250k Job In Lagos Vs 200k Job In Benin by Gr8mike(m): 2:10pm On Aug 24, 2022 |
Good day my fellow Nairalanders, So I recently got a job as in IT officer in Lagos and in Benin, the one I got in Lagos(Restaurant /Fashion Store) is 250k plus pensions and HMO while the one in Benin(Hydro Farm) is 200k, no pension but there is free weekly farm produce available for staffs. I currently reside in Lagos and my house rent is on the High side but I am from Benin and getting accommodation in Benin won't be hard. With the high inflation rate, will you advise I move to Benin considering I won't be spending on food, transportation and housing is cheap. Please I need your comments. 13 Likes 1 Share |

Kindly go to Benin since it's up for consideration. With that pay u are a rich man in Benin city. With 50k out of that cash, your utility bills are likely covered and you can save as much as 40% at the end of the day. Meanwhile in Lagos, transportation can gulp 50k off the pay monthly, Accomodation can gulp a big chunk even when the house is not a match compared to what you will get in Benin with equivalent sum or less. Finally, you already know how frustrating Lagos[b] traffic can be. If you stay in Lag for 50 years, you would have spent 15 years in traffic. Lol 200 Likes 8 Shares |

mokset123: You have a point but considering house rent and transportation, one will wonder how much of the 250k you can save, I had to discover from Nepa recently has my bill was up to 15k monthly for just a 2room apartment, lawma bill is there, landlord and tenant contribution, utility bill is just crazy. 16 Likes 1 Share |

kowema: Lolzzz, my dear, you have said it all, my friend we both graduated from UNIBEN with 150k salary has a car now, from savings over the years, lives comfortably, though he always envy the Lagos lifestyle but chose comfort than luxury. I just spoke to him and he told me to grab the opportunity with both hands as I will be getting weekly foodstuffs and won't spend a dime on feeding, transportation is 200 go come from where I plan to stay. 76 Likes 3 Shares |

Carry yourself de go Benin. Omo, for the most part, lagos na busy-doing-nothing lifestyle. Many i’m-in-Lagos people, after HOUSE RENT and TRAFFIC don gulp their share of their salary, sapa takes over — so continues the monthly cycle. Except you run a profitable business(Lagos get the market for virtually anything), make no employee come sing Lagos this, eko that for my ears. Opportunities are many, opportunities are plenty, but sapa is plentier: na under-100k jobs many pass. Baba, obey the calls of the ancient city. Owiepa, Godspeed! 58 Likes 4 Shares

Leave Lagos. It's greener in other states. You have answered your own question yourself. Na accommodation, transportation and utility bill go take chunk of your salary, you will not have savings. Leave Lagos. I say leave Lagos. You did not hear me? Leave Lagos. 19 Likes |

Go for the Benin job and come back here to thank me. Be like Lagos sufferhead and stress never tire you. Na when old age reach you go Sabi wetin backlog of stress mean. The only condition I'd advise you go for Lagos option is if the pay is very good to afford you a healthy and comfortable lifestyle. If you're running a program or have set goals for yourself. If not, RUN! 12 Likes |

Omo Lagos life is too fast for my liking. I can't stay there. How I go day jump enter moving bus...Omo, I see people chasing bus and jumping inside. For Benin Bus day even reverse come meet you... With 300-400k you don get good two bedroom apartments for new areas in Benin. If it's the old parts you want to stay in Benin, you can get cheap houses for 200k sef. Transportation is cheaper there also. You already have free foodstuffs Abeg give me link to this kind of job na... Abeg 25 Likes |

I resided in Benin for 3 years. Accommodation is cheap. Tenancy has no agreement and commission in most places. Plus, there is little traffic. With your salary range, I believe you will be okay over there. A good resume' increases your chances of employment. As someone who has stayed in Benin and currently stay in Lagos, I will pick Benin. Lagos only sweet if you get better money. Except if your place of work is close to your house that you don't need to pay much daily and also you don't need to face the mad traffic situations and spend hours on the road every evening after work like my neighbour who leaves the house as early as 5am and comes home not earlier than 11pm almost everyday. The house rent is madly high with the wicked antics of estate agents who will rip you dry in the name of finding you an apartment. Transport cost is also nothing to write home about. I told my brother that stays in Benin that I spent 9k from Ajah to Iyana Ipaja (Uber) cos of traffic and up till today, he still doesn't believe that it is possible. That is why I hardly visit friends and family that stay very far from me, imagine spending 3-4k as t-fare to visit a loved one with the accompanying traffic torture. My brother, forget HMO matter pick Benin. Even me that my money is deducted every month for HMO, I have never really used their service. If I were in your shoes, I will pick Benin oo. 21 Likes |

Wow, thanks so much guys for all the comments, having discussed with my GM(we are very close), I told him I would be resigning cos I got a better offer of 350k(Lol), cos the Benin Job is like a 350k job in Lagos. He was like congratulations but I should hold on first and not tender my resignation, he would discuss with the Chairman and MD ASAP, only for me to get a call this evening from him telling me congratulations, they are willing to pay me that same 350k. This just scatter my head. Lots of thoughts running through my mind right now. Why didn't they increase my pay all this while? Why are they willing to suddenly pay me that same 350k? Hope this is not a trap to just increase my work and tie me down? 30 Likes 2 Shares |

mokset123: Yes I have, moving to Benin, I have free accommodation, just transport fare, I should roughly save up to 130k monthly if I settle my parents and siblings and utilities. Here in Lagos I save 100k, a times more if I get overtime at work. 4 Likes |

Kul3ger: Bro, I hail, Lagos na fake lifestyle but one can't deny there are life changing opportunities, in my years of working, I have had the good, bad and ugly, truly I have had opportunities I would never have had in Benin, but one can't trade it with the peace of mind that comes staying in Benin. I have always prayed for this years back(2020 precisely during Covid) when I was earning 160k that if I get a job of 200k in Benin I will gladly move back but now I have gradually build networks and relationships. |
