Good innovation but I hope it will be adequately maintained

The deplorable state of Lagos roads, coupled with traffic, is more than enough to wreck those cars within 6 months.

UBER and BOLT drivers can testify

You made vital points. And I have been saying it that over population, illiteracy, bad leadership, and poverty are the issues. Even we decided to tackle it, that's a long term project. Individuals will manage and maintain their vehicles. Those vehicles are for acquisition after the drivers fulfill their obligations. So, its left for drivers to make sure they understand the contract.

Google map is there. It is not byforce to drive through heavy traffic. Park your car when there is heavy traffic. Do not go to where the road is bad. If you go to a new place and the road is bad, take note and never go there again. But some destroyers will even over speed and enter potholes like "James Bond". They will keep "flying" the cars. And even drag roads with those yellow public buses. Lol.

If you keep complaining about everything, I dont know how you will survive in this Nigeria. For goodness sake, the cars are new. Which one is you hope the cars will be maintained well? Na Sanwo Olu go maintain am for dem again?

Instead, you should advise drivers to act responsibly. Anyone who messes up has the contract to axe him out of the scheme. Soon, you will hear many stu.pid drivers complaining...those are the loser and spoilers. There is nothing you can give those kind and they will be succesful. But Lagos State won't take it lightly with them. Drivers will pay for their stu.pidity and fo.olishness. Simple.

Asabe4:
My concern too...It should be way more affordable and safer if properly managed.
Hmmmm... this mentality of more affordable. Those drivers are paying back for the cars ooooo. It is not free. And I support it. If it is free, within 3 month, 80% of the cars will be gone. Many will start removing parts from it and sell. Do you not know Nigerians are demons? So, it is a competition with Bolt and Uber.

Nigerians should start thinking about leaving our subsidy from everything. Let market dictate the price. That it is from Lagos should not make it cheaper. Let market determine the price. If Lagos decides to enter with cheaper pricing system, very good. But it doesnt solely depends on them...the drivers are the first. You cant say they should be suffering and making loss cos the riders want it cheap since it is a State government scheme.

Make una let us leave the mentality of anything from government should be cheap ooooo. Subsidy wey our papa and mama dey collect na the things dey affect us now. And we too wan load up debts for our children. Subsidy na debt oooo. Govt slashing this and that...na debt.

But I like the last part of your comment... "if well mananged"... the scheme itself is what I am talking about and not the cars. The software, the business itself. Mind you...Uber didn't acquire any car. Also, Bolt didn't. But Lagos state did. That's the difference.

Safety is gone beyond just the state govt. Well, I pray we overcome it fast. 80% of the problem is within individuals. If kidnapping can occur in busses, then, it is finished. The only thing God csn do is to improve on their system. But the kind of humans Nigerians are...hmmm...the kind of Hushpuppi, Invictus Obi, etc.. hmmm. Even they beat the US.

Since 1880 something, London people quickly realised that, "E be like say this London dey very popular O. Make we do underground train fast-fast to aid with traffic congestion". A good 140+ years ago!
Till today, every body is enjoying that underground train system.
We are still buying MORE cars to add to the road.
and Eko bridge has burnt now.
Where will all these cars pass?

You cannot solve mass transportation in an already congested and overpopulated city like Lagos by sharing "uber taxis."

What do these silly politicians see when they travel abroad?

Don't they see an urban bus and ticketing system?

Don't they see dependable overhead and underground train systems?

Don't they see ferries and inland waterways transportation?

Are you going to convey all of Lagos in those cars? Adding even more traffic to an already congested city? If anything, a forward thinking government would be thinking of ways to get more cars off the roads of Lagos than more cars on it.

Apart from the fact that the money for most of those cars will never be recouped, this ride taxi scheme is a white elephant project that was established to enrich a few government officials by way of bogus contracts and free cars.

Ori re wam be!! Meaning ur head is there. U just spoke the bitter truth. The solution is not to add more cars on the already congested roads, but to use other means like ferries, trains and encourage cheaper flights for inter city transportation.
U know in the quest to make alot of money, our politicians play blind Bartimus to the problems and solutions of the society at large.

UPDATE: Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu today officially launched the 1000 @gacmotorcig GS3 and GA4 Sport Utility Lagos Rides Vehicles with the @LagosRide Taxi Scheme.

This is in fulfillment of Mr. Governor’s announcement in March 2021, at the unveiling of the new e-hailing taxi scheme to complement the multi-modal transport network being developed in Lagos State.

An installation of security embedded dashboard cameras in each car for real-time activities monitoring with panic button connected to a control command centre that can be used by either parties inside the car in case of assault or emergency.

#LagosRide is here … Download the App Now …

As at March 22, 2022:

- 5,706 drivers download on the “Drivers App Download”

- 1,786 applications already submitted by drivers

- Registration and Enrolment Fee already accepted from 359 drivers with others awaiting screening.

The process that each operator will go through for the safety and security of life  and effective operations include:
I. Verification of LASDRI ID (where available, if not Lagos Ride as partner facilitates procurement of one with LASDRI)

II. Medical history check
III. Security check
IV. Verification of LASSRA (where available, if not Lagos Ride as partner facilitates procurement of one with LASSRA)
V. NIN verification
VI. Driver’s license verification
The money used in purchasing these vehicles would have been used to build alternate routes to decongest traffic in Lagos. At least the 4th mainland bridge.
Typical Blackman mentality

Exactly!

If all those money used to fund this programme were judiciously used to repair the intra-road network without those corrupt project commission, it would have been a better priority. What's the essence of destroying these fine cars on our non deplorable roads and spending more on vehicle maintenance and repairs?

Yet, all things being equal, this programme is a good one.

This is not vision. Lagos roads are already chocked and one of the State Government's vision should be how to reduce the cars on the road with a metro or mass transit system.

Furthermore, having drivers purchase a N9million car to repay N12million in 4 years isn't empowerment. If you give them soft loans of N 9 million for viable business, how many of them will do Taxi Hailing? Even for those who will do Taxi Hailing, how many will choose to buy a N9 million brand new car for the purpose?

Now they will create competition for average Joes trying to make ends meet in the Uber or Taxify business with Tokunbo cars because if they charge around the same, people would prefer to ride the brand new cars. Unfortunately, the brand new cars won't last and the scheme would be unsustainable. The end game result is that everyone loses except those who enjoyed riding in the cars!
