Lol Peter Obi wey no get manifesto self dey claim proposal.

Tinubu released his manifesto first and this was captured in it.

Jagaban is in the league of Awolowo genuis, Peter Obi couldn’t even lace the shoes of a local government chairman in Lagos.

Imagine Tinubu have done more structural policy in Nigeria in just 2 weeks that all previous president combined since 1999.

Fuel subsidy, gone
Disparity inexchange rate, gone

Tinubu is copying and implementing Obi's policies albeit inferiorly.

So far, he has removed oil subsidy, without putting in place the cushioning policies as Obi proposed. Obi will score Tinubu 60% in his fuel subsidy removal strategy.

Tinubu is also proposing a single exchange rate in Nigeria. This is yet another proposal from Obi. This has not been carried out yet. Once it is carried out, I will announce what Peter Obi will score Tinubu on this.

Tinubu proposed employing 50 million youths into the army and feeding them agbado. Obi's people made huge fun of this proposal before the election. It will seem as though Tinubu has abandoned this policy based on the fact that Obi will not sanction it. Obi will score Tinubu 60% for abandoning his proposal cornerstone.

Meanwhile, Obi is in tribunal and about to kick Tinubu the drug baron out of office.

The way some guys are shouting up and down on this policy.
I hope u know how this affects international trade.

There is no country of the world that doesn't subsidize a particular thing or the other depending on the nature of that country.
The reason for our forex shortage is because we are import dependent.
They have stolen so much money such that there's no naira to defend the dollar.
Corruption and import dependency are the twin problem.
If u think Dangote which is privately owned who is in many countries and may want that they are paid their incomes in Nigerian naira because the thieving share holders do not want to expose their wealth.

This would not positively affect the naira unlike if NNPC was Nigerian owned.

God help us

Hmmm, I was one of those who always opposed the free float because I felt we were not earning enough, but this your reason sounds sensible. I know FPI avoided Meffy and his voodoo policies because they could not repatriate money.

Anyway, we'll see
It may make the government in the bid to increase earning start seeing how to produce in area we have competitive advantage especially other sources of foreign exchange earnings to increase inflow that can strengthen the naira

Where will the more inflow come from??

You guys are so annoying and ignorant

Even if more forex doesn’t come in…
The states should receive more Naira (with the elimination of the approx N300/$100 disparity).

However, more forex should come in through OFFICIAL channels…
Since there is basically no (arbitrage) advantage in bringing forex through unofficial windows.

Nonetheless, this is a policy with LONG-TERM benefits…
A unified (reasonably predictable and hopefully therefore relatively stable) exchange rate should aid FDI (and thus more forex).

Tinubu may well be a Drug Baron…
But this seems the BEST (no policy is perfect) forex policy for Nigeria (hoping his rightful successor continues it cheesy).

Hope people can now see what is meant by purposeful and deliberate leadership

With this policy, more foreign exchange inflow will come in. Naira may depreciate in the short run but it will appreciate in the long run

May I please ask what gives you such assurance?
Ist and foremost Naira is weak because it’s not an international market driven currency. Regardless of how much liquidity of greenback you have in the economy, it will falter with the passing of time.
What will strengthen naira, just like any other currency is local production of goods and services which in turn are either exported internationally or consumed local with net earnings and profits driving other sectors of the economy.
As we speak, our net earnings fundamentally comes from the sales of crude oil. Agricultural produce would have been another great stuff if the previous government was liberal and genuine in thought and purpose.
Naira will keep faltering until government recognizes the need to home-grow our economy. So long as we keep
Importing tooth pick, rice, textile, tires, milk, and other basic commodities, naira remains a useless and devalued currency.
This has nothing to do with one single individual. It’s the economic concept.

[quote author=OfoIgbo post=123789074]It seems as though Tinubu has abandoned his Agbado proposals, and decided to settle for proposals marshaled out by Peter Obi during the campaign season.

That is good news.

I do hope they totally destroy those initial proposals by Tinubu to recruit 50 millions youths into the xxxxxx

Tinubu had already said he wanted to unite the exchange rates during his campaign and thats what he's doing now.

He does not need to follow Obi. Even if he never said (he did), Tinubu has a history of employing technocrats who would eventually advise him too do so.

I suspect it's the new helmsman at the CBN who made this call. If Emefiele had any moral compass, it should have been something he should have done without prompting once Tinubu took office. He did not which indicates he was complicit in the roundtripping that boomed in his time in office.

Nigeria has been bankrupted by fuel subsidies.

The government has no choice but to abolish fuel subsidy and float the naira. There's still no guarantee that they've done either, everyone wait a few months and see if the policy change is genuine or if it's going to be another manipulation of the markets.

Everyone is hoping for the best

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Most nations subsidize PRODUCTION, not consumption (as we do in Nigeria)…
When price of imports rise, we ideally should become LESS “import dependent” and turn to local substitutes and/or inputs.

Furthermore, not quite sure what “income” you’re referring to?
Dangote’s earnings from, and exports to, other countries are repatriated in dollars (which should translate to MORE Naira).

Tinubu may well be a Drug Baron…
But this seems at first blush the BEST forex policy (no policy is perfect) for Nigeria, and hopefully his successor continues it. wink

Once all forex is going into one market and there are no distortions created by round tripping, the price will eventually come down. It will not come down to the current official window of N490 (or what) but it won't be as high as the N750 they're currently buying it for at the "black market". That is better for everyone since the black market is where traders buy.

I heard Tinubu and Obi of Onitsha the Igwe warrant chief are trying to buy the Onitsha palace and turn it to a drug den. Is it true?

Could it be that Tinubu and Obi of Onitsha is the main cause of thousands of Yebow youth scattered across prisons in Asia?

How Obi wan take get policy when the lunatic dosen’t even have a manifesto until when he saw Tinubu released his own?

Even when they were both governors, we can point to transformational policy that can be linked to Tinubu that other states copied but no one can talk of any policy from Obi the lunatic when he governed Anambla that other state copied.

Ojuku of cursed memory will be turning in his grave now when he say how disgraceful Obiwhisky supporters are trying so hard to claim Tinubu policies.

Obi that coward. If he had removed subsidy, the nation would have been grounded by now. He will probably be crying on TV with his womanly voice.

This policy will backfire in a long run because of Dangotes and co,whom their source of income is FX ,they will find a way to thwart this policy to suit them.

For me this is just an elephant projects, this is not what Nigeria needs right now .What Nigeria needs now is to secure our boarders and beef up our security for farmers to go back to farm, block all the oil theft, start building a new refineries at least 1 in the SS region since Dangote refinery will start working soon.

Open international transactions and you will see the exchange rate close gradually, because there would no much demand for physical dollars.

The price will not come down as long as you don't earn dollars.
The major dealer in dollars is the fg and the fg has its own dollar problems with the huge dollar debt the last government through on its neck.
And lack of dollar or deliberate withhold of dollar will always lead to speculative to drive the price lower.
Unless the fg has so much dollar largese to flood the market.
Then you have those import dollar bills
