Since Governor Soludo made the call for Anambra traders in Lagos to relocate and bring home their businesses to their homeland, I have been struggling to process such a call. Coming from a Professor of economics and a global citizen makes it more difficult.

Assuming that these Anambra traders respond to the call of our political leader and representative, who is considered to be our Governor, the traders would disperse throughout Anambra State. This does not imply that Lagos' markets will close—never. Other traders from the Southeast and other parts of Nigeria will fill the void left by these traders and carry on with their enterprises because life abhors vacuums.

Consider Chukwuma and Sons Motor Spare Parts, which is well-known in the Lagos motor spare parts market, packing up to return home to Anambra to establish itself due to a disagreement with his landlord. Extend this to all his Anambra co-traders who left home to compete with the business needs of a megacity like Lagos; all will relocate their stores back home merely to serve Professor Charles Soludo, CFR's ego call. Will such an exit and move shut down the Lagos spare parts market or other businesses controlled by Anambra traders?

This isn't about the security worry that has dominated this space since the Governor's rash call, but rather the economic sense that such a call makes for the Governor.

Obviously, the Lagos market will continue to flourish and benefit those who are prepared, simply because Lagos has reached a level that neither envy nor prejudice can demolish. Lagos flourishes in business due to its size and strategic location in the country today. The average Anambra man or woman, like other ethnic groups in Lagos, benefits from the large market and demands that Lagos provides; asking them to relocate home would not shut down Lagos State, which is destined to grow even more; rather, remittances from Lagos to Anambra will suffer because the market does not exit in Anambra State as it does in Lagos.

No one would travel to your hideout in search of you; kindly perish the thought that consumers would come to Anambra to buy from Anambra traders if they needed the commodity. Those who are available will take over their demands while you perish at home.

Those masturbating over the statement and calling for 'relocation' clearly do not grasp Governor Chukwuma Soludo's gaffe. It's fine to encourage investors to consider your state as a new investment destination for a variety of reasons; anyone would do so; however, capitalizing on the reported spat between some Igbo traders and their host to now ask your brothers and sisters to return home and relocate their businesses so you can collect more taxes even when the market is not available is completely absurd.

I might be wrong; perhaps Charles Soludo, the much-talked-about economic titan, made a different call from my understanding and illustration, which I would ask him to buttress further so ranks like us would understand better. If not, then we voted for a clown as Governor who doesn't understand change and narratives in the global economy.

Anyone at this age still asking Igbos to return home is simply an enemy within who doesn't desire progress for our people and homeland. We must purge ourselves of whatever's left of the 1967 civil war and bury this victimhood mentality so we can tap into the opportunities for which nature has availed us as indigenous people of present-day Nigeria.

I would not fault the call by Dim Odimegwu Ojukwu in the 1960s; a lot has changed since then and lessons have been learned, which Dim confessed to before his transition to the great beyond. The first call was a mistake, and another would be a disaster. We must seek working political solutions to our present-day challenges, if any.

If Charles Soludo had traveled to Lagos State with other Southeast Governors to meet with their counterparts at the Alausa Government House to discuss challenges being faced by Igbo traders in the state, positives would have been garnered and long-term solutions to the differences would have been discussed and implemented, but instead, he left Awka through Umueri Airport only to call a town hall meeting for Anambra traders to boycott Lagos and relocate their businesses home as that would be the only way to resolve the differences.

They're everywhere, distorting the 'Aku Luo Unọ' philosophy, which loosely translates to remittances back home rather than business relocation to hideouts where no one will see them for patronage and consumption.

They were made rich by the markets in Lagos, not the other way around, and you are asking them to relocate back home, Aren't you silly? I have always held the view that the Igbos, who are sojourners and traditional traders by nature, benefit more from Nigeria's unity and complexity than any other ethnic group. Our ability to live and do business anywhere gives us unrestricted access to the vast market size of the nation, and anyone urging us to return home is simply a household enemy. Instead of making ridiculous ego calls, our governors should be talking to their counterparts across host states about our protection and equal treatment which is often the issue.

If you leave, believe me the state will find a better use for those space, land space is very expensive in Lagos now. Other Nigerians will easily replace you, the state will even have an opportunity to develop those markets to proper standards and make more money.

You need Lagos, Lagos don't need you. If you think am lying try and see, the state will be very happy if you leave, because you are creating space for more development, those market do not fit Lagos state mega city plan.

Business is not emotion. You stay where profits is living

However lgbos are hearing the SW loud and clear. I know it's a matter of time. Thinking is already changing.

If l can do it home why Lagos. If l don't have an option l will endure the insults till later.

Soludo should keep improving infrastructure and push against those enemies ( state actors) keeping SE insecured

OP, do you know what branches mean in business? Like having Head Office in Lagos because of the port and branches in other Southeast States or designating Lagos as a branch office instead of the head office.

One thing this guy doesn't know is that, if Anambra people move in droves to the south east, it will affect the population of Lagos to an extent, which reduces the huge market that Lagos is.
If the other south easterners relocate to the south east, it will further reduce the market pull of Lagos, thus making it less lucrative for business establishments to set up.

If the SSners in Lagos also move their businesses to the SS, Lagos will immediately revert to Abeokuta, with many federal investments.
The gravitational pull of Lagos, as a business capital will be gone for good.

Of course, we all know the guy is a hireling of Sanwolu and Tinubu, who want to avoid any backlash following the xenophobia and tribalism that has been introduced in the Lagos political arena.

If Anambra people heed the call, it is likely other southeasterners will follow suit.

While I am not a fan of Soludo, following his anti-Obi rants over the past few months, one thing I know is that Soludo will be wise enough to develop a space or a city, possibly even a coastal city at Oseakwa, that can comfortably host a seaport, allowing the traders to bring their goods directly into Anambra.

I haven't seen or read the small prints of the Soludo call, but I will advice that he encourages Anambrarians to move their HQs to the southeast, thus ensuring that quite a good chunk of their tax responsibilities, are paid into the Anambra state government coffers. They can still maintain satellite shops in Lagos.

it’s funny when people that doesn’t even have a pin in Lagos be talking as if they even matter atall as far as Lagos is concerned.you will never see their main actors and business men engage in silly arguments like this but only the gatemen and apprentists be talking they way their reasoning is.
Igbos free to relocate to the SE but they should carry the Lagos waters and the land boaders along too, clowns.those of them that will be going to anambra also have gully erosion as an export commodity.

The market is in Lagos because of population. If millions of lgbos leave lagos to the east, every business in Lagos will feel it. Even banks with thousands of branches will shut down so many.

What are you people still waiting for then? Just move at once.

The ball is in your court to have everything you seek even Biafra! When you moved during June 12 crisis, no single fellow begged you to come back. Just move and stay back and let us rest. The pressure you're putting on SW infrastructure and allocations is extremely too high. Leave and let our youths have space please!

Dear Uloka Chibuike, Gov. Soludo didn't call for boycott of Lagos. He was only asking ndi Anambra to come home and invest to improve the economy of their state. The Aku luo uno and Think-home philosophies were advocated by successive governors of Anambra State. So, this call for investment in Anambra State precedes Gov. Soludo's administration and will persist even after him. Anambra State needs to grow its micro-economy by encouraging establishment of businesses to create jobs and of course pay taxes.

I read this and it seems to say "Igbos cannot do without Lagos". This is a very dangerous mindset to approach particularly with what those who claim to own Lagos did in the last elections where Igbos were told to their face that they have no stake in Lagos

Lets get one thing clear, there is nothing like 'one Nigeria' and this is proved time and time again with every election cycle where Igbos are disenfranchised in Lagos, told they are visitors and warned not to part of the political process in Lagos. How can a person be a visitor in his own country?

So it has become very important for all Igbos to treat Lagos as nothing more a "place of business", but not home. Go to Lagos, make your money legit, invest the excess back home

Do not wait until the person claiming to own Lagos comes to chase you out before you realise there is nothing like 'one Nigeria'

Do you even know Lagos have been prospering before Nigeria was even created? Whether any group of people choose to leave Lagos or not, the city will prosper

Igbos are part of what made Lagos a bubbling metropolitan city that is a fact.
If Igbos leave Lagos, the city will keep on prospering because of Tinubu and his boys lovely plans for the city. The city was bubbling before the Igbos arrive and will keep on bubbling if they leave so far the state is rule by visionary and intelligent people like Tinubu.

Only a civil war in Lagos can stop Lagos from prospering at this stage

it’s funny when people that doesn’t even have a pin in Lagos be talking as if they even matter atall as far as Lagos is concerned.you will never see their main actors and business men engage in silly arguments like this but only the gatemen and apprentists be talking they way their reasoning is.
Igbos free to relocate to the SE but they should carry the Lagos waters and the land boaders along too, clowns.those of them that will be going to anambra also have gully erosion as an export commodity.

Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I feel your pain but no thanks we are leaving your slum city Lagos for our so called mud. So attacking Igbo and destroying their property is not enough for you . Dude go and bring the Chinese to replace the Igbo as your backyard thinking Lagos leaders have been pustulating

Hahah...but the city was also bubbling before Tinubu and his boys came there...

Some of us were born in Lagos, decades before Tinubu left Irabiji in far away Osun to come to Lagos.

Is Tinubu the only governor of Lagos state?

So what are you saying?

What are you people still waiting for then? Just move at once.

The ball is in your court to have everything you seek even Biafra! When you moved during June 12 crisis, no single fellow begged you to come back. Just move and stay back and let us rest. The pressure you're putting on SW infrastructure and allocations is extremely too high. Leave and let our youths have space please!

How can they move at once, when the Lagos state government is paying millions encouraging people not to leave Lagos.

This article is a case in point.

The city was dead before Asiwaju and his boys started reviving the city

Lagos was competing with the likes of Warri, PH, Kano and Kaduna before, but now, Lagos State is miles ahead of those other State.

If you truly live in Lagos before the arrival of Asiwaju and his boys, you should know this

You talk as if the population of igbos in Lagos is like 10 million

Do you even know Lagos have been prospering before Nigeria was even created? Whether any group of people choose to leave Lagos or not, the city will prosper

Yes it was prospering because it was a cosmopolitan city from the beginning...

Now you want only Yorubas there...how will it continue to grow.

You have never maintained any of your cities from Ibadan to Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Akure...etc, so how will you sustain Lagos?

The northerners don't build anywhere they live..just like you Yorubas don't develop anywhere you live...Only the Igbos do that throughout Nigeria...and you lots envy them for that.

...so you will go and import the Chinese cheesy cheesy cheesy

The writer of this senseless article is indeed a FOOL. The call by Soludo is indeed a smart idea whose time has come. Soludo didn't ask all Igbos or Anambra people to return, he said big producers, importers and distributors. FYI, people from all over Nigeria and beyond have been coming to the East to buy goods even though most buy from Lagos. By making East the hub, most of them will now order from places like Onitsha, Aba and Nnewi.

More jobs will be created in the East.
More revenue will be generated etc.

Continue deceiving yourself...

Lagos has been what it it before those gang came to Lagos from Osun, Kwara, Ekiti and Ondo states...

What single structure did Tinubu add to central Lagos order than the recent rail?

See pic of Lagos, before they were born...in their respective states.

Lagos State is not made up of Central Lagos or whatever you call it.

Show me the Pictures of Lekki, Ajah, Sangotedi, Ikorodu, Epe before the arrival of Asiwaju and his Boys.

Asiwaju and his boys made Lagos what it is today.

Delta/Warri do not have capable guys like Asiwaju and his boys, that's why the city of Warri is dead and can't compete with the City of Lagos

Hope you know the City of Warri and Lagos is on the same level before? Or you wan argue this known fact?

Gbagada of the 1970's,80's and 90's can't compete with the present day Gbagada.

You can start showing me pictures of the old gbagada make we compare

Lagos is at this level because of Asiwaju and his boys
