What kind of rubbish is this??

You borrow to import what you have in abundance back home?! What you can easily refine here to cut cost.

Empty brain leaders

Wow, Nigeria we hail thee. We borrow to import fuel, subsidise it and then smuggled to neighboring countries while we suffer acute shortage here. How do we even payback the loans?

After reading this message from the finance minister, some useless people will still be contemplating to vote Tinubu, who wants to continue the legacity of this evil APC administration.

I'll rather vote for a new style of government/ leadership in Nigeria. Fools will not understand.
PO is the answer!

The logic behind this process is demonic and unbelievable.... Why not borrow all this money and fix the refineries... This way you save cost and repay the loans at ease.... Nd loot if you want to... But no...

Aint surprised that it has come to this.

Like I always like saying here...for all those subsidy mad fans....

Either we pay for petrol at the pump or we will pay it at the world bank.

What the Finance minister is saying is stating the obvious. We are paying the market price of fuel at the world bank.

But anytime I come here to say subsidy must go...somehow I am a Buhari supporter. Well, see what Buhari is ending up doing by keeping subsidy....he is paying the market price on our behalf at the World Bank.

Subsidy must go. If Obi, Atiku and TInubu are agreed on one thing, if SLS whose economics degrees are more than anything that I know has been hammering on this, if NOI who is a global economic expert is saying it...whom am i to disagree.

Remove the subsidy and let the market sell at the price...or the next government would even borrow more to pay for imports AND subsidise fuel, AND fund our entire budget.

Dangote does not run a monopoly on cement...BUA, lafarge, and at least one other player dey. You do not live in a country where you MUST buy dangote cement.

As for the refinery, remember anytime we say that subsidy must go, and you guys come and tell us that we are oppressors? Well, the fact is, because subsidy has not gone yet, no one wants to come in and invest in refinery, and sell fuel at a loss from that refinery because subsidy. Even Dangote that is building that refinery.....if he is forced to sell fuel at N180 per liter....that refinery would look like the run down NNPC refineries in ten years.

Because people wey dey borrow for projects like refineries want to see their money back. And since government insists on refining fuel above N250 and selling it at N180, there would be no profit to pay the people giving the loans back their money...so no one is going to invest in refineries...for government

Dangote took loans to build his refinery...and the people who gave him the loans gave him because they know that if he defaults, they can liquidate the collateral he used for the loans. They cannot do that with gofment.

Finally if we had removed subsidy in 1993, or even 2012, by now NNPC would have had profit to build refinery without loan taking anyway.

The collapse of the naira is a circle that runs through every facet of the society..

Before this collapse, cement was around 1500, same way when the naira rebound, it will drop again..

The refinery, federal government has a stake of 20% which gives it an influential position to regulate some of the activities..

We would have this discussion sometime again when everything start to manifest.. Just read through that headline.. Till then, I'm fully Obidient..

One question no one has asked any of these criminals. Everyday NNPC puts aside 445000 barrels of crude oil to be refined for local consumption please what has been happening to it? If that is sold what to add as subsidy of petroleum product will be minimal. No one seems to be asking question.

Realists:

Who dares the cabals dares the Devil to a one on one duel. The Government should borrow $5 Billion dollars to build a new Refinery and not borrow money to pay subsidy.

It's not rocket science, yet no one seems to notice this or they're simply ignoring the cure of fuel problem.

I don tire for Nigeria. Even the entire ports in the country except Lagos are paralyzed..

The problems are simple, we just need to generate more than our expenditure, and fixing these two problems first will put the country on that path..

Wetin I know sef,

But it's not just fuel subsidy though it's the most glaring part of the system. There's also university subsidy, electricity subsidy, forex subsidy, pilgrimage subsidy, rice subsidy, maize subsidy. The extent of the subsidy and price regulation system in Nigeria is shocking, only people don't care to look into it.

If fuel subsidy is abolished, the graft, theft and corruption will shift to another part of the system. What I'm trying to say is, the Nigerian economic system needs a complete reset. ALL subsidies and price regulation must be scrapped or Nigeria will NEVER become a developed country. That's the simple fact of the matter. The problem is systemic and cultural so I expect Nigerians will fight against ANY PRESIDENT who tries to do the needful. So the future is very predictable.

Good Luck to Nigerians.

who cares if you are obsidient or not??

It's Dangote refinary not Federal government corporation.
If the govt own 20% as you claim, then 80% to Dangote; now who has better control

Fuel will sell for 800 Soon, same way cement sells for 5000 prior to when it's been sold @1500

Very few citizens know that colonial master company Royal Dutch Shell is part of the NNPC and has offices and staffs right there in the HQ building in Abuja. They probably pay off (bribe) NASS members to not disturb the status quo system in place, and thus far have been too powerful for any FG administration to checkmate since 1960.
They keep the Naija refineries bleeped up and have so far secretly delayed the Dangote refinery project.
