Simply put, my impression so far is that most men here want a submissive wife. I just read a post about a man going back to his village and marrying a woman not really exposed to social media, smart technology, etc. How do men really feel about marrying foreign women who may come from countries where they may be more outspoken and independent? Please forgive my ignorance. I mean no offence and ask out of curiosity to learn the general attitude.

Actually chimas most African men you see going back to their village to pick a wife do that cos of their inferiority complex..they want a woman they can easily control and coerce..the always independent one who will eventually become a full housewife... undecided

On the other hand..most African men who marry foreigners don't actually care about exposure or not.. the main thing that matter to them is what they stand to get from the said lady..only few actually marry for love..

Hence, young girls in villages are not human, should be denied their rights as women, and have no business getting married to successful educated men from the cities in Nigeria or developed countries.

I don't believe it's fair to blame the woman from the village. She is human, and she is just living in a different society. If you are agreeing with the other response about the inferiority complex, who instilled that in her? Her society... She can't be blamed for what is taught to be expected. You make it sound like she has nothing to offer a city man.

Foreign women getting married to Nigerian men are very interested and willing to abide by the Nigerian culture of submissiveness.

You see white women learning how to cook Nigerian meals, learning the man’s local dialect, kneeling to greet him and his family members etc.

There’s nothing wrong with someone being outspoken or independent, you can be both and still acknowledge that your husband is the head of your family, if not for anything by virtue of his age, as most Nigerian men marry ladies younger than them. Any lady who knows this can’t be too liberal for a Nigerian man.

Not in agreement.

The individual I responded to has the assumption; village girls have no value. Hence, the conclusion that men troop the villages to pick girls, because "men" have low self-esteem. Women have this belief that education, bone-straight hair, augmented breasts, and exaggerated facial features using make-up attract men. However, we all know this as marketing hype.

Men go to the villages because "what you see is what you get" with most village girls. Men experience low rates of buyers remorse with village girls.

It is not about submissiveness only, some men avoid drama.

By the way, not everyone goes to the village to get a wife, the proportion you mentioned, which go to the village have a specific mentality.

Just as men have preferences about a woman's body, some men also prefer simple characters instead of drama queens who cannot reason beyond materialism.
