oh no. Naija people no get vision. Due yourself a favor and google electric vehicle companies in US. Infact some states are beginning to phase out ICE . Which translate to less and less demand for oil.I see Nigeria become a desolate country by 2050.If you have the means to japa please do but in the right way.
By 2050, the Nigerian Economy will be one of the Top 10 Largest Economy in the World

Because there is no subsidy anymore, the NNPC would have to search for money for repairs and maintenance of the refineries. And at the end of the day, all that costs money, and all that would be added to the cost paid by end consumers.

^^^
undecided

This is why I described you on another thread as a one trick pony. This thread isn't about the merits or defects of fuel import subsidies. That argument has been settled. So why bring it up? undecided

nairalanda1:
The potential good news is that the refineries would work this time. No subsidy, no free money. Anyone doing sabotage is affecting NNPC's ability to make profits, and by extension, their salaries.

^^^
undecided

What do you mean by 'potential'? You have built a brand on this platform with your homilies about the evils of fuel import subsidies. In line with your wishes, the market has been deregulated and price controls have been removed. So why this subtle insertion of disclaimers like you just did there? Just what do you mean by 'potential'? undecided

nairalanda1:
Also, it would be cheaper to buy in Nigeria...than it would be importing from abroad with scarce forex. But fuel would, as the experts say, cost just N70 less than the current price. It won't suddenly drop to N200 or below

^^^
undecided

This assertion by so called experts undecided that it costs N70 Naira to move a litre of fuel from Europe to Nigeria has not been given the scrutiny it deserves. It makes one wonder...if it costs so little to ship fuel (on a per litre basis), why then does it cost so much (about 1,900 Euros or roughly 1.5m Naira @ official exchange rates) to ship a saloon car by container from Belgium to Apapa? A litre is roughly equivalent to a kilogram...and a 2020 Honda Accord weighs about 1,600kg. So...by the logic of these 'experts' it should cost about 112,000 Naira to ship that Honda Accord to Lagos, right?

Something is not quite right here. Who are these "experts" and what are their credentials? What economies of scale are at play in shipping refined fuel - that don't apply to other products?

For nearly a decade, some of us have asked for the cost profile of producing and refining a litre of fuel in this country. An answer has never been provided. You rail against 'cheap' fuel but you have never told us what 'cheap' is. You can only talk about 'cheap' (whatever that means) once cost of production is known. I am asking you a direct question here: how much does it cost to refine a litre of petrol here in Nigeria?

The question on how much it would cost to refine one liter of fuel in Nigeria would be answered when the refineries come back.

Also, my comment was not an argument about subsidy, but a response to the (unspoken) assumption that when fuel refineries come back, we would buy fuel at N200 per liter. Even at N40 per liter. (Lol.).

Good afternoon.

P.S

Don't mock me again. Thank you.

This is no response. If you cannot provide the cost of production of a litre of locally refined fuel, then you don't have an argument. It means all your 'lectures' about the evils of subsidies (from the 1970s when this country's refineries were actually producing something) are not based on evidence. undecided

nairalanda1:

An unspoken assumption made by who? If your comment or argument wasn't about subsidy then why explicitly mention subsidy...not just once, but twice? undecided

nairalanda1:

P.S

Don't mock me again. Thank you.

If you're this sensitive then perhaps you shouldn't take part in discussions like these. I have kept it civil, even though I disagree quite strongly with some parts of your argument (or lack thereof). If you can't take a challenge to your position then perhaps you should avoid topics like this.

Good evening.
