The Oro festival was NEVER planned for election day anyway. The announcement specifically stated that it was gonna take place between 11.30/Midnight and 5.30 the next morning... each day. The last time I checked, Nigerian General Elections only take place during the day, right? 😏

So you didn't see some places where election ended by midnight on the presidential election?

Stupid culture.

But you celebrate "stupid" western culture.

Learn to appreciate your culture, that alone defines your identity. I'm sure you don't know the importance of identity.

During the last presidential elections voting was still taking place at 12 midnight in many polling stations in Lagos Lekki axis. INEC officials did not arrive until 4:00 PM on Election day. Then what happens if counting of votes is not finished by 11:30 pm? INEC officials are to physically transmit the results appart from electronically to the Local government and state headquarters.

Scheduling an Oro festival on Election day will be the height of irresponsibility. If allowed to pass, then every other tribes will put their cultural/traditional festivals on Election days to drive away people - both indigenes and non indigenes.

These cultures have outlived their usefulness. They contribute nothing to the progress and development of their society in the 21st century, instead they are retrogressive. Most of these so called cultures are usually oppression and exploitation of women, children and non natives.

We might as well bring back the killing of twins.

I disagree. These cultural activities help to ground the people psychologically to their original identities, to tell their story and properly anchor the people to their historical travails and possibly the future. It is also a mode of education of the young. As the people evolve, so do the culture.

Only modern Africans deride their cultural heritage and this is a mistake.

The question of killing of twins is the product of superstition, not culture. This superstition is not ubiquitous, by the way.
