Take a look at the crime rate and lawlessness in the society and you will realize flogging actually is not working. We need a paradigm shift in our parenting style in Nigeria.

Come let me teach you how to flog.
The kind one that feels like those wicked specie of mosquitoes that bites you in ondo and few weeks in Lagos you still dey feel the bitter bite even scratch the spot till it turned to scar that lives with you for life.

Go and sit down jaree.... Our teachers flogged us back in secondary school. It was seen as punishment and not some kind of perversion

Despite all the flogging, we are still the most corrupt nation. High rate of internet fraud, hook up.

Flogging never actually worked.

Many parents flogg and gave up. Children revolt and fight back. Children become more dangerous and beast mode is activated.

Alot of children want to stay away from home.

At the end the flogging will at a point be needless. That is when most parent use the real parenting skills of advise and pleading.

You can not flog an 18 year old. He will fight you.

I think real parenting is the ability to use the other forms of effective punishment and reward approach. Because advise is the best.

In school the most notorious are still the most flogged. Did they stop being notorious? No.

The most pampered are more willing to excel academically.

In parenting, the ability to use the carrot and stick approach effectively works to a very large extent.

Children get use to beating and it becomes ineffective.

At a point you would not be able to beat that child. What will you do?

This is Africa where we we teach morals to children and encourage corruption of adults

Spits

In Africa is where a Father teaches his children not to steal while he loots his place of work endlessly

We actually are too lazy in African schools to imbibe theories of parenting and teaching. We prefer the easier route. Using pain and fear.

If many Nigeria teachers were living abroad they will learn patience and respect for children rights.

We most certainly do not respect that in Nigeria.

Many wealthy politicians sent their children to these schools in Nigeria where no one hits their children.

These same children end up the in elite and political class. They very confident and outspoken.

Flogging is for the poor.

In life anything done out of balance or improperly would yield bad results. The same applies to flogging or physical discipline. The first step in parenting is teaching, if a child does not know right from wrong, good from evil then how can such a child behave appropriately? Flogging cannot and will not replace proper communication and learning.

Now to your point, Nigeria is highly corrupt just like all the other countries that share these three things:

1. Poverty ( Unemployment, Underemployment, Bigotry, Nepotism etc)
2. Insecurity & Lack of Amenities
2. A failed system

Give Nigerians a system like the USA and I guarantee you Nigerians would perform excellently.......Case in point, look at the numerous folks wey dey jaapa to America. Majority of them behave themselves. They pay taxes, wear seat belts, follow road signs, respect the cops, maintain proper hygiene etc.

If those same people had remained in Nigeria, it is very possible that majority of them would be just as corrupt as the government. This only proves that you cannot say flogging works or does not work based on the corruption in Nigeria, rather we must look at the overall picture.

LEt's compare Nigeria to a country where they rarely flog their children, the gold ol USA. How are the American born students performing in schools? What percentage of the kids end up being drug users? How many of the female kids end up having juvenile sex? How many turn to violence and become mass murderers?

If your theory on flogging was correct, shouldn't a country like the USA raise one of the best set of kids on the planet? The reality is that compared to the 1960s and 1970s, American born kids are 10 times more rotten. Upon all the children's rights, the relationship between parents and their kids is at an all time low. The family system is a joke now and as early as 15 these kids are emancipating themselves from frying pan to fire. In life anything done out of balance or improperly would yield bad results, whether it is flogging or being padi padi with your kids!

The true purpose of flogging or any other kind of discipline is not necessarily to change or make a child good or bad, it is simply to let them know that there will always be consequences for bad behavior. Today the consequence may be 12 strokes, tomorrow it could be 12years imprisonment.

I thank God for my Dad that instilled discipline in me through flogging. His own was really scary.... So if you remember what your father will do to you after misbehaving.... You gat to respect yourself. And you know what time it was then..... Teenage yrs when you are explorative and mischievous. It kept us in check till the crazy moment passed and then we began to caution ourselves.

I'm proud of you Dad and thank God you no kill me for my sister's sake😂

2. Flogging has not been concluded as an effective deterrent against crime. Consider agberos and thugs out on the streets. Many of them were damaged from all the flogging and still... nothing but crime. undecided

You cannot beat an 18 yr old, that's why u should beat them when they were small children. Btw, training is not just about caning, it also involves love, giving talks, explaining why something is wrong

Flogging should be reserved for male children. That hormone called testosterone no dey let them hear word.
Jesus came into the temple and found the place turned into a marketplace. He was so angry that he used cords and made a whip and flogged the merchandisers out of the temple.

Imagine d magic positive change, caning would do to her. Beating helps a small child with self control. When a small child remembers d possibility of being beaten, the child quickly does away with unwanted habits.

Well, most village and some township schools still practice it here regardless of it being banished, they do it low key.. grin grin... But if you know your rights as a student, then you can stand up for yourself and the law will support you.. grin grin grin

In as much as I don't support corporal punishment, some kids can be demons..😂😂😂.. They will test your level of patience in a way that it has never been tested before.. Last week I was just watching this other video of a high school girl in the US fighting her school teacher for taking her phone from her, she even dislocated the teacher's leg.

You can tell that the girl is from a damaged home.

Yes it is because foolishness Will always be in the heart of a child but a rod of correction help to drive it far away. Bible. However every form of discipline must be done with moderation and must clearly point to an offence.

You sounded like a pedophile self, "ass", intention matters a alot, u saying it as if he is sexually abusing the young girl. Secondary school especially, student will tell u they prefer been stroked on their bum than on der palm..... I was stroked too n am still here and still happy i got dat correction wt flogging back then. Its still one of the sweetest memory back then in secondary school days. It has to jst be minimal and light stroke. Some kids dont heed to voice control, buh wen they see the stroke, it auto correct them fast fast.

Nobody said u should flog ur child like some beast of burden or over slight offences... Flogging should be extremely rare & a last resort. Shouting is also a waste of time, instead be that calm parent that can change mode in a snap between being the most pampering & a punishment expert... Remember, all d necessary discipline MUST BE INSTALL B4 A CHILD becomes 15 years of age...in dis age, if u have done things right d child would have more of respect instead of FEAR..dis is very important

Flogging is a tool in the discipline tool kit ... it is not the only tool. If others are not working... it can be used. The problem is too many of us pick the flogging tool first .... which should never be. Worse is when some of us believe it is the only tool that can work ... and will continue to use it never mind we see it is not working and finally after yearsss ... we give up and conclude the child is possessed! Now beating is not the same... that's like aggravated flogging.... that does not come in the discipline tool kit.

Parents in other African countries flogged their children too.
And they're not as corrupt as Nigerians.
Western parents who didn't flog their children produced mass shooters and pornstars.
Corporeal punishment has been helping to instil discipline and fear of authority in children from time immemorial.
Your generation z won't rubbish it without suffering the consequences.

Thank you. You got the drift.
They want to use only mouth to train children, like the West.
Their foolishness will correct them.
Between January and now, over 3000 Americans have been killed in mass shootings.
They will learn the hard way.
