I don't think presenting "non conforming" scholarly artifacts is tantamount to being stupid. I believe it depends on the origin of the painting and how she presented it. She's in the academia, so if there's a renowned painting in a reputable museum that a certain school of thought believe to be that of the prophet, it's the duty of a scholar to study it, document it and keep the record as "a painting claimed to be that of the prophet". This is regardless of whether she actually believes it herself or not. In some fields, you don't just teach your personal believes but other people's arguments too. After all, many religious people have been made to argue for and against the existence of God in philosophy classes. Our Christian teachers were forced to teach us Charles Darwin's theory of evolution even though they didn't believe it.

How can you (correctly) state that its all a matter of how the teacher presented it - and then claim she "probably" presented the information in a certain way? You don't have the facts. The word 'probably' means 'likely'. It was your use of the word 'probably' that gave an entirely different meaning to your comments. Until audio or video evidence of the lecture and slides are made available, none of us here can really say exactly how Prof Lopez presented the information.

The information in the news write up indicates though that she understood the sensitivity of the issue. It seems she made clear to her students that her lecture wanted to examine the paintings and depictions of Mohammed from ancient times - paintings and depictions that actually do exist.

I said "probably" because the school refused to extend her contract, and US schools aren't known to let religious inclinations come in the way of education. So if they went out of thier way to do it, then it's likely she presented in a certain way. This is hypothetical and it regardless whatever was reported by Sahara.
