All the 20 Local Government Chairmen in Ogun State on Tuesday night besiege the Office of the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun to ask for his forgiveness on behalf of one of them, Chairman, Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, who accused the governor of withholding LGs’ allocations.

In a dramatic turn of event, the Council prostrated and begged the governor for forgiveness.

The Chairmen led by the ALGON Chairman, Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, stormed the Governor’s office in Abeokuta, and begged for forgiveness.

A short clip of the meeting which has gone viral showed the ALGON begging for forgiveness on behalf of his colleagues including Wale Adedayo, who wrote the petition.

Gazal said, “Your Excellency, we have come here to beg you as a father that you are, as a father of all in the state, we want you to forgive us.

“Your Excellency, if you don’t forgive us, who do we run to? So, on behalf of all of us, I am tendering this apology and in particular, on behalf of Wale Adedayo,”
Emilola-Gazal said, and subsequently prostrated alongside others, before the Governor.

Responding, Governor Abiodun in his remarks declared that he had always carried out his responsibilities as the Governor with “every sincerity of purpose.”

Recall that Adedayo had accused the governor of withholding the LGs’ allocations.

Adedayo lamented that LG Chairmen had been unable to execute projects in the last two years, and asked former Governor Olusegun Osoba to urgently wade in, and convince Abiodun to allow “the statutory Federal Allocation to Local Governments in Ogun State to reach each of them as envisaged by the 1999 Constitution.”

The Council boss also petitioned the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), calling for the investigation of the governor over alleged diversion of local government funds.

According to him, Abiodun has not paid a dime to Local government accounts as Federal allocation in the last two years.

This is the mental slavery associated with constitutional governance in the black man's world. Instead of the ICPC, EFCC, CCB, NPF, NFIU, and even the presidency to immediately swing into action to investigate the claim made by the now non-cooperative LGA chairman, stooges have gone cap-in-hand for a self ego massaging and appeasement jamboree.

Now the alleged criminal fugitive running from his dirty past in the US will gloat over all of them as a demi-god. Pronto! The lone ranger puritist LGA chair will be confined to the dustbin of political history like Jubril of the infamous 2019 budget padding scandal.

.Then corruption have won again. These are the things that are fueling the current political unrest across the African continent. Useless tyrannical leaders.

Elected Chairmen o, as in people elected into offices like the Governor himself.

Not caretaker chairmen o.

The Governor should be embarrassed by the video. This portrays him in bad light, as an emperor the governors have always been accused to be.

The show of shame again justifies the need for LG Autonomy.

In Nigeria, if you can't cheat your way to the top, you beg until you get there, then you cheat. Just like Mary did to Lord of Lemon

Nigeria is not a normal place honestly. I thought local governments are meant to be a separate and independent arm of government. Why this show of shame. Gosh.

What a shameful scenes!

An avoidable shame that democratically elected Local Government Chairmen shouldn't witness...

As the Governor was elected, so are these chairmen were elected..

If they have full autonomy and their allocations are paid directly into Local Government accounts...

Will this happen

The State Governors knows this, hence they blocked the LG Autonomy bills at the State Assemblies..just to ensure these local government chairmen remains their puppets.

What a shame!!!

Even as a core omoluabi, I say this is madness. Who does this governor thinks he is. This is the reason I am strongly against restructuring to States. These governors are disciples of the devil and are greatly wicked. More power to the governors is equal to killing the people. I always prefer to deal with the FG, where no one will witch-hunt me.

Apparently there's no independence for the LG. The LGs need to work. Its one of the only ways forward.
Sadly, the system already largely subjugated the LG under the state government - an anomaly.
Its tragic that many don't even expect or demand much from the State governors
