@ xynerise xynerise: Shallow minded nairalander! If our so-called meteorologist prepare the Nigeria citizens and keep records of those storms, floods and natural disasters in Nigeria, what name would they have given the flood that killed many, wasted/destroyed properties in Lagos last month? or the flood that just happened in Ibadan? or those tropical storms in the Northern and Eastern part of Nigeria that claimed houses/roofs without property insurance for any meaningful compensation? Fashola and his team make a mockery of GEJ because he didnt respond switfly to Lagos flood last month - Poor Preparedness, Poor Response and Painful recovery process. Every nation has their own natural disaster, i live in Nigeria but your comment is very shallow and i think you need to be told that such comments is unwarranted. Chikena! |

Re: Photos: Hurricane Irene by gijaney: 9:26am On Aug 29, 2011 |
hurricanes/tropical storms and typhons are the only things named (other natural disasters arnt) and the names alternate boy girl boy girl. (is the a is a girl, ba a boy then next year a will be a boy and b will be a girl). names are never used twice and not every letter is used. on one instance they had run out of names and had to restart at a again. practice started in 1953. used to identify storms. multiple storms can occure at the same time or hit the same region, names make it easier to distinquish them |

these storms are named after the scientist or person who first dictated it. If its a lady it bears her first name, be it a guy same goes. these storms are named after the scientist or person who first dictated it. If its a lady it bears her first name, be it a guy same goes. |

Re: Photos: Hurricane Irene by Nobody: 3:29pm On Aug 29, 2011 |
hurricanes are named after what part of the ocean they are coming from like Atlantic ocean, Pacific ocean etc. hurricanes coming from these ocean already have existing names (more dan 30 each) to be given to them as they unfold.its just funny that the very big ones we hear abt were incidentally in line for female names. so the next one we might not hear about cuz its small might be hurricane jose which we mit not hear abt |

Who says we don't have hurricanes in Nigeria? We have them enough: 1. Hurricane Boko Haram 2. Hurricane Kidnappers 3. Hurricane PHCN 4. Hurricane PDP 5. Hurricane Jos Crisis Just to name a few. On a more serious note we thank God the Hurricane was broken into only a tropical storm,it could have been worse. My heart goes to those who lost loved ones and properties. |
