I agree!! Fulani Terrorist are already using drones to survey areas of future attack in villages near Jos (this has challenged the Plateau natives to invest in that direction). If the Nigerian Police are too corrupt to invest in such as one of their recon intelligence tools...then, whew! What can I say?

And don't forget "sniffer" dogs. The Police needs to buy these intelligent puppies and train them to recognize "cow scents" and especially Fulani smell. This is so that any isolated attack in the bushes that results in the deaths of innocent farmers--will always somehow leave scent-trails that only these intelligent dogs can sniff. These dogs can lead the SIS team straight to where the Herder terrorists are hiding even if it is a 100 kms away in the bush.

Tinubu said something about this during his campaign, I think he said the civil defense will take up the personal protection the police are doing so the police can focus more on general security, good one, and he said the NSCDC would be in charge of protecting the judiciary

The first question, No this is not the first time.

Second question, yes his predecessors said so but different people in the position. Policies are different individually

Your last part, it ended up just like Subsidy removal promised by past administrations, but the president with balls removed it first day in office without NLC or TUC going on strike

So if it isn't the first time, what makes this one so special?

If his predecessors were "different people in the position", then they all couldn't have executed the same policy the same way?

We are talking about just one policy. Which "policies are different individually"?

Is it the IG of police that "removed" fuel subsidy? Is it his predecessors that promised to "remove" fuel Subsidy in the past?

What happened that previous IGs couldn't withdraw police men from VIPs?

You've not hired police before.

There's nothing like subsidy there. The amount of money those VIP pay their escorts is astronomical compared to their salaries. In fact, escort services is a huge money making venture for the NPF. Ask anyone working in SPU. That's why the ban can never work. Police are making money from it. That's how it works in many developing countries, not just Nigeria.

In any developed nation a policeman paid with taxpayers money can never be reduced to guiding, guarding and being a security to an individual citizen or VIP. You hire a private security outfit if you need one.

Vips pay the government and the police for vip services so what are u even talking about? do they protect vips for free?

Either they are paid heavily or not, policemen paid with taxpayers money have no business guiding or guarding an individual citizen (VIP or not). It is the responsibility of policemen to security the lives and properties of every citizens. If any VIP wants security for him/herself let them go hire private security. Enough of this rubbish.

Tinubu is surrounded by his own loyaltists who they have been together for decades. They are not just loyalists but round pegs in round holes. That popular excuse we make for inefficient governance "the President has the intention of doing good but the people around him are not loyal and have no good intentions like the president..." has no reason to arise at all in Tinubu's government. Anything less than 90% success simply means FAILURE.

I am confident that, Nigeria will experience a rapid acceleration in the direction of lasting prosperity in a very short time to come because of the cohesive nature of this government working to achieve the same goal.

Fully agree.

The most annoying part after reading all comments is that, some donā€™t see anything wrong in what the new IGP is doing. How would you train a special kind of police to secure VIPā€™s?
Who will pay for the training afterwards?

Nice development but not until it is drawn from private security pool.

We must do everything to de-subsidised the elite. Let anyone who need escort or private guard pay for them from his pocket.

Government should stop subsidising security for individual elite. Police is meant to offer general protection to lives and property of all Nigerians and not become exclusive right of the elites and political leaders

Seems the second word I dislike after Obidients is subsidy

I think Tinubu will modernise Nigeria as a whole.

This idea sounds good.

Looks this 'Tinubu boy' IGP Olukayode Egbetokun has innovative plans for Nigerian Police and the good thing is that he will not sweat to secure presidential support.

But given what happened in last general election particularly in Lagos, he shouldn't touch the issue of state police because omooor na better trap for non-indigenes in each of the states of the federation be dat.

All of you just keep decieving yourselves to praise Tinubu for something every IGP has in the past proposed and nothing happened. This is Nigeria.

Firstly, the same Policemen won't allow it to see the light of the day, Why? Do you know how much these VIPs pay their escorts and their oga at the top apart from what Government pay them as Salaries? Do you know how much is shared in every police station everyday with the knowledge of the DPO of that station? undocumented bribe money fa.

Secondly, as long as it is still the same corrupt policemen that will be drafted into the newly proposed unit nothing extraordinary will happen...case study EFCC.

It is like you guys don't know corruption in Nigeria is already institutionalized...no Messiah including Peter Obi (although he will try his best) can save Nigeria, only Nigerians can save Nigeria. Visit the closest local government in your area and see things yourself. We Obidients are patiently waiting, after 4 years you all will receive serious online bashing that will make you abandon your phone grin grin grin grin grin we are waiting with our e-stones ready for deployment on your skulls grin grin grin grin grin

On one hand I am glad Tinubu is President, atleast after 4 years the noise pollution and image laundry will reduce...it is the stomach of the common man on the street that will determine if Tinubu did well not online hype.

Is it the man that introduced agbero to Lagos as his tax collector that will fight bribery and corruption? I laugh in Swahili.

As long as an average Nigerian is evil, trablistic and an hypocrite don't expect anything special in Tinubu's Presidency, period.

From what I gathered, the training of this special police force is not to secure VIPs but to respond rapidly to any cases of terrorist attacks within the country. Almost like what the SWAT team does in America.

Good work ... please consider to open a police line like 911 toll free for citizens to be able to contact police in times of emergencies.

This is very crucial. You need to set up a dedicated Call Service for exactly this purpose--who will take the calls, determine the level of severity then instruct the nearest Police officer or unit where such is happening to respond quickly. Of course in the US people have abused this to the point that what they term "SWAT calls" has been made a crime. Frivolous calls tying up precious time and resources that would have been used to actually attend to actual crimes happening in real time--has been made a crime also.

In a Nigeria context, you still need the proposed Community Policing system or the State Police on grounds to act as a layer of verification for any urgent life or death call. If the designated people in the community can verify that there is an impending attack or an attack going on--then this elevates the urgency/priority of that call.

I think the real problem is the fact that being only 1000 per state--they will still be spread too thin. If a community verifies ahead of time that an impending terrorist attack is about to happen or is happening 145 kilometers away--and the nearest SIS unit is that far away---unless they also have their own Helicopters or Planes to get there fast--it still makes sense to also train the community on how to defend themselves.

I never in my life thought I would need to buy a gun and train to shoot except in a video game. The Police should train these key people in these communities how to shoot with better weapons and give them a special license for such emergencies. In this way, the community still has a fighting chance while they wait for the SIS unit to arrive.

How many operational groups are the police going to have?, there's PMF,SPU,CTU,SF already so what's the point, simply reorganize the existing units, allocating each it's definite function, increase their weaponry n training, for instance PMF: for highway security, riots n communal conflicts,CTU:for bank n financial institution security, protection of critical n strategic assets, SPU:for VIP protection n their premises, SF should be disbanded n their personal distributed among PMF,SPU OR CTU.then EOD should be reformed to,HARZARDIOUS EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL TECHNICAL TEAM (HAZEMATT),then ensure that every unit stick to their functions n only collaborate where n when necessary simple.
