pleep:

think less North Korea and more China or Cuba.

Do you know of a Pan- Africanist named Thomas Sankara? he was a socialist, that is the type of socialism i'm talking about. When we adopt socialism we will need to shape it to fit our needs, what we will end up with will be in essence pan-africanism.

Do you know a country never sees meaningfull political change until the size of the middle class supercedes the size of the poor? and example of this is the middle east.

Our government will not become good until we get a middle class, and to achieve that we need to change our economic system.

Although your overarching concern is perfectly understood, I still feel you have not given sufficient consideration to the alternative economic system you propose.
Do you really think Sankara, an unrepentant Marxist till the very end, would have concerned himself with building a sizeable middle class?

will someone please grab a hold of Chicken Little?

The sky's not gonna fall.

The worst that will happen is that nigerians will finally gather the mental impetus to upturn the system and hold people responsible.

We are already approaching that precipice anyway.

But that still does not justify your new-found love for socialism. I detest any system that takes away personal choice to satisfy an idealistic system THAT HAS NEVER WORKED.

Socialism need not take away one's personal choice.

Without the benefit of Ujaama during Nyerere's reign in Tanzania, chances are that fine country (and her 120-odd tribes) will also be riddled with ethnic strife and corruption on the scale we currently see in Nigeria.

Are you saying there are no alternatives to western model of capitalism?

Is tanzania a first world economy? Has it zoomed to the top in africa in ANY indices? Is it a country to be reckoned with in any sphere of influence? So how can we say that it has worked for them?

They still suffer the very same issues we have. Google it. I am sure you will find the same miasma of hate, despair and social malaise that affects ALL african countries to varying degrees.

They have been quoting ujamaa for years and years. What has come out of it?

But your approach to this issue is rather disingenuous, don't you think?

What factors have circumscribed  Tanzania's rapid development till date?
You think a 2 min search on google would provide all the insight I need? grin

What accounts for much of the wealth you see in advanced capitalist countries?
Would another 2 min search on google progress my inquiry in this regard?
