EKWEREMADU: DABIRI-EREWA PLEADS FOR COMPASSION

Abuja, May 3, 2023: Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has joined others in pleading with the UK government to show leniency with former Nigeria Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu awaiting the verdict of the court on organ harvesting.

In a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of NIDCOM in Abuja, she pleaded with the court to show compassion and sympathy in this case

"I join men and women of goodwill to plead for clemency for Sen. Ike Ekweremadu , if only even considering the psychological trauma, Sonia , the daughter, would be going through knowing that her parents are in jail because they tried to save her from a health condition she had no control over", Dabiri-Erewa pleaded.

Dabiri-Erewa who reiterated her pleas, implored the UK government to temper justice with mercy, and admitted that "mistakes have been made, and lessons learned".

The NIDCOM boss posited that though there is no ignorance before the law, Ekweremadu and his wife acted under the instincts of their parents to save an ailing daughter, and not for commercial purposes.

E-signed.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit NiDCOM, Abuja.

Only high level diplomacy can work at this point. Like the president picking up the phone to offer a deal. Reduced sentence there, life VISA ban and deportation to Nigeria to finish his jail term as House arrest.

This is bigger than Abike, waaaay bigger

I can understand the pleas for mercy, but not for a Nigerian politician, they are the definition of fantastically corrupt, is it possible for a senator in the United States to be caught and tried for organ trafficking in any African country, NO.

There are lessons to be learnt, but our politicians no dey learn, the greed and selfishness to embezzel has eaten deep into their coconut heads.

UK is not a zoo, and they will sentence the criminal according to his crimes.

Nigerian government officials are pleading for mercy for a judgement that's already concluded. If this incident happened in Nigeria, Ekweremadu would not be in jail for more than 24 hours. Nigeria is just too unserious to be considered a country.

Will they be writing letters if this happened to an ordinary Nigerian?

Why is no human rights agency in Nigeria clamouring for judgement on behalf of the boy involved? He is Nigerian as well, isn't he?

Why does it look like some people are 'too big' to be punished for something that has long be established as an offense?

The point remains that the elites doesn't give a shit about you. They care for themselves irrespective of political or tribal differences.

She thinks UK government is like their dilapidated system of government, UK should allow the rule of law to take its full course, in fact he should be made a scapegoat. So the life of Sonia is more equal than the life of the poor man in the street that her father contributed for the condition he found himself in? Truly Nigerian leaders are very wicked, nobody is talking about the right of the poor man in question they only want their fellow devil to be freed
