma, just as Bola Ige established the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, while Ajasin established the Ondo State University. Onabanjo established, among many projects, the Ogun State University, which has now been named after him.

Go study Ostrich brainner.

See wetin den turn the Tribune into,

War against Tribune: Before Tinubu’s fall

Written by Abiodun Awolaja Tuesday, 15 March 2011

There is an expansionist agenda being fuelled right now by Bola Tinubu across political and media lines, but the truth will ultimately prevail over falsehood. In the past few weeks, we have seen Tinubu’s dogs picking their teeth, as the Yoruba would say, with the Nigerian Tribune. “Tribune getting out of control, “ “Tribune’s descent into infamy,”, “Tribune, CJN and the PCA,” etc. Although no columnist on the paper uses the medium to launch an attack on any other medium, the innovation that we have seen in The Nation, which points to a dedicated and systematic war against the Tribune, may yet turn out to be the gateway to previously undisclosed criminality. I am here, neither to warn nor to announce war, but simply to point another Yoruba proverb up: Ibere ote lo se ri, igbeyin ote ko ma sunwon. (Only the outset of rebellion is tolerable, the end thereof is unpalatable indeed).

Is the Nation at war against the Nigerian Tribune? As the Yoruba would say, who pounded yam for Tinubu and assured him that getting soup would not be a problem? Who does this fellow think he is? The Nation at war against Tribune? When a cripple cries for war, men of wisdom mourn him. Perhaps, this would be a very unequal fight, like the potential Catholic trying to canonise the pope. But first, some preliminary observations. One, the Tribune has survived its founder, grown from strength to strength since Awo passed on. The paper is in its 61st year, and does not survive by government funding. The founder of the paper, proponent of the regime of mental magnitude, neither smoked, drank nor womanised, factors which have contributed to the paper’s continued existence. Had Awo been a womaniser, or an executive who would abandon a state meeting for a fleeting dialogue with marijuana, the Tribune would be history today. As Soyinka says in A Dance of the Forests: Proverbs to bones and silence.

Ever so often the Tribune editors gather in the boardroom, seeking the mercies of the God of heaven, and the paper’s phenomenal growth is a lucid testimony of the deep respect that it gives to the author of life. The paper will die only when God Almighty does change His mind about His word: Those who honour me, I will honour.

Let’s state the common charge by the ACN and its pamphlet, The Nation: the Tribune is a PDP paper. This is an unsophisticated thesis, but intellectualism is fast fading from the land. At an Omoluabi lecture held at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, I heard an emeritus professor of History, Akinjide Osuntokun, propound this thesis: “What is clear is that ACN is a party of the left while PDP is a party of the right.” I smiled. ACN a party of the left? We hope the spirit of inquiry is not departing from the land.

Consider Fashola. What leftism is discernible in Fashola’s governance? All round Lagos, we see capitalism in its purest, murderous form. This governor, who has taken care of entry point of Lagos to the detriment of other areas, has been canonised by the media, so much so that some jesters even bandy the myth of a mega city. Lagos is currently a fiefdom please, and we have provided concrete evidence.

However, in using Fashola’s example to ridicule other governors in the country, the paid buffoons do not address the questions of how much the state generates per month in relation to others, its status as a former federal capital and the economic nerve centre of the country, the rate of development which Fashola met, and so on. Sam Omatseye, a man who rushed to the press, armed with ignorance, looked round and when he thought no one was watching, he wrote of Chief Segun Oni: ‘The man with the phony Awo cap,’ still in his doggerel entitled,  ‘Tribune getting out of control. Real meaning: We’re finding it difficult getting the Tribune off the stands. And if Segun Oni, a man under whom Ekiti was rated by the UNDP as having the highest life expectancy in Nigeria, a man whom Fayemi himself lauded, is a fake Awoist, then, we must ask Omatseye to define Awoism. The impression one gets is that Omatseye is blinded by Asiwajuic passions, the same primitive mentality that made him to describe a state governor as having “ascended the throne,” meaning that the people who supposedly elected him are now his subjects. Educated illiterates are always a headache.

But let’s look at economic theory. Pray, do Fashola, Fayemi, Aregbesola and Oshiomhole practise democratic socialism? How many state-controlled business outfits do these governors manage? Where are the flashpoints of revolutionary aesthetics, the mobilisation of the masses to the centre of economic planning? What qualitative differences are discernible between the manifestoes of the PDP and the ACN or the ANPP? Does Professor Osuntokun really mean to say that Segun Oni, Gbenga Daniel or Adebayo Alao-Akala do not believe in resource control, in a fiscal federalism by virtue of the theory of Yoruba mainstreaming in Nigerian politics? The theory, articulated by the late Sunday Afolabi and other PDP men, is false, as we have argued elsewhere.

Enter Mohammed Haruna, the latest harlequin. His headline is innocuous: Tribune, CJN and the PCA. Thesis: Tribune is working for the CJN. In Haruna’s thinking, blind defence of Salami, a man who has thoroughly rubbished the Court of Appeal, is informed analysis. We will be addressing Haruna, an astute defender of odd causes and a northern neophyte, in a separate piece, preferably on his birthday.

The Nation often deceives the nation. Headline: ‘Jonathan disowns Daniel.’ A malicious lie. Jonathan merely said that he knew nothing about the plan to make Daniel chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). Please, note that I do not know Daniel from Adam. Another story: How we helped Oni to rig in Ekiti-PDP witness. A lie: The Election Petitions chairman even threatened to jail The Nation’s Ekiti correspondent. Why? The tribunal did not sit on the day that correspondent filed the story.

Dare, Haruna, Omatseye and other columnists in The Nation always abuse Dr Jonathan. This man, who they ridicule because of his mild nature, let us remind them, is the president of this country. Here is a man who took time to explain his choice of words at a rally, the first time we have seen such humility. Bola Tinubu, their patron god, is a gnome given to gutter language, a political herdsman and scoundrel calling the president a drunken sailor. Indeed, none of the ACN leaders is known to have ever apologised like the president did. Bola Tinubu, his dogs suggest, should take over the Nigerian Tribune, but we were in the country before these vermin, and will be here when they have been confined to the dustbin of history, people who cannot see beyond the rustle of currency notes, apologies to Niyi Osundare; wild, analphabetic thugs, as Benedict Thitokun would say.

Ibere ote lo se ri,

Awolaja is on the staff of the Nigerian Tribune.

What is your business with the Tribune? The Nation is nothing beside the Tribune. ANd you have no idea about Awo, especially your types. If Awo was alive, you would have been doing the job you are fit to do. Carrying the poo of old people. Stop trying to put people down to get ahead. Tinubu is not the one to point fingers. This rabble rousing piece is not any better. It is clear to any discerning observer that Tribune has become a mouth-piece for the same reactionary forces that frustrated Baba in his lifetime, what a shame!

How baba must turn in his grave at what has become of our favourite Tribune.

This is a paper i grew up with to be non partisan, objective infact i dream of it representing true, fair interest of the masses but now they are hungry of PDP cash. How has ACN turn to party of imposition unlike tribune's money warlords (PDP) policians that force themselves to sit on peoples mandate even unaccounted for. Of what use is a party that ruleth in shame and rigour. Sam may not be right sayin this Tribune "it is a mouthpiece for decadence and political corruption at a high level.

The Tribune: a caricature of Awo’s legacy

Pease do not get me wrong; we cannot criticize “success” because the Tribune is raking in scads of money, thanks to its total commitment to the cause of the ruling PDP, especially in Yorubaland. We need, however, to redefine “success” in this particular case.

In the dying days of Lam Adesina as governor of Oyo State, he had a statue of Awo erected in front of the Government House, a befitting honor to one who was the voice of the voiceless not only in Yorubaland but in Nigeria. Awo’s ideals were unassailable but he never had a chance to have the whole country as his laboratory but what he achieved in his Western Nigeria lab was a template that would have taken Nigeria to the league of today’s Asian Tigers.

That statue was knocked down the first week of the tenure of Rashid Ladoja, the PDP governor by people who purportedly had their instructions from the Oyo PDP enforcer, Adedibu. That statue would remain on the ground for a long time until something in army uniform – it resembles Babangida’s image – would take its place. Insane? Worse things were to follow.

When Adedibu celebrated a birthday, I could not believe my eyes when I saw a full page ad in the Tribune attributed to Wole Awolowo, son of the sage and head of the newspaper; the congratulatory message included the word “my father”!

One would have expected the Tribune head to rally the troops – millions in every corner of Yorubaland and beyond – to get that statue back up, and it would have gone back up but what, apparently, is a little thing like chasing commerce over legend?

While Awo’s family is free to chart another political ideology that is different from the sage’s, it – the newfound political ideology – cannot, however, continue to be linked to Awo’s: “voice of the voiceless, mouthpiece of the common man”, etcetera.

Several years ago when I wrote “Yoruba leadership not for sale” before Ogun State politics became completely totalitarian, the state’s governor took umbrage and, using a lackey who would soon become persona non grata like me, went to town – country, really – with fliers about me. That essay had had reason to mention that if Obasanjo, despite being head of state failed to become Yoruba leader, Obas who were being courted for that purpose – and even Mama (Mrs.) Awolowo – would not have a say in who eventually becomes Yoruba leader because the family had long departed from Awo’s political path.

The chance is always there for The Tribune to revert to the goals set by the founder. We millions who truly believed in him – not the fake Awoists for whom the cap IS the ideology – cannot wait to see the change, and with The Broom Revolution having swept the remaining vestiges of internal colonialism from Yorubaland, the time for change is now.

Very good, desperation has pushed them to finally show their true intentions. This is great. Tinubu, more grease to your elbow. Running from pillar to post to destroy people that do not support you. Yoruba, e la oju yin. We are dealing with a dictator. The earlier we realise the better. This is the Yoruba Hitler.

I know you think you're doing something good, but all you're doing is killing the flow of discussion and stagnating the threads. You can not police every inch of NL by making up rules with your biased and selective application of power and censorship .

You are a distraction and a thread killer. Why not just take over NL and start posting and responding to yourself since what people are typing on NL is not good enough for you?
