Even after the full length of explanation of why Russia is carrying out this attacks on Ukraine, u still fail to analytically comprehend. No body is supporting this bloody invasion, but first, understand the politics behind it (why NATO strongly want Ukraine as it's member and why Russia is fighting so hard to prevent that) and stop arguing from emotional point of view..... shocked
Ukraine chose to join..you guys can be so tiring to debate with..

You can't defend your country by attacking another for no reason..just like torturing your wife for saying she wanna divorce you..
NATO is still necessary because it protects its members from the “confusion, instability, unpredictability” which are persistent conditions in international affairs. So NATO doesn’t need to be against any specific state or group to continue to have a very important job to do...To prevent any more annexed Crimea’s and Russian occupied Ukraine.

So we can say he is only pushing back becuase he doesn't want more bases? A base in Latvia or Estonia can do equal damage to Moscow as well.

I believe one of the reason he is attacking Ukraine is that the country is a power house for the old USSR and still for Europe to an extent. Mineral resources rich, industrial rich and food basket for Europe.

I might be wrong

The Russian military is now less than 20 miles from Kiev the Ukrainian capital as we speak. That is less than 24 hours of fighting! If Ukraine knows they're this miserably hopeless, why didn't they do enough to stave off the invasion? There was no way The United States or NATO would have intervened to fight against a nuclear armed Russia. So what's the point putting your country through this mess? The West continues using these countries as cannon fodders in their senseless proxxy wars with Russia and China.

With due respect, I call bullsh^t on this. NATO knows exactly what it is doing. Putin is defending Russia in the face of threats from NATO and its members countries. From making incursions by sea too close to its boundaries (which Putin constantly warned against), to NATO's blatant romancing of Ukraine. "Invading a sovereign country"? The US does that surrepticiously all the time. At least Putin is not hiding under the banner of "democracy" or "enforcing human rights".
Maybe the West thinks Putin has mellowed with age because their actions are tantamount to poking a dog with a stick and expecting it not to snarl and snap. Or maybe they hope the world will roundly condemn Russia and set the stage for Putin's downfall. The west is nothing if not ruthlessly strategic. I just feel sorry for Ukraine. They will soon learn the two-faced nature of the west when they are left to stew in their own juice. How can you fight with your powerful brother right at your doorstep and think strangers across the world who have very little in common with you will protect you?

Putin simply has an expansionist agenda & would not stop until he reestablishes the Soviet Union.

NATO is a defence pact, not an aggressive one & if Russia doesn't want Ukraine joining NATO, it can do so by other means including political & economic sanctions rather than a full scale war.

Also, since the balkanisation of the SU, Russia has always threatened Ukraine, hence, Ukraine's intention to join NATO. The US & its NATO allies have never pushed Ukraine to join NATO. Putin is just power mad.

Further more, the silence of China is telling... it is watching closely. If Russia succeeds in getting Ukraine without much resistance from the West, China is going to take Taiwan & Tibet too...

The domino effect is that North Korea will invade South Korea, Pakistan will invade the disputed Kahmir region with India. Some Arab nations will attack Israel. Other smaller conflicts designed to grab more land will ensue...

That said, powers (empires) rise & fall. China seems to be the one to replace the declining dominance of the US & Russia is aware of this. But the question I always ask those who insult US is this, would you prefer to stay in an autocratic China or a democratic US?

The main reasons behind Russia and NATO stand-off.

*For those who ask: “Why does Ukraine matter? “*
This is why Ukraine matters.

It is the second largest country by area in Europe and has a population
of over 40 million - more than Poland.

Ukraine ranks:
1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores;
2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves;
2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves);
2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons);
2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves;
3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters)
4th in the world by the total value of natural resources;
7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons)

Ukraine is an important agricultural country:

1st in Europe in terms of arable land area;
3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume);
1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil;
2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports;
3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world;
4th largest producer of potatoes in the world;
5th largest rye producer in the world;
5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons);
8th place in the world in wheat exports;
9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs;
16th place in the world in cheese exports.

Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people.

Ukraine is an important industrialised country:

1st in Europe in ammonia production;
Europe's 2nd’s and the world’s 4th largest natural gas pipeline system;
3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants;
3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km);
3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment;
3rd largest iron exporter in the world
4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world;
4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers;
4th place in the world in clay exports
4th place in the world in titanium exports
8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates;
9th place in the world in exports of defence industry products;
10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons).

Ukraine matters. That is why its independence is important to the rest of the world

You don't get it. Putin and the Russians cannot and will not wait for the consequences of a NATO backed Ukraine before advancing to protect the Russian Federation. If they do, it would not be conventional warfare, it would either amount to a full surrender by the Russians or Nuclear War with the West. Surrendering is not an option, Nuclear War is suicidal for both the West and the Russians.

The only option is what the Russians are doing now and no NATO alliance is foolish enough to dare interfer with troops.
What consequence?

How can NATO be created to resist German aggression in 1949 when Germany was already defeated in 1945?
Why not use Google to cure your ignorance on NATO and it's formation.

What is the founding principle of NATO?

Which Russian aggression made Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic join NATO in 1999 less that 10 years after the Soviet Union and Therefore Warsaw pact broke up?

Which security situation made Eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia join NATO in 2004?

These small country offer nothing new to NATO capabilities except providing a base close to Russia.

Russia feels being chocked by the U.S. and that's why it's started to react more and more aggressively.

Imagine someone who said NATO was formed created to resist aggression against Germany accusing someone of cluelessness, is that ironic?

Babinski:

Is it the same news article you read? How is NATO or Ukraine the agressor playing victim?

Ukrainians decided to remove a Pro-Russian President in 2014 which angered Putin because his puppet had been removed. Putin then found excuse to annex Crimea, starting the Crimean War and thereafter sponsoring and arming separatists in Eastern Ukraine, leaving thousands of Ukrainians dead from his actions.

The Russian problem apparently makes joining NATO and the EU attractive to Ukraine and Putin's response is to invade Ukraine and you now say NATO are the aggressors?

When your neighbour is strategic to your safety what you do is treat him nice and be good to him. Not that you want to manipulate and threaten him to the point of fighting him. You think that would in the long run help your situation? Putin really made a big mistake that would unfold in times to come.

The 2014 removal of pro Russian President was not the reason Ukraine wanted to join NATO. Ukraine and Georgia had been aspiring to join NATO since NATO invited then at the 2008 Bucharest summit.
NATO read out a communique inviting Georgia and Ukraine;

Bucharest Summit Declaration
Issued by the Heads of State and Government participating in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Bucharest on 3 April 2008

23. NATO welcomes Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO. Both nations have made valuable contributions to Alliance operations. We welcome the democratic reforms in Ukraine and Georgia and look forward to free and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia in May. MAP is the next step for Ukraine and Georgia on their direct way to membership. Today we make clear that we support these countries’ applications for MAP. Therefore we will now begin a period of intensive engagement with both at a high political level to address the questions still outstanding pertaining to their MAP applications. We have asked Foreign Ministers to make a first assessment of progress at their December 2008 meeting. Foreign Ministers have the authority to decide on the MAP applications of Ukraine and Georgia.

We are talking about the balance of international geopolitics and power game here and not some romance novel chit-chat...

The best form of defence is attack...Russian action is bad but practically speaking it is pre-emptive to reassert herself in the scheme of things.
