Deborah Samuel: Gov. Sule begs CAN not to hold protest in Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa State has appealed to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the State not to join the planned nationwide peaceful protest over the murder of Deborah Samuel, a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State.

Speaking during a security meeting held in Lafia, the State capital, Governor Sule explained that the appeal was due to the fragile nature of the State.

According to Governor Sule, “I will like to appeal to our leaders, to ensure that we don’t join in this peaceful protest, especially because of the fragile nature of our State.

“This is similar to what we have done also when doctors, teachers, ASUU, all in the past wanted to go on strike but we appealed to these bodies not to join.”

He added that the nature of the State was peculiar and different from other States, saying that “sometimes, peaceful people, very good people would begin to protest in one way but lose control, because some hoodlums will come in and hijack the protest.”

DAILY POST recalls that a female student, Deborah Samuel was gruesomely murdered on Thursday by alleged Muslim students of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto for alleged blasphemy.

The National leadership of CAN had called on Christians in the country to hold peaceful nationwide protest on 22nd May, 2022, against the killing of the female student.

Provide security for the peaceful protesters!!!

Nigerians’ rights to protest are safeguarded under sections 38, 39, 40 and 41 of the Constitution. It is a fundamental human right of the people to voice out their displeasures, disappointments and frustrations.

Principle 2 of the Resolution on Promotion and Protection of Human Right in the context of Protest imposes that government should not prevent, hinder or restrict the right to protest; States should protect the right to protest and should undertake reasonable steps to protect protesters by adopting measures necessary to prevent violations by third parties..

Maybe if Governor Sule condemns the Killing of Deborah, CAN might just have a rethink.

Still waiting for the first Northern Governor who will condemn the Killing.

This country is just crazy and I do not understand why a sitting governor would be begging people not to exercise their fundamental rights. undecided

Every Muslim supported the killing of Deborah Samuel. I have said this over and over, Now I see why NK wants Nigeria to divide. I am from south south and I support the division of Nigeria. Nigeria should be divided with immediate effect and let everyone go their separate ways. It is Plain stupidity joining people of different backgrounds, cultures, traditions and religions together as one. The Muslims deserve to live in the jungle with wild animals and beasts.

Too late . When people serve a dead god involuntarily they will desire to fight and kill for him but those that serve a living God will never desire to fight or kill for him physically...yesterday I saw some aboki's hawking thier wares in my street, and am with my friends talking about the death of Deborah but when we saw them I just laughed and said this guys don't even know what thier brothers did at sokoto... this protest should last till we get justice for Deborah...this animals that killed her most die for peace to reign and for the other fanatics that support them inwardly or outwardly may their lives be cut short like that innocent girl whose only crime was to tell her colleagues not to turn academic watapp group into a religious group..no body have the monopoly to vawuluence

They don't want a situation where those protesting against the arrest of the killers of Deborah Samuel collide with CAN protesting against the killing.

The idea of a protest is really ill-informed and lacks wisdom. Its like CAN is setting Christians up to be stoned or attacked en mass

You mean Christians should just keep quiet and be looking at them... Protest is an aspect of one's fundamental rights

Saying your mind is a fundamental right, someone used theirs and got burnt alive.

Christians need to understand the saying of Jesus where he said "be wise as serpent and harmless as a dove".
