Right on that

So... Visited the farm a while back and saw that i have two or three problems.

1. There's a fungal infection making brown rings on the leaves which could affect the output in the long run.

2. There are insects eating up the leaves which could have same effect as above.

3. I'm seeing hooves of some small animals on the soil, hopefully,it's not an even bigger problem
Re: My Sac Yam Diary by orogodoganyin(m): 8:15am On Jun 10, 2022
Possible solutions for the above problems could be...

1. For the first problem, nothing I can really do about it for now...
It's as a result of me not treating the setts I used for planting.

2. I got a pesticide and sprayed the farm.

3. I'm on the look out for now

Then I applied some fertilizer yesterday too... Just bits around the sac so it doesn't kill the plant...

After about 2 or 3 weeks again, I'll repeat the operation...

Just little fertilizer, about 8 beads around the sac without touching the plant.

inspirational.
me think farmers should be given special status in our society. like free education for their kids to university level, tax concession and right of way.

my suggestions o, make nobody fry me

Nice work sir,but why haven't you done stacking for the yams yet? have you gotten solution to the problem of the fungi eating it up? I planted my yam same period using the same process you outlined before,we are not experiencing this issue.

The solution is apparently costly so I'm just leaving it be.

The fungi infection came from the yam setts I used. They were already infected so i guess it carried on to the plant eventually. They should've been treated before planting

The insecticide actually did a good job on the insects but it also affected the plants. Maybe the concentration was high...
But then new shoots and leaves came out and it's all good now.
I've applied a second doze of fertilizer and a third is due already.
Don't forget I've been applying in bits n not the usual amount.

The insects are back though. But I don't intend applying insecticides for now.
There are insects and molluscs.

I will harvest in Nov by God's grace... I've been away from the farm a while
Re: My Sac Yam Diary by orogodoganyin(m): 2:01pm On Nov 13, 2022
So I harvested today... Harvest wasn't so good and I think I know why.
1. The soil I planted with, didn't support Potato planted by someone else the previous season
2. My staking wasn't so good
3. fertilizer application wasn't good too
4. No seed treatment before planting
5. Negligence on my part during the course of the season
