Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a popular politician from Kano state, the most populated state in the Northern part of Nigeria.
He has been nursing the ambition of being Nigeria's number one citizen for a couple of years.
He made a bold attempt as serving Kano state governor in 2014/15 but incubent president Muhammadu Buhari's popularity overshadowed him.
He made another attempt in 2019 but former vice president Atiku overshadowed him.
He is making a third effort this 2023 but the twin towering shadows of same vice president Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu's Muslim/Muslim ticket are once again dwarfing his ambition.

Should any of Atiku or Tinubu become Nigeria's next president, the leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement can as well kiss his presidential ambition a goodbye. This is because the winner would most probably want to go for a second term at the end of which Kwankwaso would have clocked 74.

However, should Peter Obi become Nigeria's next president, the coast would then be clear for Kwankwaso as the arguably the most popular northern politician to challenge him in 2027. By then both Atiku and Tinubu would have most probably retired from politics.
Kwankwaso would be doing himself a favour if he stays on in the race even though his chances of winning is very slim.
He can alternatively throw his weight behind Peter Obi instead of either Atiku or Tinubu.

If Kano is the only place Kwankwaso is popular and where he has his people, then he is popular indeed. Peter Obi on the other hand is already popular all over the country. He doesn't need to use rallies on Monday in the East to prove his popularity because he is not a local champion.
