Should President Tinubu Resign As The ECOWAS Chairman? by FreedomfromtheT: 11:29am On Aug 11, 2023
Nigeria's president Bola Tinubu is the current ECOWAS chairman.
Nigeria is s major player in ECOWAS.
ECOWAS authority of heads of state and government wants to use force ie go to war against the Nigerien junta.
President Tinubu asked for approval from the Nigerian Senate.
The Nigerian Senate says no.
The Muslim northern neighbours of Niger Republic keep chorusing no.
Tinubu has legitimacy issue and desperately wants to please the US and France perhaps to gain international acceptance.
On the other hand, Tinubu can't afford to displease the Muslim North - not at this auspicious time.
There may be rerun in the presidential election.
Even if the court ruling or rerun favours Tinubu, he will still need the North for his likely second term bid.
Tinubu thus finds himself in a very difficult situation akin to being between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Should Tinubu then resign as ECOWAS chairman and leave the rest of the ECOWAS members who are interested to go to war against Niger without Nigeria being involved?

If him resign now, shae una no go start mock am? Because most Nigerians don't even know what's good for them.
Sanctions and Dialogue should be the option not War.

Meaning that there is no need for him to resign?

NO. HE SHOULD TONE DOWN HIS RHETORIC AND ALWAYS BEAR IN MIND THAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DEMOCRAT NOT AN AUTOCRAT. NIGERIA IS HIS FIRST PRIORITY AND ON THAT HE BECOMES ECOWAS' CHAIRMAN.

He wants power by all means, he has stolen and grabbed it by all means, he should never resign o.
Resignation should not be an option for him. As he is committed to attaining power using any means, he should persist without retreat.
We cannot accept resignation from him unless he resigned totally and give his stolen mandate to the legitimate winner.
ECOWAS is not Lagos state.

Tinubu should pull out of any military intervention by ECOWAS...
He should come out and tell Nigerians he is not in support of using military...

ECOWAS have seen many coups before and never urged war. The only person urging ECOWAS to war is the ECOWAS chairman.

The ECOWAS chairman needs the war more than ECOWAS, or the people of Niger they seek to liberate!

I think the northern Muslims have been loudest in shouting 'NO' to military offensive in Niger Republic.

What should be checked is what is causing the military incursions..

Alassane Ouattara, 81, president of Ivory Coast, has been in power since 2010. Under him, the country's constitution was amended, which allowed him to still remain in power beyond the time allowed by the Ivorian constitution.

But I learnt that the same Ouattara is opposed to the military take over in Niger Republic.

You still don't get it
He sent Gen Abdulsalami and Sultan of Sokoto to talk to them. These are prominent people in the North whose territory extend to Niger republic. They didn't even give them audience.
Mention people they will listen to if they can't even give audience to this two
This act is international best practices in conflicts resolution. Moreover decision to use military is not President Tinubu singular decision to make.
