Very good and courageous lesson.

No matter how hard things are irrespective of the situation try to survive, that's what it means.

everything is not motivational quote that yam has everything it needs in its body to reach this growing stage....give it few more weeks it will die off....

Same with onion

I got two tubers of yam sometimes last year, we cooked the first one, but while eating it, we discovered it was not sweet at all.

Since we can't just throw money away like that, we left the second yam there.

Lo and behold, after some time, the second yam started growing right there inside a tiled kitchen, even without been rooted in the subsoil.
It continues to grow rapidly but without leaf.
I took the picture of it as seen below in December 2021.
(Note: it has grown beyond this level now)
I want to see how far it can grow on the tiled surface in the kitchen.

As I be Architect, my biology no reach that level but I know we have botanist in house who can educate us about what is happening.

cheesy cheesy cheesy, exactly, just needs good soil and it will multiply. If he has space he can even grow it in a room, Yam is resilient, he just needs a very very big container, good drainage, aeration and Sunlight. I am not sure if the sunlight is will be sufficient to photo-synthesize a bigger yam crop, with more leaves to feed

Find soil go plant the yam

This is the kind of stuffs whitemen spend alot of money on, just to find out the cause, and how it could be useful in yam production where there's no or little soil, but I trust Nigerians, someone would soon come to that your house and cook that yam grin

me too. and i ate from the harvest too, it was much, i shared with neighbor, and harvest can be deep in the soil, one has to dig a lot.

It was from my experience i learnt how yam can multiply.

Someone said its good to talk positively to the crops, and they will produce what is also medicinal to the body, like a symbiotic relationship

This is normal occurrence in yam and even onion, that is what we call photosynthesis....

How is that photosynthesis?
Re: Yam Growing On Tiles (Pictures) by SilvanusII(m): 6:53pm On Jan 22, 2022
You think Yam is only food for you? The tuber is stored food for the plant itself na. When conditions are not favorable for photosynthesis and growth, it begins to eat what it has stored so it can survive until when conditions are okay.

Incredible

It's a common feature if you visit where it's cultivated, the sprout uses the water therein to germinate and grow. It dies off when the water is exhausted.

It is normal for yams to grow on surface. You jave to plant it in the ground for the tuber to rot and produce a new tuber for you to see leaves.

Yes! It's possible. But, you can't see leaves on it. That is: it will never grow with leave/Leaves.

As the only qualified Botanist in this forum certified by all member of this forum,I professor Merits.(MON).I hereby telling you that the yam will grow and multiply to thousands in the next three months, and as you said that the yam was not sweet that's why you abandoned it.Let me give a trick as a worldwide experienced Botanist.just sprinkle some sugar on the yam as it is,within 30 minutes of sprinkle the sugar the yam will absorbed the sugar through a process called osmosis grin.so therefore the seeds produce aftermath will surely sweet like amount of sugar you poured on to the mother yam.

let me stop here so people won't tap from my complex knowledge.

Conditions necessary for growth are moisture, air, heat, light and substrate with nutrients.

All those conditions are present, so it will continue to sprout until at least one of those conditions - likely nutrients - is no longer available.

And that should be very soon.
