Truth is, you can't compare both. The 2002 set were warriors. I still remember our games vs Senegal in 2000 and 2002. Those games were wars. They beat France and a very good Swedish team that had Henrik Larsson. They should have won the AFCON in 2002 if not for PK and luck saving Cameroon. They were far better than this present set.


Fadiga, Henri Camara, Ferdinand Coly, Aloiu Cisse, Habib Beye, Papa Diop, Salif Diao, El Hadji, Tony Sylva etc made up the 2002 squad..

This present set is kinda overrated bar Mane, Koulibaly, Mendy... What this Senegal team is missing is a Mikel or Fadiga type midfield controller. That's the missing piece.

They faced stronger sides then and triumphed. The Cameroon of Mboma and Etoo that they faced and lost to via penalties in 2002 final is much stronger than Egypt of this Afcon.

The team also beat a French team in their prime at the world cup and went on to reach the quarter finals which I believe supersedes their current nations cup trophy win.

I go with 2002.. majority of them were superstars but in this present team is Mane, Ismaila Sarr and Mendy

You'd get the answer if you square up the individual players against each other. If you do that you'd see that 2022 Afcon winners are clearly better.
