Nigerians and tiles. In France it only medical doctors that can use the title of Dr. Phd programmes are for those in academics and they don't use title Dr. They put Phd after their name.
In some countries as well, use of Dr title for non- physcian is restricted in any healthcare setting and if you have to use Dr, you must qualify it so as not to confuse the patients.
If you are yet to get your Phd, use Phd (in view), you are still a candidate.

Most modern lawyers educated in USA have Doctor Juris or JD including Obama, Clinton, etc. You never hear anyone call them Dr.

Worse is honorary doctor degree holders using Dr everywhere. By convention, if you have an honorary degree, it should be:

Mrs Otutukpoyoyo Shekaugida Sambisa PhD (honoris causa)

Otunba Ogedengbe Onyeagbulam Fapohunda. DSc (ad honorem)

hc = honoris causa and equivalent to ad honorem, although ad honorem is not that commonly used these days.

They are used mostly as suffixes. But in 9ja, we must prefix names with big titles.

You should know this:
You're only a PhD student if you're still in your coursework. You make the transition from PhD student to PhD candidate (or 'in-view' as it is fondly called in Nigeria) after you complete all your coursework and your comprehensive exams. A PhD candidate’s sole task is to conduct their research and write their dissertation.

You would be addressed as a Dr. after you have defended your PhD dissertation successfully.

Please, MPhil is another program entirely in-between Masters and Doctorate. It is an advanced postgraduate degree short for Master of Philosophy and purely research-based. It is mostly undertaken by those who are on their way to Ph.D. Mostly used to determine your research skills or upgrade your master's score grade so as to be eligible for a Ph.D. program.

. However PhD in view is meaningless for it adds no special value until the program is completed. Fir example if you are on your PhD you will be employed based on your MA or MSC. If you are on your MA or MSC you will be employed based on your BA or Bsc. So in view program has no value in academics until it is completed.

Your information is not based on real-time education industry experience. In academics today, if you are applying for an Assistant LWith ecturer position with a PhD in view on your CV, you mile's ahead of other applicants who have not started. In academics it is called evidence of PhD registration; anyone in the system knows this.

So please it means something to the industry but people outside the industry do not know. You hear?
