Well, it is a trifle out of place to use the word 'afraid' because like someone rightly pointed out, there's way too many means of communicating these days. . . . .back in the day, best a dude could do was write a note or letter, or send someone to deliver a message; else man up and face the dame. But these days, not so. . . .thats why we see less and less direct, physical social interaction initially between people.

Fear, lack of confidence or low esteem ~ all these cannot all together be ruled out but these days they constitute a relatively small share of why face to face 'toasting' is nearing extiction.

I am talking abt people I know in real life. Guys I talk with, party with, socialised with etc etc. They add me on facebook because they already know me. Instead they find an alternative way of asking me out.

The truth is that the guy might actually like you but he knows that you two are too close for somethinng like that to happen but he still wants to take his chances so instead of risking it in person he uses another medium where he can always say it was a joke

What do we do on facebook?
We chat with friends, families, old colleagues, toastees etc. And when we chat; we talk about football, sunday service, back in the dayz at school, future plans, why I like her, where i like to shop, where and what i like to eat and how much I would like to take her there, to try this Italian seafood.

Its no big deal at all asking a girl out by any means of communication they are both used to. although sending a friend is way too immature.

but please; if a guy proposes marriage to you on facebook, tell him SHEGE BANZA!!!!!!!!!!

This is prominent amongst today's men, the advent of social media has encouraged a gradual drift from face to face socialization to a faceless one, thus its been replicated in all human endeavors including asking a girl out, some guys also lack courage and are scared of a negative response from the lady. some want to be sure the lady could also be interested in them.
