Another Drug Bust. Four Nigerians Arrested

http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Cocaine-worth-R5m-seized-in-Lonehill-20111017

Johannesburg - Four Nigerian nationals were arrested and cocaine with a street value of R5m confiscated in a raid on a Lonehill house in northern Johannesburg on Monday morning, police said.

The men were allegedly manufacturing cocaine inside the house, said Captain Pinky Tsinyane.

Police had received a tip-off from residents in the area who were suspicious about the activity at the house.

The house was raided at 04:00 on Monday after one of the men spotted the police and tried to run away, said Tsinyane.

All four would appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court later this week on charges of possession and dealing.

Another bust last month

http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Cocaine-worth-R2m-seized-in-Johannesburg-20110923

Johannesburg - Cocaine powder with a street value of R2m was seized and six people were arrested in Ridgeway south of Johannesburg on Friday, police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the Hawks and members of the dog unit arrested five Nigerian men and one South African woman at an upmarket complex around 06:00.

"Police acting on information raided the complex and found 3kg of cocaine powder hidden in the bathroom," said Dlamini.

It was suspected that the complex was being used as a distribution point and that the drug was manufactured elsewhere.

"Further investigation may lead police to a drug laboratory which is believed to be in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg."

Police also seized vehicle registration documents and passports believed to be fake.

The six people - all in their 30s - were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They face charges of dealing in drugs.

"More people may be arrested as investigations are continuing," said Dlamini.

Classic Nigerian xenophobia, you guys are your own worst enemy. Your nation is so developed and clean that you want to use 4 criminals from 1 out of 240 ethnic groups to tarnish the image of a nation. I think you should take your post-apartheid education and use it to calculate the net economic contribution of nigeria to your South Africa's economy. The biggest African Investor in your country is Nigeria. The largest single investment in your country was by a Nigerian (Dangote).

Well do you feel bigger and better now? I'm afraid painting Nigerians in a bad light will not retrieve the 90% of your land from the whites. It will not make your rugby team bleck. It will not make your cricket team bleck. It will not turn bleck south Africans from “workers who just buy” to “employers who manufacture”. It will not reduce the high level of AIDs, Rape and Homicide amongst the blecks. It won't teach Blecks how to stop being subservient slaves. It most certainly won't prevent the whites from treating Blecks as “you know what”.

Viva South Africa!

@Nolong Ting are you related to this criminals? Huh

Is that where your fuzzy logic ends? I have been following you guy's post, you seem to always highlight the crude behavior of a few to paint a whole bad. what about other Nigerians doing lots of positive things and contributing to your economy? You guys are simply carried away and shooting yourself in the foot. If the attitude of black south Africans towards their fellow African brothers continue .You may come to regret it bitterly in the future.

Nairaland got nothing to do with logics, its about tribal, religions and other countries bashing.
In this forum Nigerians hate South Africa and vice versa with South Africans. And I like it that way.

And here I am preaching Spirit of "Ubuntu", Africans, when are we gonna come to our senses?

Philosophy--- the study of general and fundamental problems.

The Chinese got Confucianism and to some extent Maoist Communism
Japanese -- Shintoism
Indians -- Hinduism
Most East Asians--- Buddhism

Arabs----Arab-ism----oh we have all seen how it played out in their revolution.

Persian philosophy(Modern day Iran)--- Zoroastrianism. They have been heavily influenced by Islamic Philosophy, but they still maintain their identity.

Jews---- Judaism, Zionism.

Westerners(Indigenous Europeans)wow they have got lots-------Socialism,Darwinism,Capitalism,Colon-ism, Neo-Colonialism, Conservatism,Existentialism,Imperialism, Individualism and other forms of ism's.

North America---- Pragmatism, Utter Capitalism, Libertarianism.

Africa---- Pan-African-ism, Black Nationalism--oh and it has since been fading away.

Ubuntunism or should we remove the foreign concept "ism" and simply call it the "Spirit of Ubuntu". See link below on Ubuntu. Sounds like a good idea to unite under one umbrella.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_%28philosophy%29 . We can expand on it and make it part and parcel of us.

Philosophers in the house. What do you think?

Akin Omotoso is one of the many Nigerian I know who does good in our country and South Africans love him for that. He makes good movies. Problem is that those who do good are out numbered by those who do bad, so we generalise according to the majority.

Arrest those mofo's, prosecute, sentence to jail, and finally deport them straight back to Murtala muhammed airport.

Disgraceful imbeciles.

Meanwhile RSA, if I enter you country I better not be harrassed by your customs because I am Nigerian otherwise I will raise Hell and report you guys straight to Mandela

Your above statistical analysis is incorrect and is based on a phenomena called stereotyping.

Ther are 150 millions nigerians on this planet.
Out of that number an estimated 10% or 15 million live outside of the country,
of that number another less than 1 million reside in South Africa

Of that number and to be generous, lets say 10% of that number( and thats an exaggeration) are criminals. that gives you < 100,000 unscrupulous people running around in a ina population size of 50 million people

Given the poulation size of Nigeria as wel,l would you call that a fair represnetation of the character of Nigerians.

pleae don't let your media keep decieving you. The british did that poo to you preceding the world cup.  Television is for entertainment and commercials

Hey guys, I could be coming to South Africa for a short course. I read and heard that being from other African country, you could be an easy targeted or butchered. Is this true?. I first opted for Capetown but due to time constraint I won't meet up. Now i am thinking of Newcastle, Kwazulu-natal where the course will be held next. How is it like over there, any tangible tips and cautionary tale would be highly appreciated.

Be careful when you are "in Location" areas and some dodgy areas in the main cities. Apart from that enjoy your self.

PS Strap up tight if you are going to play with those girls. Thats a must.

I'm so happy that you coming to South Africa. You'll definitely enjoy yourself, I don't know of anyone who has come to SA and left disappointed. But I know of many who have come to SA and left envious. If foreigners were being butchered I'm sure many people in this forum would be exposing and condemning my people the same way I did with this thread but all their doing is relying on past events to create current fear. They have no idea that many of their people are spending days queuing outside our home affairs department where they are trying to take advantage of the amnesty provided for the illegals. Our generous SA government is taking these illegals and giving them papers to make them legit so that they can find employment in the formal sector and stop doing crime. Do you see any South Africans complaining about that?
Re: Four Nigerians Arrested For Drugs In South Africa by paniki(m): 1:30am On Oct 18, 2011
@nolongthing just doesn't want to accept black progress in South Africa, he's forever talking about what white people own. What he must understand is that the agreement between the blacks and the whites after the end of apartheid was the whites shall keep all the wealth that they and their racist forefathers have created and that the blacks will concentrate on creating their own wealth with the help of the government. 17 years later, blacks have created massive wealth and progress continues. He must understand that black South Africans have vision, we are able to strategise, organise, plan and implement.

In 2008 we had an electricity problem which required serious attention. The attention was provided and now three years later our power producer Eskom is spending over R300billion/$43billion building 2 coal fired power stations, 2 wind farms and a solar project which once all complete by 2015 will have a combine generation capacity equal to 4 times what the whole of Nigeria produces. Of cause nolongthing will claim that the power plants were built by whites simply because he doesn't want to accept and believe that black man can make such gigantic progress.

This year alone South African National Roads Agency Limited(SANRAL) is spending R20billion/$3billion upgrading the national roads which were built by the whites long ago. Those roads in Nigeria were also built by the whites, why are they not being upgraded?

Thanks for taking the time to expatiate more . Individuals are different, people interpret things differently. Nevertheless, I couldn't understand the rumor about the butchering and so on. But I am aware that once you are deemed foreign, that you are easily stereotyped.

But all in all, South Africa seem like a beautiful place to do your thing and go. How far those Zulus in that natal area, I heard those guys can be something else, how is that true. I will be taking public transport everyday 20km to the campus, how safe is that? Anyways, don't mind my rambling, I am just trying to take precautionary measures as anyone would do when travel to a place he/she barely knows about.

As per your home affairs, they need to know who is worthwhile and who is not. You don't just give everyone visas without interviewing and scrutinizing their application well to know what they are going to do. That is one of the reasons some rugged guys troop to your country. This has also resulted to overtly generalization been exercised on Nigerians as a whole and other Africans.

I believe I am the best person to answer your question as a Nigerian living there. I am not sure what you mean by butchering  but I am here 10 years strong and I do not know of any one who has been butchered. Most of the violent crimes takes place in the townships ,you don’t have any business there so you are safe.

My wife is zulu and my best friend (Lungile) is zulu. I have never met kinder people. At first when you meet “some” of them they might just “shakara” you but just act cool and be respectful and you will blend in within a few minutes. The alleged Zulu aggression is also a stereotype!

The taxis (aka danfos) are just as Nigeria’s if you know what I mean. The taxi drivers can be rough sometimes but if you ever taken public transport in Nigeria , you should be fine. Whenever you are approaching your bus top ,just shout to the driver : “ Short left” . That means you want to stop at the next bus stop.

Don’t even talk about the home affairs. They are a useless bunch of idiots.

Thank you for your selfless input. You know, after the xenophobic attack on African immigrants in South Africa. Unfortunately, South Africa has come to be known as hostile to their African brothers, that is why the rumor of butchering spread like wildness. Sometimes the predicament one faces depends on the kind of life he/she conducts which is testament to those engaged in different activities there.

It is good to know that you are integrated well and have good relationships with the locals. Contrary to what some people think or say based on stereotypes, there are kind people and not so kind people everywhere, it all boils down to how respectfully one is and present himself. I absolutely understand your point. I went through that Sowetan websites you pasted and many of the comments there by the locals are grossly ignorant and very generic. It is a dangerous trend. You are doing a great job by countering their unbalanced reasoning and making them understand to judge one based on the content of their character and not on few bad apples from the country of origin.

Actually, I would have preferred a closer accommodation to the training center but the price on outskirt of Newcastle which is close to a township is tempting. The course will last for 4months, although there is an close to the training center,it is kinda expensive. What do you suggest?

Well, the home affairs and the Saps need to put on the radar and asked critical questions. The menace can't just continue.

Please whatever you do, stay as far away from the township as possible. I am not familiar with Newcastle but I am sure you can find affordable accommodation in the city centre. I suggest you look for Newcastle based property agents on the internet and email them requesting for temporary student accommodation. They might ask for proof of your “course”  before they help.
The Municipals Government built well equipped student hostels all over the country that are quite affordable. The downside is that you might have to share a room with another student.

You have to admit that no country exports criminals like Nigeria. But I can't blame the criminals; I blame the events that led to the damage of our values and exportation of damaged humans. Desperadoes with an inverted value system. The truth is, the Nigerians with the best values are usually denied travel because they can't afford to pay the kind of bribes paid at some embassies or indulge in counterfeit documents. Only desperadoes can indulge in all that filth. You think a man who engaged in 4.1.9 or armed robbery to raise money and then travels, will then become a good citizen where ever he moves to?
