My people! 90 likes for what? The mentioned named, Mfawa Abam, is a career diplomat not a political appointee. He is actually the same foreign service batch as Kunle Adeleke, Tinubu's chief of protocol. He did not occupy any ambassadorial position for 10 years, so that's a big lie. This is just the comment of someone ignorant of the professional trajectory of career diplomats. The guy will go back to Abuja as all Nigerian diplomats do after few years at a foreign mission. This is an expected and known development that comes as no shock to any diplomat, especially with an exchange of baton at Aso Rock BoldBrainz: 1 Like |

OK. To the guy angry at his uncle, calm down. Ideally, I feel a country should field no less than 80% career ambassadors as they possess the rudimentary training for such sensitive positions. And they are not politicians but civil servants so the idea that they should act like the regular senator etc is something I think is misplaced. Politicians have severely put a dent on the diplomatic service because as every government comes in, they use it as one of the key areas to satisfy political constituencies and what do they do, chug in untrained scallywags that lack the knowledge, experience and poise of a true diplomat. This has eroded this extremely noble profession. Just because some politicians hold the red passport don't mean they are the same with diplomats. Personally, I think lawmakers should not hold the diplomatic passport. I'm not sure if they do but I think I think I heard so. To the guy angry at his uncle, please note, I am not calling your uncle a bunkum o, but if he is a non-career diplomat that has enjoyed favour within the corridors of power and that made him a serial ambassador, I am OK with you pulling his heads off even though he really does not owe you anything. Next thing, they get there and behave like it is a ministry or governmental parastatal. The business of diplomacy vastly differs to the manner the regular inefficient government offices operate. Little wonder our embassies have become and quite sadly too, an extension of Nigeria's decadence. 1 Like |

They and the officials in the consulates monetize their position like other government officials in Nigeria. They take bad service to Western nations and just make the lives of Nigerian citizens difficult. Come to the Naija consulate in the USA and see how patrons curse being born in the country due to poor service, frustration, and the creation of new rules not on their website so they can send you to business centers they own right next to the consulate so they can further extort you. Bad Nigerian government extends overseas through the consulates. For instance, we have to fly to Atlanta from other states to be frustrated. They direct you to one of two (yes two) business centers next to the consulate, so you can see how profitable it is, for them to extort your their citizens. Meanwhile, top consulate officials are buying houses in the Atlanta area with cash. |

Shikena: Do I look to you like the kinda fellow who's too vacuous to know the conceptual differences between career Diplomats and Ambassadors? Apparently, you're the only one who's familiar with him but doesn't know that from the moment Mfawa Abam became the Head of Chancery, Embassy of Nigeria, Tel Aviv, Israel in 2003, he was practically considered the engine room of Nigeria's relations with Israel, in the corridors of Aso rock. The Ambassador in that case, only functioned as a figure head while enjoying the attendant privileges. It became the tradition for every other Nigerian Embassy he superitended in all other foreign countries, until he was subsequently named an Ambassador in December 2021. As far as everyone in Aso rock is concerned, Mfawa has been playing Ambassadorial roles since 2003, and he himself has jocularly boasted about it on a few occasions in the past. So me even insinuating that he has been an Ambassador for 10years, is an understatement in all honesty. |

BoldBrainz: Oh,ok. Head of Chancery is exclusive reserve for career diplomats. Ehn, no vex for him na... he is not supposed to be a politician (or at least, they should be apolitical), so your expectations may be too much for a diplomat. Just saying sha. |

I don't know how you look but glad you corrected yourself that he only became an ambassador in 2021, regardless of the jokes that are actually not peculiar to him. He is a career diplomat. BoldBrainz: |

jrusky:It seems to be as though this is a common behaviour amongst career ambassadors, oh. My late father who was ambassador to various countries and deputy High Commissioner to Canada from the 80s to the 90s , even serving under IBB's regime (I remember going to the villa with my mum and meeting Maryam Babangida self) We went to the same school as one of his daughter's (ABC academy, maitama) . Now back to the main point, my father was said to have been stingy to " all family and relatives of his and of my mum's " BUT he was known to give favours and contracts to outsiders of different tribes and ethnicities (especially Yorubas and people from the north and North Central). I can't still understand why my late father was like this. Even my mum was marginalized, as well as his two other wives. Big man , but with nothing to show for it, except old tales of how he sponsored useless ladies to school and other irresponsible behaviours that he showcased. So, it may be a habitual thing amongst men who have passed through the ministry of foreign affairs in Nigeria. I've heard this from other children of diplomats. Especially the older diplomats. |
