In Judaism, the “messiah” is not a god, nor the son of a god. The messiah is expected to show up as a politician who rises to nearly divine status. If you’re following today’s politics, this definition may not come as a surprise to you.

Political rallies are taking on all the religious fervor of old tent revivals. A politician’s tenets are becoming articles of faith, and their followers are slavishly dedicated- to the point of worship- to a cult of personality

One need only spend 10 minutes on Nairaland to find a Obi supporters threatening everyone else with hellfire
Busy, terrified, furious, and often ill-informed voters seem obsessed with chasing a phantom — “the perfect person”, a flawless ideologue more interested in remaking Nigeria in his own image (always that of an angry Biafrans) than running the country.

Most voters agree we have problems, but many voters think picking the correct Messiah is the solution. They fail to see the desire for a Messiah is one of the most direct dangers to democracy in Nigeria history.

While the desire for a populist ideologue goes far beyond two or three parties, there’s no question Obi has the most dedicated, and the scariest, followers, but Tinubu's isn’t far behind, with citizens sounding like Inquisitional judges in the face of disagreement of any kind.

How extreme are voters getting? i interviewed a Christian who said he trusted Obi over Jesus.
Obi supporters everywhere turn on their friends- most recently Aisha Yusufu— in mere seconds for daring to disagree with their Fuhrer. Half of Enugu disbelieves a mountain of evidence against him because he’s their chosen ideologue.

Obi and tinubu are certainly not the only politicians of course to be treated more like gods than men, and I’m not equating the two in any way, except that they both have massive cults of personality.

Extremist followers on both the LP (the entire LP at this point) and APC however often indulge in the same justification for their cruelty:

“We will engage in any behavior we like and you will put up with it because we are victims, we are ignored, but most of all, we are furiously angry.” Anger is Nigeria's morality car wash, and the less self-control a person has, the more easily they are forgiven anything.

Unquestioning devotion to a political messiah has created Biafrans in which compromise is a dirty word and patriotism is not defined by dedication to freedom, but rather loyalty to one individual.

There is no separation of church and state because the cult of personality becomes the only acceptable faith. One in which very flawed humans are becoming untouchable saints leading an army of zombie-like followers for whom individual thought is forbidden, education a laughingstock, reason a mortal sin, and savagery the only tongue in which they speak.

No matter what your beliefs, worldview, or lack thereof, when voters go looking for a savior among the most corrupt people on earth, Azikiwe, ojukwu, effiong, kanu, Simon now Obi, they will find nothing but a golden calf. When they go searching for someone to do their thinking for them, they will find plenty of political preachers eager to fill their minds with lies and nonsense.

There is no substitute for your own five senses. There is no substitute for the real compassion that comes naturally to you. There is no substitute for using your own brain. Use it wisely.

At the end, despite your inane article, Tinubu will be tried and most likely will drop what's not his.

Does it belong to Obi or Atiku, it's anyone's guess.

Quit with the crap articles . People will believe who or what they need to believe to help them have hope.

If you believe otherwise, it's your cup of zobo.

Case is in court. Put up and shut up.

Obi supporters want to truncate this hard earned democracy. If they can’t have it, nobody else could have it. They know that winning at the court is a mirage. You just need to read their petition to know its a losing battle.

You people are so disingenuous and dishonest by nature. Supporting a candidate passionately is not the problem.

The issue is supporting candidates messianically to the extent you brook no opposition and stop at nothing to proclaim it must be that candidate and that candidate alone regardless of what others think or want.

Buhari fans never acted like that. They never painted post-apocalyptic pictures proclaiming Nigerians would be eating from bins if Buhari does not win.

Most importantly, Buhari has lost a few times and his supporters did not go on a ethnocentric war of attrition against others, like the Yorubas, as Obi fans have set a precedence doing in our post 1999 nascent democracy.

Similar display of Igbos unwholesome and repellent deceit is exemplified by how you all wish to portray Yorubas as bigots who rejected GRV.

Yet you are all dubiously and mischievously silent about the nauseating anti-Yoruba views and utterances of GRV that made the Yorubas reject a hater of their ethnic stock when normal reasoning and critical thinking teaches them to be apprehensive of in the most base sense of human self-preservation.

We all know it is a fundamental consideration that normal folks will not elect a proven enemy to lead them. Yet only you extremist Igbos want to feign ignorance of this base consideration of humanity simplify to validate your hatred of others and your crude desire to always defame their character and besmirch their standing.

Actions have equal and opposite reaction to normal folks bar Igbos. Once Chameleonic Chinedu has shown openly and proudly that he hates Yorubas, not even apologising once exposed, it is entirely expected and true to character only unreasonable Igbos would still expect Yorubas to vote him governor of Lagos.

What needs to happen is that you Igbos must be given your own Biafra and made to remain there because, clearly, your hateful disposition and inconsiderstiin towards others will never allow you to be development partners to fellow Nigeria.

Get your representatives to also advocate for Biafra and any group that desires secession at the National Assembly. Then igbos can continue live anywhere in the world, legally.

You are talking about developmental partners, let us focus only on Railway.......With the Chinese loans collected on behalf of Nigerians for upgrading the railway sector, name one railway project the Southeast got from the loan? Rather, we are expected to contribute in paying back the loan used to extend Railway line into Niger Republic! Uganda is landlocked and imports through Kenya sea port and Kenya offered to extend their rail line to their border with Uganda, then Uganda can continue the rail to their container deport but Buhari extended it into Niger Republic, can you rationalize it?

Zombie post

Whatever you claim she did can be justified by the fundamental principles of democratic elections which is essentially the right to vote and be voted for. Voting Buhari is no crime and that is not even the point here.

The point under discussion is the extremism and dangerous messiah worship (typified by the blind followership Kanu and IPOB enjoy) of Obidients who are mainly Igbos.

What is extremist and undemocratic is bringing a militant, bullying, intolerant, threatening and intimidating fervour to the democratic voting process which Obidient alone have done since our current democracy began in 1999.

Nigeria is not the SE where rabid and murderous followership of Kanu, Ekpa, IPOB etal is perfectly normal and acceptable to the extent it can become an insidious part of our national politics going forward.

Nigerian leaders are famous for inaction and dithering. It is obvious Igbos will bring IPOB-style militancy, as a lasting legacy, to Nigerian national politics if their excesses are not checked.

These people do not know how to behave and Nigeria will hurt herself indulging them all in the name of "nationally inclusive politics".

If you have seen average Northerners acting like Boko Haram and ISWAP, during elections and in relation to the outcome, then show me this so we can proclaim them similar to Igbos and Obidients. Ditto Yorubas, SSand Middle belt.

These are the fact of our reality today at the terrible hands of soon-to-be terrorists called Obidients. Deal with it.

Along with being selfish, Obi is a very dangerous individual very comfortable dividing Nigerians by exploiting 'faultlines' of ethnicity, religion etal.

He famously implored Anambra folks not to vote "Yoruba Party" when Ngige ran under the ACN banner to be a Senator in the State. He shamelessly and openly inspired a bullying gang--up against Ngige.

He is the perfect hate-monger, like Kanu and Ojukwu etal, Igbos, above anything else, have historically shown a predisposition to following messianically.
