University of Nigeria Nsukka is the second oldest University in Nigeria and the first indigenous university in Nigeria. UNN was established in 1960 while Uni of Ile Ife was established two years later. Uche, please do not be in a hurry to rebutt my posts. |

@ Andrew Uwe, Adejoro74, Ystranger, Igbo boy, Ileke, Eko ile, Katsumoto and the rest of the Igbo and Yoruba tribalist This thread is meant to be educative and not abusive We are not her to flex muscles or engage in tussles If you have nothing to contibute, spare us your bigotry. It appears you guys are incapable of making any statements that has no tribal undertone and it is purely a pity. Nothing bad in loving your tribe but there is everything bad in being a tribal fanatics. |

agabaI23: Do you have reading and comprehension problems? Can you point to one single tribalistic post from me? If you can't find it, I expect an apology. adejoro74.: Ojukwu and Victor Banjo both enlisted in the army at the same time; not sure who enlisted first. Will check and get back; but its not conclusive Ojukwu enlisted first. |

adejoro74.: Will you just stop these lies. Like seriously, its getting annoying. It could not have been because, for starters, Yorubas were more, and are still more educated than Ibos, I am saying this with all humility that it deserves. Anyway: He joined the civil service in Eastern Nigeria as an Administrative Officer at Udi, in present-day Enugu State. In 1957, within months of working with the colonial civil service, he left and joined the military as one of the first and few university graduates to join the army: O. Olutoye (1956); C. Odumegwu-Ojukwu (1957), E. A. Ifeajuna and C. O. Rotimi (1960), and A. Ademoyega (1962). Katsumoto: This is from Reuben Abati, the strongman of Ramat House. I want to believe he did his homework before writing that. Lt Col Victor Adebukunola Banjo, born April 1, 1930, was the first Nigerian Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps of the Nigerian Army. He joined the Army in 1953 as Warrant Officer 52 and he was the sixteenth Nigerian to be commissioned as an officer. (NA 16). A product of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he also obtained a B Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. His travails began immediately after the January 15, 1966 coup, which brought Major-General Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi to power. Hmmm, they lived and sacrificed and persevered so we may be proud of them and challenge ourselves to be better than they were, and advance the cause they fought for better than they did. We stand on their shoulders so we may see further. Hopefully, those coming after us would be able to stand on ours! |
Re: A Thread For Nigeria's Firsts by Katsumoto: 3:20pm On Jun 14, 2011 |
Ystranger: Thanks for that. I wasn't sure when Banjo finished from the Royal Military College and U.I. adejoro74.: Who is Olutoye? It is up to you whether you want to know about Olutoye. What is relevant is that Olutoye and Ojukwu were both graduates and Olutoye joined the Army one year before Ojukwu. Ileke-IdI: I dey; how your side? |
Re: A Thread For Nigeria's Firsts by adejoro76: 3:33pm On Jun 14, 2011 |
Who is Olutoye? His name does not ring a bell and we (I) would like to know who he is in Nigeria. That is a simple assignment, I guess. Was Banjo a graduate before he enlisted into the army? |

Re: A Thread For Nigeria's Firsts by Katsumoto: 3:51pm On Jun 14, 2011 |
adejoro74.: Mekus aka akinegba You are showing gaps in your $2 million education again. There is a difference between first to join the army and first to gain a combatant commision. Do you think any graduate can just join the army and be immediately GIVEN a combatant commission. According to the first post you made which was 'the first graduate in the Army', Olutoye would be the answer to that. |
