Reality has hit them that they will be at the mercy of the importers who will eat up the profit margin just as it's being done in diesel, kerosene and even cooking gas now.

The argument you have used against subsidy has been used several times, and that is why it never goes.(plus it is strange that people trust the same corrupt government to maintain subsidy).

We also don't have piping systems and so forth largely because subsidy has eaten the profits that would have been used to maintain and build those things.

Also, since things are hard, would you argue for government to subsidise everyting else like food, clothes,GSM bills, and so forth (I can see the long queues).

We have to remove subsidy, or we keep it, keep on running into a deficit, and keep on taking more and more loans to cover the said defict.

Yes, because refining at home under subsidy regimes would mean that you lose money for every liter of refined PMS a domestic refinery produces. That's largely why we lost our 4 refineries.

Dangote can afford to build a refinery because he took loans to do so...which the banks were pleased to give him because he has something called collateral....sufficient enough to pay for any losses in case.

The refineries ran down because of IBB regime policy of presidential approval before maintenance can be carried out.
When did subsidy become a big issue in Nigeria? It was early to mid 2000s and the refineries were already at their lowest far before then.

I have been saying this . Nigeria does not have a functioning refinery yet this useless government is touting a privately owned refinery like it is their achievement . Dangote borrowed money to build that refinery . In DOLLARS . Once it comes on , he has an obligation FIRST to his lenders . He will surely welcome the no subsidy regime and expoloit it such that he can repay the loan faster . So sorry people , petrol will sell for no less than 300 naira .

Already in abuja fuel sells at filling stations at 195 naira . No one is talking about it . An attendant told me it sells in some places in the NORTH for 300 naira . Yet some unfortunate people will want these destroyers of lives to continue in power because of their selfish interests. God will judge you all .

I'm afraid nothing will happen. For a fact, many private cars in Nigeria and a whole lot of commercial buses and of course ALL the commercial light and heavy duty trucks use diesel. Just this 2020, diesel was sold for 230 naira but now it's being sold for 850 to 900 naira. I repeat, nothing will happen if petrol hits 800 naira, people are just exhausted and have given up on this administration.
