Will A Confederal System Of Government Work In Nigeria? by Blonchilli(m): 12:51pm On Jan 14, 2022
2023 Presidential election is a year away and as usual Nigeria politicians have started to remember the masses and what their jobs entails. from the usual photo with the market woman to carrying that malnourished baby and walking the street like the average Nigerian while they spent 3 years running the citizens to death and another 1 year campaigning but ignore the obvious problems that needs to be addressed. Erlier today I read on twitter that Bola Tinubu donated 50 million naira to victims of recent bandits attacks. Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi has made known her intention to run for Presidency, Kingsley Moghalu is out again as well as several of them.
Niccolo Machiavelli said in his book The Prince, “It is not titles that honor men, but men that honor titles.” You see our leaders only worry about their pockets and power that they dont even know how to carry about their antics with flare and admiration. Terrorism in the north, highway kidnapping, high rate of poverty that crime now looks like the only way yet they cant get their head out of their diarrhea buttocks to fix the problem. Confederalsim.
A confederation is a system of government in which sovereign states delegate power to a central government for specific purposes. In the last 6 years the nation has never been divided from tribal conflicts especially the igbos agitation of Biafra, genocide on several northern tribes and the recent #Endsars saga and the ban of twitter 2023 election can either save us as a nation of spiral us down a path we cannot recover from. Grant the north, east, west and south autonomous power to decide economical, religious and security affairs within its territories but use the federal government to regulate trade between these regions and external relations. “There is no avoiding war, it can only be postponed to the advantage of your enemy.”-Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince. To the gluttons in power this might seem like giving away power to those they attempt to keep it away from but if only we had a student of The soft power theory and The Prince tactics we can actually pull this off. a confederal system to give control over internal challenges to those who for years have sought this kind of influence over their own affairs whereas the federal system keeps trade relations and cultural exchange within the people together and manage external relations. To some extent it will give the igbos autonomous power, give the south control over the oil trade, give the north the right to implement sharia law and give the west what they seek.
“The lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves. One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves.”

- Niccolo` Machiavelli.

No matter who becomes the next President of Nigeria, as long as that President operates under this apartheid constitution called the "1999 constitution", he or she is bound to fail, just like all others before

Nigeria is a bus, the passengers are the citizens, the buses engine is the constitution. But the passengers are far concerned about who the driver will be, than if the bus engine is even fit for purpose. Unfortunately, no matter how good a driver is, if the engine is bad, he won't get very far

A confederal system of government will actually force those who believe in "one Nigeria" to work for it, rather than pay it lip service and take it for granted.

The good thing about a confederal system of government is that the centre is weak, and confederating units strong, which kills off any cry of marginalisation. Everyone operates in their territory and work for the common good of all

The bad thing about confederation is that it is easy for any confederating unit to secede and breakaway, and this usually happens when one confederating unit feels that another unit wants to take over

Can confederation work in Nigeria? For it to work, the confederating units must forget this current idea of "one Nigeria by force" and adopt "One Nigeria by work". In other words, the unity of the confederation is based on all working together for the greater good

This current system of "we have no other country than Nigeria", "the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct", "our unity is our diversity", "self determination is a crime", "Nigerias unity is non negotiable", "one Nigeria", are all complete nonsense

If you want unity, you must work for it, and if you cant work for it, admit the union is false and break up. Propping up a false union will only lead to years of internal conflict that will lead the union no where

Yes nothing works in this country but we can't continue doing thesame thing and expect a different result. A federal system will only work in a country where those running it are free and fair and practice true nationalism. With the agitations of the igbos and the turmoil in the north a confederal system is our only chance

U can't back this up with any claims ... Nigerians are among the most successful people in other countries ..in a working system it's obvious Nigerians are not the problem

Your thinking is that of a typical African ...u want people to just sit and decide from now I would be good , ...it has never happened before people are forced to behave

Why don't Nigeria break traffic laws outside or don't pay taxes they won't their because they know the system would catch them ...we see white people come to Nigeria and after awhile start acting like us

Allow people handle their affairs and grow at their own pace by the time for example yorubas gets it right then Igbo leaders would have to explain to Igbos why they cant get it right

Comrade you hit the needle on the head. You really understood my post and the whole idea of a confederal state. Yes the fact that it will make it easier for a section to break away is a good thing cause frankly the more we force the idea of a one Nigeria the more risky it is and could only propel us to another major conflict this time could be genocide. That will make other region work and grow at their own pace and this forced amalgamation will be a thing of the past. Put five men in a house, give each of them a room and the tools to work for themselves then you will see them grow and build together but put these same five men in a room and they'll kill themselves over who gets the bigger space. The signs are there, even if we should bring back Musa Yaradua, Abraham Lincoln or J.F Kennedy to lead the country he will still fail.

I'm actually waiting for a Nigerian president to surprise me.

Like pretending you want the status quo of corruption to continue..... but when he enters, he quickly makes Nigeria to run a regional form of government.

I believe it's only a southerner that can do that.

I agree with you. We have been trying a thesame method with no improvement. Studying the flaws of the system a confederal system is the way to go. Why dont we try it out and see where it leads us. It could be the last effort to try if we can rescue the country on the path it is set out for and if it doesnt work we go our separate ways

Same here comrade. A regional form of government is the only solution to this mess. How they go in there and do the same thing over and over again and not even considering the ripple effects baffles me because the bed you poured glass on in the morning is what you will lay on at night.

Everyone has from awolowo to ojukwu aburi accord to nadeco to Igbo delegate at the national conference to pendef

Restructuring to confederation of 6 zones is what everyone has been asking for then let people chose what zones they want to belong to
