The two regime changes orchestrated by the US (one in the early 2000s and the other in the early 2010s) is what led to the current situation.

Russia is not known for promoting regime changes. But even if it did, a war will still break out sooner or later. Just that this time, it will be Western Ukraine, Central, and Northern Ukraine that will try to break out of Ukraine to become an independent country.

Even the US at this point is aware that regime changes always lead to bigger problems down the road.
