Leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, IOOW, Professor Banji Akintoye, on Sunday, described the deadly attack allegedly unleashed against Christian Worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo-State by Gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen, leaving about 85 people dead, as a declaration of war against the Yoruba people. Responding through the Communications Secretary of IOOW, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to declare an emergency against the activities of Fulani Herdsmen in the state with immediate effect. The renowned scholar said the effontery of the Fulani Marauders needs to be frankly and courageously confronted so as to prove to their sponsors that the Yoruba people can never be intimidated or subjugated. He said: “We have stated it very expressly that the Yoruba people need to negotiate their exit from Nigeria as a matter of urgency but our Partisan Political Actors in Yoruba Land never took us serious. We warned them that there’s fire on the mountain but we were mocked because of their personal aggrandizement. “Today, we have all been encircled, most especially, in Lagos. For Herdsmen to have the effontery of bombarding a Church in Yoruba Land to kill about 85 people shows that we are now in a realistic danger. “My urgent advise to Governor Akeredolu is to pick up the gauntlet and declare an emergency against the activities of all Fulani Herdsmen in the state with immediate effect. “We have now been taken for granted. We need not pretend anymore. We must demand unanimously, an exit from Nigeria. “We the Yoruba People cannot live in the same country with characters whose idea of common citizenship in Nigeria is to brutalize, subjugate and even exterminate us. It is time to leave these characters now. All Stakeholders – the Elites, Traditional Rulers, Our Women should act now. “All the South West States, including the Yoruba Leaders in Kogi and Kwara States should equally declare an emergency against the activities of Fulani Herdsmen. This country is in a deep mess So none of our intelligence/security agencies was able to get info about this attack? Only the people in government know what is really going on. Sadly, none of the presidential aspirants/candidates is even talking about the biggest challenge facing us today, which is insecurity. One is talking about unifying the country, something he himself knows is not possible because the country was founded on forced marriage. The other person is saying he will continue from where the present one stopped. That in itself is a recipe for disaster. The other one is talking about production. Because Afenifere openly supported zoning the presidency to the southeast region they are now the only sensible Yorubas? Even then, you continue to denigrate other Yorubas for reasons best known to you. I guess this is your wisdom for getting more support. You hold a whole tribe responsible for individual partnerships and opinions but excuse your own tribe who did and are still trying to do same? Manage your affairs and leave the Yorubas to manage theirs. Remember the Yorubas managed nadeco against the military and God gave them victory. And Yes, the Yorubas appear more organized when it comes to social justice. They do not wait for anybody to fight their battles, hence their instant condemnation of the attacks individually and collectively. No I don’t get it. You are expending too much energy on a people (Yorubas) who are busy charting their own course. This they do without blaming Igbos for Nnamdi Azikiwe vehemently refusing a referendum clause in the constitution pre-independence, or for General Aguiyi Ironsi supplanting the regional system of government with decree 34 of 1966 birthing the current unitary system. The 2 most significant errors in the history of Nigeria and we are still on the matter. The Yorubas have not made the Igbo tribe that supposedly caused these major issues (if we are to follow your established convention of blaming tribes), which set the Southwest region back, their focus. So the advise is that you and yours should equally focus on your problems, and quit focusing on what the Yorubas are doing or not doing. This will be more efficient for all parties affected. After this outrage, people will forget it, just like they have forgotten Deborah. That's how f00lish Christians and southerners in this country are. They can be likened to a bush fowl in a jungle. Snake swallows one of its child today, it comes out and makes noise for a few hours and then keeps quiet... without doing anything. Not even moving away from the danger. Tomorrow and the day after, the cycle repeats itself. Until one day, the bush fowl itself is swallowed. Forget about elections and start fighting for secession instead. |
