Violence Not Peculiar To Nigeria - Presidency Responds To Daily Trust Editorial by BeeBeeOoh(m): 10:27pm On Dec 12, 2021
The Presidency has responded to Sunday’s Editorial of Daily Trust on the widespread insecurity in the country.

In the piece, which went viral, and attracted so many comments, this newspaper made references to carnage being witnessed across the country, especially in the North.

From the burning alive of passengers by bandits in Sokoto, to the murder of Dr Rabe Nasir, former Commissioner of Science and Technology in Katsina, to the blood shed by bandits at a mosque in Niger State, among others.

In one of the thousands of social media comments on the editorial, Shehu Sani, a former Senator, wrote, “When the most prominent newspaper from the North has in its Editorial that ‘Life has lost its value under Today’s Buhari’, the question is; where are those from the North who defended the failure of this government and insulted all those who criticised or simply advised the same government?”

But in a response issued by Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, the presidency admitted that Daily Trust properly identified the source of the problem.

However, it said this is not peculiar to Nigeria, adding that the Federal Government is doing its best to reverse the ugly trend.

“Given the seriousness of the issue raised by The Daily Trust today, the Office of the President would like to issue a response.”

“The growing instability and violence in the North of Nigeria and elsewhere is unacceptable. No one, not least the Presidency underestimates the seriousness of the situation. Every day, the President holds the victims and their families in his thoughts and prayers. Above all, he wishes to reassure them – and all Nigerians – that tackling the scourge of banditry and terrorism remains this government’s first priority.

“Sadly, in this respect, Nigeria is not unique. Violence and terror have risen steadily across the entire African continent over the last decade. The Economist magazine in a recent publication wrote about “The Next Afghanistan,” warning the global community of the horrifying security in our neighborhood, citing specifically the states of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. So we understand the frustrations of the Daily Trust and Nigeria’s northern communities about the ongoing challenges of security and the Buhari administration is no less worried. But it is only fair to say that Nigeria’s persistent and continued efforts to suppress that instability have seen results, with terror group Boko Haram among others reduced to a shell of its former self.

“Yet now we Nigerians face a new threat: the worst global health crisis in living memory. Even Nigeria that proudly holds the mantle of Africa’s largest economy is not immune from the debilitating economic impact of COVID-19. The economic instability that the pandemic has wreaked has proven an effective recruitment tool for bandits and terrorists across the continent.

“Indeed, the Daily Trust has correctly identified the source of the violence as “an amalgam of many complex issues” such as poverty and unemployment. It is equally right to note that, in tackling the violence, “force alone will not be enough.” It is quite wrong, however, to suggest the problem of insecurity is intractable, and more wrong still to claim apathy on the part of the government,” the statement read.

What government is doing’

Shehu listed some of the steps being taken by government to secure lives and assured Nigerians of a better tomorrow.

“First, our military efforts have not let up. It is true that in the face of today’s growing number of threats from Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers and IPOB to your run of the mill bandits, our forces are stretched increasingly thin. But our dedicated soldiers are working around the clock to keep Nigerians safe.”

“Second, alongside military force, this government is seeking to address the violence at its economic source. Massive infrastructure Projects like the coastal rail and new train from the southern coast through the north-east to our neighbour Niger aim to expand employment and opportunity across the country, bringing hope to our more remote and poorer regions where bandits and terrorists thrive.

“Third, even as the West continues to extricate itself from Africa militarily, we are lobbying our Western allies aggressively for partnership, investment and support in other areas, such as proscribing Boko Haram, bandits and IPOB as terrorist groups, which would severely dent their funding; for investment in trade and infrastructure, to help lessen economic instability; and to help with technical assistance, advanced weaponry, intelligence and ordinance.”

Next thing is to 'invite' Daily Trust publishers or the Editor for a cup of coffee by the DSS.

This is our current common reality.

Buhari's rail construction seems to be the solution to all our problems.

When faced with insecurity, they will remind us he built rails

When faced with lack of jobs, they will talk about rails

When faced with poverty, they would find a way to smuggle the rail inside

pathetic response as usual

If a bus filled with Nigerian human beings including Children is set ablaze, I expect the president to relocate his headquarters to that place and personally lead the hunt operations until the perpetrators are apprehended; this is what they would do in a sane country. But what we get is that life simply goes on as if nothing happened and this happens over and over again. With all due respect sir, this sort of madness, impunity, and gross incompetence in governance is peculiar to Nigeria.

Ironically, it is the same people who shouted 'Sai Baba' who are now at the receiving end of the worst forms of banditry, armed robbery, and kidnapping in the far North. The North Central has had and still has its own share of madness from killer herdsmen and bandits while East of the divide they are fighting for their lives in the hope that somehow they can gain freedom from all of these

But in the midst of all these, and like the great Bishop, I am at Peace because I warned those around me that it is foolery to think that an incompetent illiterate will solve your country's problems

You cannot cure a sickness or problem without admitting there is any.

This is not the first time Buhari cabinet admit there are problems.

But they cannot solve these problems because they are self inflicted. It is coming home to bite them.

If Buhari is serious, he must appoint people more competent than members of his cabinet. Lopsided appointments from the the North regardless of competence is killing Nigeria.

They will keep denying till the day they hand over successfully to the terrorists then Buhari will hoard a plane and wave to Nigerians for the last time as he flees the country like his brother did when Talibans took over Afghanistan. People think this can’t happen but I see it as their master plan! Now Gumi is already denying he has no hand since they have been declared terrorists so when they do what they have in mind he will easily say he isn’t a part of it. Make thunder fire Fulani , Fulani anywhere in the world is the ENEMY!

"...The reason Buhari won’t do anything about the growing insecurity in the northwest is that the perpetrators of the crimes that have held the region hostage have been identified as Fulani.Buhari is a knee-jerk ethnic jingoist. He has a twisted idea of ethnic solidarity....

The president’s puppeteers have caused him to express faux, impotent outrage to mollify the people of the northwest, but the truth is that he doesn’t care. The government Buhari leads can’t and doesn’t want to stem the rising tide of insecurity in the northwest or anywhere else in Nigeria...."

These people are always acting incredibly stupid and irresponsible. How can you be rationalising the same insecurity your met yet worsened? Most people under this regime are spokesmen and advocators of treasonable terrorist elements. Hence isecurity can not solve Insecurity.

But these useless idiots in accidental government never thought about this when Buhari said that he will defeat BH in 2months while he was the BH himself
Thunder fire all his useless zombies who keep on defending his many unpardonable gaffes.

A government that massacred Nigerians in Zaria, the South-East, claiming to be looking for Nnamdi Kanu and across Nigeria during the Endsars protest is the same government that should have feelings for just '42' people massacred... the bandits are following on their footsteps.
A government that is taxing everything and increasing their services to the masses at the time of COVID-19 economic woes is the one people are expecting to control prices- the masses are only following on their footsteps.
A government that supported open grazing against a constitutional elected governors is the one you expect to tame the bandits- the bandits are just expressing their government support.
Common, nothing to gain from this plague of a government.

We will prevail over these insecurity. While many are overjoyed when this security problems happen, we know that the collective will of our military to overcome this violence and prayers of good people will see us overcomes this. All those who dance to bloodshed shall surely be visited by evil fortunes and sadness rather than political success.

The same way the previous governments did not understand that, infrastructure development is the foundation for economic development.

Economic development is the best solution to insecurity.

Why are there more criminals in Mushin than VI? You do the math.

When will daily trust do an editorial about how the wretched northerners are compounding security problem by giving birth to millions of almajiris?

I do not think there's anywhere in the world where you have ready made foot soldiers for violence than northern Nigeria.

While it is ok to drag Buhari for insecurity because it is his job to secure Nigeria, I do not think the northern masses are ready to secure themselves.

I know people in my Company that earn less than 50 thousands monthly, but have 2 wives and 10 children, half of the children are on the streets waiting to be recruited by anyone with food and shelter.

NORTHERN MASSES TOO NEEDS TO LOOK AT THEMSELVES
