President of the United States, Joe Biden, has raised the minimum wage of those working on federal contracts to $15 per hour which is equivalent to N6,750 at the parallel market exchange rate of N450 per dollar.

However, Nigerians have taken to their social media spaces to express their thought regarding the news as minimum wage per month for workers in the African country is N30,000 which is equivalent to $66, a paltry sum hardly enough for a Nigerian to survive a month, not with the rising food prices in the West African country

Sports / Tottenham Sacked Mourinho Amids Fears 10 Players Could Dump Club This Summer by 774ngr: 6:20pm On Apr 21, 2021
According to Eurosport, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy fired Jose Mourinho because he was concerned that up to ten first-team players would want to leave this summer if he stayed in charge.

After 17 months in charge of the north London club, Mourinho was sacked on Monday.

Levy reportedly made the decision to avoid losing his ‘dream team’ of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Gareth Bale at the end of the season.

Spurs are desperate to hold onto striker Kane, but the England captain has already drawn a lot of attention. The player has said that he will not make a decision until the conclusion of the Euro 2020 tournament.

Despite Alli’s lack of form in the last two seasons, Levy is a major fan of the midfielder. Alli had a tumultuous relationship with Mourinho this season, making only two league starts and being left out of the squad entirely for seven games between October and December.

Bale, who joined on loan from Real Madrid last month, has raised concerns about his chances of signing a permanent contract with the club at the end of the season.

Under Mourinho, the Welsh winger only played six league games and was used more regularly in the Europa League.

Mourinho had also frozen out midfielder Harry Winks, who had only made two league appearances since the end of January.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” – Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

The word peace in Hebrew is shalom, which speaks of wholeness; nothing missing and nothing broken.

When God secured us in Jesus, and gave us the comforter, He ensured that we get everything we need in full. Everything including good health, security, good conditions, success, comfort, happiness, wellness, and a sound mind. It reaffirms that everything is alright, it gives a sense of well-being, and relieves our minds off stress. It assures us we will come out of any circumstance unharmed. It is a picture that shows the clarity of how our soul and mind can knit together in harmony, fulfil purpose and be satisfied.

Whatever has been lost, Jesus (the Word) can restore and fill the space. Whatever was broken, He can fix and give speed to overtake.

Preye Odede brings you the wholeness that is in Jesus in this new sound “Nothing Missing.”

The single was produced by Paul Piano, for Script Music. The video was directed by Akin Alabi.

Nairaland / General / Petrol Queues Resurface In Abuja Over Price Hike, Scarcity Speculation by 774ngr: 4:26pm On Apr 20, 2021
Long queues have reappeared in Abuja for the purchase of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), a month after normalcy returned to the area.

The long queues returned to retail outlets in Wuse, Gwarimpa, Wuye and Kubwa expressway on Tuesday while other outlets were not selling the product.

A private car owner, Mrs Halima Umar, told NAN she does not know the reason for the queue, adding that government should put measures in place to bring sanity to the oil sector.

“They encourage black market and most times their fuel is bad. We don’t need to always face this problem in buying petrol every month, we need a permanent solution,” Umar said.

A taxi driver, Mr Emmanuel Offor, said he has been at the petrol station since 8:00 a.m. and has yet to buy petrol as of 10:30 a.m.

“This is my source of livelihood; my family depends on this daily and this fuel problem will slow my productivity and lower my return for the day.

“I am scared of buying black market because last month I did, they sold bad fuel for me and it spoilt my fuel pump and I spent more in fixing it,” Offor said.

A manager at one of the filling stations, who pleaded anonymity, said there was enough fuel on ground, people are just panic buying

Foreign Affairs / Somali, AU Forces Arrest Al-shabab Fighters In Joint Operation by 774ngr: 11:04am On Apr 20, 2021
Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission (AMISOM) forces arrested several al-Shabab fighters in a joint operation in southern Somalia on Sunday, the AU mission said on Monday.

AMISOM said its Burundian contingent based at Gololey joined the operation, flushing out militants hiding in the Sayga forest.

“A number of al-Shabab fighters were captured and handed over to the Somali police for further investigations,” AMISOM said in a statement.

The operation was aimed at ensuring free movement of Somali people on the main supply route of Mogadishu-Jowhar, the statement said.

Al-Shabab, which has been seeking to topple the government, has continued to restrict the movement of people and control supply routes to most of the recovered areas, according to Somali authorities and humanitarian partners.

AU troops have been conducting regular patrols and escorting vehicles carrying humanitarian relief aid and participated in combat operations against al-Shabab to secure main supply routes.

There have been clashes in southern and central Somalia between government forces and al-Shabab since the militants were chased out of the capital Mogadishu in August 2011 by allied forces.

Science/Technology / Nasa’s Mars Helicopter Succeeds In Historic First Flight by 774ngr: 8:39pm On Apr 19, 2021
NASA’s tiny helicopter Ingenuity successfully flew on Mars early Monday, marking the first powered flight on another world and dubbed “our Wright Brothers’ moment” by a top engineer.

The four-pound (1.8-kilogram) rotorcraft took off at 3:34 a.m. Eastern Time (0734 GMT), hovered 10 feet (three meters) above the Martian surface for 39.1 seconds, and then came to a stop.

The autonomous flight’s data and photos were sent 173 million miles (278 million kilometers) back to Earth, where they were received by NASA’s network of ground antennas and processed about three hours later.

Engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, where the project had been designed and planned for the past six years, were tensely watching their screens.

They erupted in applause when one of them read off a list of accomplishments made by Ingenuity, concluding, “Ingenuity has completed its first flight — the first flight of a powered aircraft on another world.”

Ingenuity easily returned a black-and-white snapshot of its bug-like shadow cast on the surface from its downward-pointing navigation camera

Nairaland / General / Many Abducted Girls With Boko Haram Pregnant, Nursing Babies -escapee by 774ngr: 2:43pm On Apr 19, 2021
A student of the College of Business and Management Studies in Konduga, Juliana Christopher, who was kidnapped by Boko Haram, has said she saw many Chibok girls in the insurgents’ camp.

She added that many underage girls were either pregnant or nursing children belonging to the insurgents.

Christopher told The PUNCH in an interview that she spent three weeks in Boko Haram camp after the insurgents, who were dressed in military uniforms, stormed her school in Borno State and abducted her.

She explained that after she and her colleagues were kidnapped by the insurgents, they took them into the forest, where she saw other victims who were pregnant and nursing babies of the Boko Haram insurgents.

She said, “On reaching their camp, we met many young girls there and the whole place was in disarray. It was in 2014 and I was in the Boko Haram camp for three weeks. We met Chibok girls in the camp. While in the camp, I saw so many small girls, who were kidnapped. Some were being molested.

“Some were carrying children, while others were pregnant for the Boko Haram insurgents. It was a disgusting thing. Fortunately for me and some other girls, we escaped from the forest and found our way back to Chibok.”

She explained that her father took ill shortly after she was kidnapped, adding that efforts to rescue him proved abortive.

She said, “On getting to Chibok, I found the whole community in a state of confusion; so, I asked after my parents and was told that my father took ill when he heard about my abduction and my mother took him to the hospital in Maiduguri. I set out to go and look for them in Maiduguri, but I could not go far because the road was blocked and no movement was allowed, except for military vehicles; in that process, my father died.

Politics / Pantami, Failure Of Intelligence Leading To National Security Crises by 774ngr: 6:32pm On Apr 17, 2021
was reported late last year that the United Arab Emirates jailed no fewer than six Nigerians for various links with terror groups in the period spanning the onset of Boko Haram into national and international limelight till the period they were arrested. The most overlooked fact was that one of the persons jailed was a government official. That was a slap on the faces of Nigerians, and an even bigger indictment on the Nigerian government.

This draws some parallels to the Pantami’s case currently making the rounds. In a video and audio recordings, media houses who dare be different (Gazette Nigeria and Sahara Reporters) have established the fact that the minister of communication and digital economy, Sheikh Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has terror sympathies for international jihadists groups AL Qaeda and the Taliban by virtue of recordings from his preaching in North Eastern Nigeria in 2006.

Pantami’s current travails mirror in great length the status of Nigeria as a failed state. For those who would disagree, there’s no sane clime where an Islamist who was fired from his teaching job by a university in Northern Nigeria for incendiary teachings, who also obtained a PhD from a university in Saudi Arabia known as a hotbed for Salafist and Wahhabist recruiters, would go on to hold a sensitive position as the minister of communication who by virtue of that position, holds the database of an ethnically diverse country as Nigeria. The security breach in which the State Security Service (or DSS) didn’t see, or saw but failed to flag as a going concern during his confirmation hearing at the senate in 2019 raises important points.

First, does the fact that Pantami’s predecessor, Adebayo Shittu was also a radical Islamist who was accused of instigating a religious riot in his home state of Oyo in 2001 not sufficient grounds enough to strike out his nomination as communications minister?

First time can be excused as a mistake. The second time–the fact that another terrorist sympathizer who believes that Osama Bin Laden is a better Muslim than he is, who also longed for the day of 9/11 styled jihad in Nigeria–is definitely not a mistake. The DSS not coming alive at one of the most important times of their existence calls into question their attitude in handling sensitive issues that concern national security.

Fayose said: “If governor Makinde, a first-term two-year-old governor is parading characters like this it simply shows the kind of people behind him.

“This is shameful for our party and I take responsibility. In the 21 century, thuggery is shameful for our party.

“Remember, I was in Ondo and this same person attacked me and I told Governor Makinde, so I am glad the whole world is seeing this.

“Governor Makinde looks quiet but deadly.”

Business / China Fines Alibaba $2.8 Billion For Anti-competitive Tactics by 774ngr: 4:09pm On Apr 13, 2021
Alibaba Group, the world’s biggest e-commerce company, was fined 18.3 billion yuan ($2.8 billion) by Chinese regulators on Saturday for anti-competitive tactics, as the ruling Communist Party tightens control over fast-growing tech industries.

Party leaders worry about the dominance of China’s biggest internet companies, which are expanding into finance, health services and other sensitive areas. The party says anti-monopoly enforcement, especially in tech, is a priority this year.

Alibaba was fined for “abusing its dominant position” to limit competition by retailers that use its platforms and hindering “free circulation” of goods, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced. It said the fine was equal to 4% of its total 2019 sales of 455.712 billion yuan ($69.5 billion).

“Alibaba accepts the penalty with sincerity and will ensure its compliance with determination,” the company said in a statement. It promised to “operate in accordance with the law with utmost diligence.”

The move is a new setback for Alibaba and its billionaire founder, Jack Ma, following a November decision by regulators to suspend the stock market debut of Ant Group, a finance platform spun off from the e-commerce giant. It would have been the world’s biggest initial public stock offering last year.

Ma, one of China’s richest and most prominent entrepreneurs, disappeared temporarily from public view after criticizing regulators in a November speech.

The Deputy Governor, Dr Sama’ila Yombe-Dabai, who signed on behalf of the state government, said that the signing of the MoU followed the suspension of Azman Air operations nationwide.

“Gov. Atiku Bagudu gave the directive that the government should liaise with the Ministry of Works and Transport to engage the services of another airline to begin immediate operations in the state.

“Max Air was considered and chosen due to its track record of service delivery in the aviation industry,” Yombe-Dabai said.

Also signing on behalf of the airline, the Regional Manager of Max Airline, Alhaji Suleiman Arome, reaffirmed the commitment of the company towards ensuring effective service delivery.

“With their scheduled operations, we will eventually have six to seven days in a week flight at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Ambursa,” Chika-Ladan said.
