He leased the land. In Nigeria every land is leased for 99years as per the Land Use Act. The State government is the trustee of all land in their domain. And the state government has right to even revoke the C of O to the land housing his church.

Beside there is what is called public good in governance lexicon. The said demolition was done for public good to restore Onitsha to it's lost glory. And the truth is not every part of his church was demolish. Is just the part that projected and blocked the water path that was demolished.
