aspabay: At first glance, the suggestions seem solid but on consideration, I become a little sceptical. I don't know a lot of economics but I know these; 1. The crux of the matter is that they are suggesting every Nigerian should make sacrifices towards rescuing the economy. However, the first set of questions to be answered are how did we get here and if rescued, how do we sustain the economy in better stead? If all the elements that got us here are still with us, is it not a defeated cause from outset? Please, I don't buy the idea that Jonathan or 16 year rule of the PDP got us here. Obasanjo and Yar'adua did well with economy. Aside that, 8 years is enough to make a telling impact. 2. What are the effects of these policies on the common man that drives the economy? The middle and the upper income earners can easily make adjustments but can the vast majority of the low income earners do the same? 3. How many Nigerians would repose confidence in a wasteful government and readily make sacrifices? With the Nigerian government giving over 1billion to Niger Republic, Afghanistan and building unnecessary rail to Maradi in Niger, I'm not sure we are broke enough. 4. It's easier to talk about abolishing the State PIT in favour of the Federal PIT, but with Wike's outburst, we now think the unproductive northern states cannot be sharing of the revenues generated by the productive southern states. Is this not a recipe for future chaos? 5. Isn't it a knee-jerk reaction to be ringing so many changes all at once without fixing the security problems of Nigeria? If the citizens can go about their businesses without fear, then the economy would benefit from higher GDP and internally generated monies as against borrowing, even if borrowing is essential and running a deficit budget is not entirely a bad thing in macroeconomics. 6. If the CBN is so bereft of ideas and has lost focus of its primary functions under the current leadership, why is the CBN governor still retained while we paper the crack at the expense of the poor masses? Who gave the CBN the order to keep printing money to the detriment of the economy? 7. Nothing has changed for the common man except the state of affairs getting worse. These policies would compound the problems in folds. Are we sure these people are suggesting these solutions for the benefit of the populace or do they just want to ensure they can continue to fund their lavish lifestyles from the government coffers? 8. Where is the sense in giving the poorest of poor some money a few months back only to turn around and tax them blind afterwards? They must be geniuses that have found a way of investing the handouts to yield enough dividends to be taxed in this terrible economy. 9. Let these people start with cutting expenses by reviewing their emoluments and entitlements to reflect the realities on the ground. They should also focus on taxing the rich, encouraging foreign investments, blocking wastages e.g. the Father Christmas posture of Buhari and stopping their lavishness like their children schooling abroad, running abroad for medical care, excesses of their family members e.g. Yusuf Buhari motorbike example, Zahra Buhari photography expenditure etc. When we see their sacrifices and attendant improvement to the economy, we all will be willing and ready to do likewise. |

aspabay:You read it well Those governors are jokers 30-50% of their recommendations is to Increase tax Instead of them to cut cost of governance 2. Instead of outright privatisation which they and their cronies will benefit from, it should be PPP with government having a higher stake selling about 30-49% stake to private companies and individuals Before removing the subsidies the refineries must be working optimally or they get new ones |

aspabay: Why should VAT be centralized when some states opposed the consumption of certain items within their jurisdictions.... Vat is levied on consumption and services within states .... Every state should go and create demand within I still saw subsidy that Buhari made a political capital of... Why should you now deny any person the same advantage What you sow you reap 1 Like |

HakiimAlvista:Read points 32 and 33 and the addendum. In addition, fixing the naira at N418 and refusing to float the naira, leading to unnecessary black market rates. We all know the actual rates, so why would you sell at an unreal rate? This only does one thing, create room for laundering and profiteering. 1 Like |
