Can you complete the response.
But the F1 visa requires you to demonstrate that you will be returning back to your home country.

Sorry… modified my original comment. Having huge loans in USD and coming back to Nigeria is not realistic. Maybe don’t emphasize coming back to Nigeria so strongly in the interview. Unless you convince them that you’ll be employed at a multinational that pays in USD

The VO already knows you’re not planning to come back because how will you pay those loans living in Nigeria earning Naira?

Hello guys

I need your guide. I got admitted for fall with no funding deficit of about 27k. Will not having funding be a major factor for denial?

Secondly, can I be able to secure funding if I defer my admission to spring since I’m yet to be issued a date for fall?

If the amount on your bank statement is way above that, I don't think it will be.Just prove your home ties(intention to return).

Offering scholarship to students with a deffered admission is at the discretion of the school/ scholarship awarding body.Check in with the school.

Kingjonez your responses are all good.I don't know why the vo should deny you.But I still feel the denial is as a result of funding, tho yous SOA is good enough to cover the deficit.Maybe the vo is concerned about your sources of funding: RA, personal savings, your father who is a prof and a civil servant will foot the remaining bill if your RA and personal savings isn't enough to cover your expenses and you didn't mention if he has a major business establishment, did you?

Chief, it's like you're Mixing my transcript with that of Jones. Lol.

Well, as for the funding I told the VO that apart from my RA, my dad will be covering the funding. I was telling her what my dad does before she cut me short. I was yet to mention what he earns yearly and his other businesses. Could that have been the issue?

Because the blue slip given to me was 214b. And when I researched, it was talking about lack of home ties. All questions she asked me, I always emphasized I was coming back to Nigeria to implement what I had studied.

(4)Also, don't forget to add spices to your home tiesgrin Add kpomo, egusi and some vegetablegrin

F1 VISA INTERVIEW PROCESS

The VO is only interested in 3 things.

Question 1. You are really going there to study, and you are qualified to do so.
Question 2. You will return after your academic program.
Question 3. You can afford the program.
*all questions asked are often linked to the three things outlined above.

*Likely Questions*
1.Why did you choose X university? - This answers question 1.
Keep your answer short and impactful, say something specific about the university (link it to yourself) and be honest. They can also ask this question in the form of "Why are you studying in the US?”.
*Note*: They can also ask specific questions about your school or city, especially if you give the impression that you are familiar with them.

2. How many universities did you apply to? - Be honest here, it also helps to answer question 1. You might also use the answer to this to answer the “Why did you choose X university?” question by saying why you chose X school over the other option(s).

3. Who is sponsoring you? - This answers question 3.
Follow up questions might follow, they will address:
a. Your relationship to the sponsor.
b. Their financial capability (This is often asked in the form of "what does your sponsor do?"wink.
c. The sponsor’s willingness to sponsor you .
Give them any documents requested, you can make your sponsor write a letter to the embassy and take it along.

4. How many siblings do you have? - It answers question 3.
If you have siblings (or if your sponsor has kids), they will consider how much it will take to take care of them while they are evaluating the financial documents. A follow-up question can be "what do your siblings do?".
This can also be a form of home-tie and it answers question 2.

5. Do you have any relatives in the US? - This is for Question 2.
Be truthful! They are likely to have this information in their records. People with close relatives in the US are somewhat likely to stay behind.
However, this is not a criteria and they'll ask something else to investigate further.

6. Why don't you do this course in your country? - This answers number 1 and 2 simultaneously. Coming up with an honest and convincing answer to this should not be hard.

7. What will you do after you complete your program? - This answers question 2.
The VO wants to know if the purpose of your visit is to stay back in the US or study temporarily.
You can also propose how you can use what you learn to benefit yourself (or the society) in Nigeria.
Remember! you are applying for a temporary non-immigrant visa; not a work or "live in America" visa. Do not suggest to the VO that you plan to stay back, it is not a good look.

* The VO might also try to gist with you and ask for other details. Gist back and smile with them, be comfortable, tell a joke (if you can) and flow well.

The interview moves very fast, and it is a short process. No shaking!
Good luck!

I don't know if it's compulsory or not.But I "believe" it's part/one of the documents that you can take along with you to the interview.

I would advise you to take it along since it doesn't mar your chances of getting approved.

This was exactly how it went...

Visa Denied
Lagos
17th August 2022
MPH
Black American lady
COA-46k
RA-21k
Deficit-25k

VO: Why this School and course?

Me. Public Health basically talks about preventive medicine. It's easier to prevent illnesses than treat. As a medical doctor, I have managed cases where patients presented with complications and endstages of diseases which could easily be prevented. Diseases like hypertension, diabetes, Cancers could be prevented leading to less morbidty and mortality. Also, Nigeria has been plaqued with atleast 5 emerging and reemerging Infectious diseases like Ebola, Lassa.. with this degree, I'll be equipped with the skills and knowledge inwhich I'll use to mitigate the problems of public health in Nigeria especially when it comes to chronic diseases and infectious diseases.

I choose Charlotte because I'll be opportuned to work with and be mentored under a renowned professor of Public health, Prof... who's research interest is purely on chronic diseases and Infectious diseases and it's tandem with my line of interest.

VO: Who's covering your deficit?

Me: apart from my research assistantship which covers my welfare and part tuition, my dad Prof... who's a Prof of business management, university of ... for 25 years and also a public servant for over 35years... (cuts me short)..

VO: I'm sorry...

Good morning Everyone. I was denied in Abuja on Monday. Was a very hard pill to swallow because I didn't really know what went wrong. Please see my transcript.

First Attempt
Course: MSc Computer and Information Sciences
School: New Mexico Highlands University
COA: $24k
No funding.

V.O: I see you are going to NMHU for your Masters in Computer and Information Sciences.
Me: Yes Ma
V.O: Who is funding your studies?
Me: My stepdad, Mr Bleep will be shouldering the responsibility.
V.O: What does he do?
Me: He's into large scale agriculture and a top supplier of livestock and poultry products to restaurants and supermarkets in the Southwestern part of the country. He's also (she cuts me short)
V.O: What's your plan after studies?
Me: I'll be returning back to my present place of work to assume a senior role as a senior I.T specialist but my long term plan is to set up my own I.T consultation firm.
V.O: Is this the only school you applied to?
Me: No, I also applied to the University of Alabama and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
V.O: Did they all give you admission?
Me: No, I was rejected by the University of Alabama.

Typed for a short while and passed me the green paper and whatever statement followed wasn't of any interest to me. She wasn't really looking at me throughout the interview. She was on her mouse so I'm sure she was going through my DS 160 which I filled well enough and stated my job roles clearly. I just don't know what went wrong. I need opinions from people for my next trial.

VO- Where do you work?
Me- I work at XYZ company in Lagos as a network Engineer where I'm responsible for........ (states all his duties)

VO- why this course ?
ME- with the rigorous course outline, this course will expose me to different types of hacking and equip me with both practical and theoretical knowledge of cybersecurity in general and also will serve as a gateway for me to become a cybersecurity analyst

VO- Whats your post-study plan?
Me- I will be coming back to my present company Bleep to take the role of a cybersecurity analyst where I will be responsible for preventing company Network traffic...........

VO -Who is your sponsor?
Me- Aside from the - 20% merit scholarship I had as stated on the i20, my dad will be paying for the deficit. He is the owner of XYZ company in Lagos. A company that's into producing XYZ product in Lagos and Ogun with an annual income of 60mil and a staff strength of 50 and has been in existence for over 20 years in addition to this he also has 6 landed properties around Ikeja in Lagos with an annual income of 30 million. Aside from that I also will be contributing from my personal saving of 4years as a network engineer.

Vo:are you married?
Me: yes and I have a child

Vo: paused and looked up ( like a shock.....)
Me: looked into her eyes too and continue talking

Vo: are they going with you now? ( keeps typing)
Me: no. My wife , my wife works as a lecturer in xyz university and she's not due for a leave now. But we agree she would come for visitation while I also visit during vacation

Vo:types for a while and issued blue paper.

Your wife and child were supposed to be your home ties. I believe the VO was ready to grant your visa before you indicated they (your family) were coming on vacation.  That sounds like migration to them. Your wife and child were supposed to be your home ties.

I might be wrong**

Hard to tell - as quality of school is always a big determination and you don't list the school.

Hacking was probably the wrong word to use as the Consular Officer is likely to see that as a fraud indicator.

I disagree with the notion that your family might visit you was the turn of the event.
