Then, you don't reason at all. It's in the news that petrol supplied is more than what we truly consumed. Where does the rest go to? What does this mean to subsidy? Won't this keep increasing too? Some neighbouring countries will then enjoy the subsidized fuel while Nigeria's economy suffers.

Oga, it's gradual. One step at a time. Tinubu is an absolute Nigerian. Not that fo.ol whose loyalty is to Niger Republic and all Fulanis in Africa.

He doesn't have to. What he's pursuing is the greatness of Nigeria by putting us before others. He isn't pursuing a vendetta against our neighbours.

That is why he needs to recover those assets. Nigeria first before any other country. He will upturn and undo what that goof stick did for 8yrs, playing bad blood politics with the South while enriching anything called Fulani.

This is a stupid and thoughtless statement. It is silly to punish 200m people because some few other people are stealing from the government and the govt is clueless and cannot arrest or investigate them.
The real issue with the so called fuel subsidy is the depreciation of the Naira. So, it is cheaper for people using stable currency like CFA to buy the fuel in Nigeria and smuggle it to other countries to sell for profit
There can never been an end to this so called subsidy if the Naira keeps depreciating and the FGN refuses to investigate the fraud in the subsidy payments and prosecute the people that are stealing from the scheme. I
The same argument was used by Obasanjo and Goodluck to increase the price of fuel in years past.
If the dollar exchange rises to N1200, the same idiots in govt will still come back and say they want to remove subsidy again.

Oga, they just started this administration. Give them time and stop expecting magic like Obi lied that he would perform.

I thought they said Tinubu cannot address people, that he's been dodging interviews and that he's sick and all that but I've been wondering... Can a sick man be having series of meetings like this man? Since Tinubu assumed office he's been busy. This is what we've been missing for the past 8 years

I noticed the same thing.

And Tinubu sounds passionate when he talks the way I haven't seen any Nigerian president be.

They usually just sound like they're reading off a script even when they are not. wink

Tinubu comes across as ....human.

I used to think like this before. But if you consider the fact that USA with all the advancement cannot curb illegal immigration, drugs etc coming from Mexico and other neighbouring countries into USA, you will understand how hard and almost impossible policing the border is. Even Trump who was elected on the premise of funding and building a wall, failed.

the highlighted are the key words there. in nigerias case, is the fuel coming from neighbouring countries or the other way around?

secondly, the items you mentioned coming from mexico are concealable items. how is so much fuel that sustains entire countries concealed?

In or out (like we have many smuggled goods coming in as well), we have products and people crossing the border. There are tunnels built sometimes to facilitate these movement. There are equipments and technology at the disposal of USA that we don't have in Nigeria. Nigeria border many poorer countries unlike USA that is dealing with mainly Mexicans. The length of our borders are long too. We are just talking about the practicality of things.
Apart from smuggling, it is not economically sensible for Nigeria to be subsiding a depleting resource like fuel. Once you remove the incentive, smuggling etc will die a natural death.

you didnt answer my questions.

secondly, the items you mentioned coming from mexico are concealable items. how is so much fuel that sustains entire countries concealed?

are you aware that since the 90s, governments have been "removing" subsidy so as to discourage "smuggling" of petroleum products to neighbouring countries. how come 30years later, we are still the same discussion?

why did all the previous "removals" not stop the "smuggling"?

This is not a question and answer session. We try to exchange ideas if possible.
The answer to your number one question, check my early reply.
Secondly, drugs and illegal immigration is not so much concealable items. That is why they sometimes build tunnels for easy passage.
Thirdly, this is the first time you will have total subsidy removal in a while. What you have before now is price increase to lower the subsidy amount that Govt has to cover. This time around, it is total removal of the subsidy. If landing or refining cost of a liter of petrol is N1,000 ( also exchange rate will play a role here), then N1,000 is what Nigerians or any other person will pay. And if the international oil price goes down, price of fuel will go down and Nigerians may be paying only N350. Market force will determine the price and there will be no government intervention in terms of subsidy payment. I try to explain and I hope you get it.
