Most schools would mandate the kids to come back for the extra murals, which of course leaves the parents no choice |

You mean that the people who designed the academic calender are stupid. The children need rest as well as the teachers. Overloading their little brain is not right. During our own time, long vacation was used to travel to the city for holidays for those in the rural areas and for those in the cities, it is time for them to travel to their villages for holiday as well. It is also time to help the parents at home and do some other extra curricular activities. During our time we never had holiday lessons neither did we have after school lessons yet many excelled in their chosen field, so what had changed? Even after school lesson is not necessary if the teachers know what they are doing. They use the school official hours to do their private business and charge students fees for after school lessons to teach what they should have taught them during school hours. Teachers please allow the students breath!!!! Jewessgratitud3: 1 Like |

The first week he stayed at home, he played football with other kids in the street and came home with 3 leg injuries. Holiday classes works for us now. Just 3hrs in the day is not much. |

This makes a lot of sense, couldn't agree with you more. I've make this argument many times in the past. We travel to enjoy our holidays with our grandparents during our own time and we still earn excellent grades in school. Oduok: |

Solsix: 1. And how do you know he hasn't "born"? 2. He is not stopping any parent from sending their children to "summer lessons" but only airing his view which the bulk of respondents on this thread totally agree with him. Why take it personal? 3. It is called HOLIDAYS for a reason! Let our kids breathe abeg! This ia why education in the developed world is way ahead of ours because a 5 year old in Nigeria is been forced to know the multiplication table while the 5 year old daughter of a family friend that moved to canada last year went back to coloring and painting. The difference is this, our education fosters ROTE LEAENING while the other engenders CREATIVITY! The world needs CREATIVE THINKERS not ROBOTS! 3 Likes |

BOSSkesh: Leaving ur kids at home is even d worst.Remember we are in d era where every one is carrying big smart phone with all sorts of naughty stuff in it.Kids can fall prey to all sorts of abuse especially from today's teenagers with raging hormone.Cases of teenagers showing kids porn videos are rampant esp when their parents leave them at home and leave for work . Except u take them to ur place of work, It's safer leaving kids to stay with fellow kids under the care of a trained teacher than leaving them at the mercy of neighbours or to be wandering from one part of d streets to another during d holidays. My dear. today's parenting is not easy. . 1 Like |

Like I told my students that I don't see reasons why some of them are coming for summer lesson as they didn't have challenges with their academics from previous session. I only expect students that have challenges with their academics to come |

Op.calm down and stop dabbling into What u know nothing about. First, holiday coaching is to prepare the children for the forthcoming academic session. Holiday lesson is for a.month so the first four topics of the new session is taught to the children so that when they resume it's easy to take off. Also, the holiday coaching is cheap and the parents see it as a way of getting the children occupied instead of disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood. Holiday lessons go as low as 1,000 for a month. Which skill acquisition centre will charge as low as that? Which instrument learning centre will charge u as low as that? Which tailor or hairdresser will collect a ridiculous amount of money from u to allow your child learn for a month? What you don't know is beyond you. Though you have some points but let's learn to be calming down. I come in peace. |

Furthermore, the holiday lesson is structured and flexible in some schools. Monday's to Thursdays. 9am till 1pm and there is room for practical activities on Wednesdays. That's in my own school though. |

Oduok:best post I e read this year, OP shares same thought with me, even the normal evening lesson that schools conduct after 2pm normal closing time, my children won't smell it. If a child stays in class from 8am to 2pm, whatever you're teaching the child beyond that time is just a waste of time cos the brain needs to hybernate and start again. I will register them to learn skills and afford them opportunities to enhance and discover talent 1 Like |
