Place a towel under baby seats

All manner of food bits and liquids can accumulate under a baby seat, where they can permanently stain the upholstery. Place a sheet of heavy plastic and an absorbent towel under the seat to prevent damage, and re-secure the seat according to the manufacturer’s directions.

What kind of oil, brake fluid, and grease used is just as important as when it is changed. The best oil in the world will do your engine no good if you never change it. Cleaning and protecting the finishes of the vehicle inside and out will keep things looking good. Paint, plastic, leather, and fabric need help to survive the constant assault of sun and elements. Utilize both of these plans together and you, like Uncle Fred, will enjoy happy motoring for a good, long time. Follow the accompanying 10 handy tips for keeping your vehicle in top shape.





Tip 1
Check and change the oil. No single step will help an engine last more than regular oil and filter changes will. Conversely, nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes.






Tip 2
Flush the cooling system and change coolant once a year. A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the cooling system in good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from building up inside the cooling system.






Tip 3
Change out transmission and differential oils. While not requiring frequent service, these fluids must be changed according to service intervals. Always use transmission fluid or gear oil of the recommended type and viscosity.






Tip 4
Keep it clean. While washing the outside of the vehicle is obvious, most everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside. Hosing off winter salt and road grime is a good idea.






Tip 5
Everything with moving parts needs grease to survive. This ball joint went into early retirement due to poor lubrication.






Tip 6
Nothing keeps paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax. Apply wax at least every six months.






Tip 7
Driveline components such as u-joints also require regular lubrication. The driveline may have to be removed to access the zerk grease fitting.






Tip 8
Protect the interior plastic by parking the vehicle in the shade, using a window deflector screen, and applying a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out.






Tip 9
Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals. Wheel bearings and grease are inexpensive compared to spindle and hub replacement, or liberated wheels rolling down the road ahead of you.






Tip 10
Brake fluid is hygroscopic. This means it is adept at attracting moisture. Moisture causes components to corrode and fail. Replace fluid and bleed system once a year. Brake fluid is cheap. Calipers, hoses, and sensors are expensive.

Paint does more than make your vehicle look great. It’s also the first line of defense against rusted body panels. Of course, the best way to protect the paint is to park the car in a garage. If that is not possible, park in the shade or purchase a car cover. The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down paint and cause it to fade. Some car covers protect your car from more than sun, moisture, bird droppings, and dust — they also have a thin layer of cushioning that will guard against light impact, such as from a tipped bicycle or small falling tree branch.

Touch-up paint won’t adhere well to rust. So be sure to keep some matching touch-up paint on hand so you can touch up any minor nicks, often found around door edges, before rust has a chance to form.

Tape saves light covers

A cracked taillight or turn-signal cover, if left alone, may allow your light compartment to fill with water and cause some real damage. A good short-term fix is to tape over the crack. Use the red or orange tape that’s made for this purpose.You can purchase it at many automotive parts stores. In the event the coloured tapes are not available in your locality ordinary transparent tape would suffice.

Apart from filtration they are also designed to maintain a constant air temperature while spraying, usually about 22c and of course to bake the new paintwork so that it is tough and durable, this is done at 65c metal temperature. So in many ways the low bake oven is an absolute must for car paintwork repair and car spraying, any professional bodyshop should have one not only for their qualities to produce great car paintwork but also they are a government requirement.

Now you know what a low bake oven does it is easy to see that this specialist equipment is a must if you are looking to have your car paintwork repair or general car body repairs done correctly. High paintwork standards can only be achieved in a low bake oven as the finish comes off the gun first, before any nibbing and polishing is done. A great paint job starts with an ‘off the gun finish’. This is because in our controlled oven every coat of paint is sprayed at exactly the same temperature and all the overspray (the paint not going on the car) is sucked away and not falling back onto the nice new paint job. Overspray that falls back onto fresh paintwork can create poor finish hold up over time and can often be seen on a job that is 6 -12 months old after painting. ]What happens when a low bake oven is not used in the car paintwork repair process?

Have you ever seen a car that has been sprayed and looks really nice for a while then over a few weeks the gloss has dropped and the overall finish is quite dull? It is a common thing among the cheaper scale of car body repairs, bodyshops that have not invested in a low bake oven are usually cheaper, that is because they are not paying to have the correct equipment to do your car. All two part paints nowadays need to be dried at 65c. As most colours now are base and clear coat the only way for your car to be fully protected after a car paintwork repair is if it has been baked. The heat creates the chemical reaction in the paints make-up and that is what makes it harden, failure to bake the paint will leave it soft, easy to scratch and often dull

]Spotting car spraying that has not been done in a low bake oven.

When looking at a car paintwork repair that has not been done in an oven there will be tell tale signs, here are just a few:

The overall finish will not have a deep lustre, it will often be hazy and the finish uneven.
If the finish has been sprayed with lots of particles in it then it will have been ‘flatted’ and polished. Non baked paintwork will drop in shine after a while as the drying process takes place. Yes it can be buffed back up but it will drop down again, it just is not fully dry because it was not dried at 65c.
Where dust and particles are ‘nibbed’ out of the final finish fine scratches are left. These scratches are polished out but again they will come back, non cured paintwork will take months to dry out fully so you will not have that tough durability to protect your base colour.

]Good car paintwork repair and car spraying needs the right conditions.
The low bake oven is the ultimate environment for car painting control. The heat is controlled, the air flow is controlled, all overspray is removed and not left to settle in the fresh paintwork. The air is changed as often as 6 times or more per minute so it is fresh and particle free, providing the car is made up cleanly the job will be beautiful. The air supply is dried and filtered before it reaches the spray gun so there will be no particles in the airline. Finally the car will be baked and the tough ’2k paint’ will form a protective layer once again, protecting your car finish.
