João de Deus is sentenced to more than 109 years in prison for sexual crimes.


The medium João de Deus was convicted on Wednesday (7) in three cases that, in all, add up to more than 109 years and 11 months in prison for sexual crimes in Goiás. In addition, he must indemnify the victims in amounts of up to R$ 100,000 for moral damages.



Currently, João is under house arrest, which was determined by the Court of Justice of the State of Goiás (TJ-GO). After Judge Marcos Boechat handed down the sentence, lawyer Anderson Van Gualberto, who represents the medium, has already informed that he must appeal the decision, “since (the documents) disregarded relevant aspects of the arguments presented by the defense, such as non-compliance with the deadline six-month statute of limitations for the representation of the victim”.


The lawyer also pointed out that there was “weakness of the prosecution's arguments” regarding the vulnerable condition of the alleged victims.


In 2021, João de Deus had already been sentenced to more than 44 years and six months in prison for sexual crimes against four women between 2009 and 2018. With these recent convictions, the medium has sentences that add up to more than 223 years and three months of imprisonment.

On December 7, 2018, some women went to the police to report that they had been sexually abused by the medium during spiritual sessions at Casa Dom Inácio de Loyola. Because of this, on the 16th of the same month, João de Deus was arrested.


He remained in the Aparecida de Goiânia Prison Complex until March 2020, when he moved to the home regime. However, on August 26, 2021, he returned to prison.



In September, TJ-GO again decreed that João return to the home regime, where he remained until then.
