Mourinho's hype was actually worth it as he won trophies but the board was not patient with him and allowed the same useless players to tune him out! If the board were patient with Mourinho, the club would have been far ahead. Mourinho builds very good squads of players even after he has left. Just look at Modric, Kroos, and Benzema at Real Madrid.

But if we are to use the "below average" tag, Alexis Sanchez wasn't a below average player at arsenal but on getting to man united, he became worse than eba. Pogba is also an amazing player in terms of strength, talent and technique. For some seasons now, what is he doing for man united? So it's obvious that there's something about that club that makes good players become liabilities. Ronaldo is gradually getting there. If we take these same players and put them in d hands of a disciplined coach like d names u mentioned, I bet u they will sit up. You will see Maguire fight for d jersey. Phil Jones was an amazing player in his prime. But why is d club still paying him 75k a week for doing nothing? Why is d club still paying mata 150k a week for doing nothing? In such an environment, the players will be relaxed because no one is pushing them. Looking back at the era of sir Alex, am not sure players could be allowed this freedom that these present players are enjoying

Of course u right about fees. To set d players straight, it's d job of d coach. If the coach doesn't set strict standards for performance, things will get out hand even with d best of players in d squad. I believe that in many cases, issues of players wages are discussed with coaches before improved contracts are given to players. The man united was one where Woodward & glazers were just throwing money at players without the coaches input
