In this Lagos, they want to turn everywhere to market. The most annoying one is those on the roadside blocking traffic.

Yes there are street markets in the USA, but remember they have strict local and state laws.

In the USA, they don't destroy wares, they arrest and prosecute, and once one has a criminal record over there, many sanctions follow...

Destroying wares here is barbaric but it's better than facing litigation

MISPLACED PRIORITY!!

Very painful to do this in this hard time.

There are so many other means to handle this than taking all their goods.

Politicians that have committed so many unlawful things is been applauded.

I'm thinking aloud.

What if patrolmen are put there over a stretch of time as a deterrent to anyone who tries to set up shop, instead of stealing their food?

The photos look like thieves carting away loot to be honest.

Officers of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) have taken deliberate efforts to eradicate illegal markets in Lagos.

On the order of the commissioner for environment, Tokunbo Wahab, the officers were seen packing food items like yams and pepper owned by Traders running illegal markets at CMD/Magodo axis.

In a video shared the commissioner’s twitter account, they were seen packing all these items into their vehicles in order to restore normalcy in the area.

It would be recalled that two days ago, the commissioner announced that LAWMA has sealed Oyingbo and Alayabiagba markets in Lagos following series of unheeded warnings.

He also mentioned that other Other markets that risk imminent shut-down for improper waste disposal and sundry environmental infractions include: Tejuosho Model Market Phase 1, Ladipo Market in Mushin, Anjorin Market, Irewolede Plank Market, Idi-Araba Obele Market, Oni Baba Market,Oba Morufu International Market, formerly known as Ejigbo Market, Ijora 7UP Market, Okeafa Plank Market, Ifelodun Fruit Market, Amukoko, among others.

These guys are thieves in uniform..when them reach office you go see how dem go begin share the yam among themselves go give their wives for house..this is wat happens when u vote along tribal lines e red for you u con dey look for ppl wey u go use sense of duty format fend for yourselves..there are better ways of doing this things.. create a market and make it affordable before doing all these. That's why I like the Chinese.. in China they have enough ghost cities to house the entire close to 300 million Nigerians in decent well organised apartment. A country that plans..A company like dangote cement should normally be state owned with a govt agency that would guide the development of structures in a way we have enough to farm and house the entire population in decent well planned accommodation with all the amenities.. building estates that can house 10,000 ppl scattered every where across the 36 states with all amenities planned vi's a vi's schools..mass transit system....vocational institutes...factories....shopping mall..recreation centres....proper road networks and drainage system..but we don't plan as a nation we react..the reason why usa and China are developed is becos they are a proactive nation..we are reactive in nature waiting for thing to happen and then we react. Another thing is we have poor maintenance culture as a nation instead of fixing a porthole u wait until the whole road is damaged so you can award a contract for a road of 1billion naira for 10 billion naira to a company owned by ur cronies.

SAY NO TO ILLEGAL TRADING..

I don't support illegal trading but don't seize and destroy their goods..

Why not bring in the police to chase them away and block that place instead of destroying their goods ?

Don't forget Nigeria economy needs these small business owners to survive in the future, with proper taxation system and nurturing..

It's taxes from these businesses in the future that will pay that KAI officer's pension after his retirement..

So treat them with care, while enforcing the law of the government.

Wrong step at the wrong time, prices of food will further skyrocket due to market closures and clampdown on traders.....
The LASG should answer the questions below:
1. For the closed markets, did the LASG make available adequate waste disposal environment despite collection of daily, weekly and monthly dues/tickets apart from rents
2. The Magodo LG/LASG should confirm if dues and ticket fees are not being collected daily from the traders and that they are there in their orders. The govt needs to stop this knee jerk reaction to solving issues at this time. Unfortunate that many's livelihood have been crumbled/destroyed now undecided undecided undecided undecided undecided

Extremely heartless and hungry APC political touts in uniform!

On the other hand , traders can overdo too

I understand the need to sell and earn money because I am a daughter of stall owner in Idunmota when I was little, but market folks should be cautious where they sell and trade, especially on main roads often hindering free flow of traffic, insulting pedestrains and motorists who dare to walk or drive where they put their market with no recourse for existing enviromental and safety laws..

Bariga, Idunmota, Dosunmu, Balogun, Oyingbo, Yaba, Bajulaye, markets are getting worse these days because market women have taken over the main roads in these areas. Bariga market especially has taken over a large portion of the road that is even presently under construction, from Jagunmolu to Finbarrs College road to UNILAG

I believe both parties, KAI and market people should exercise restrain

The funny thing is that they won't go after the person that allocates them spaces to trade. Those are the main culprits but they will turn a blind eye to this fact.

Bros, you are right

Even the KAI brigade guys are running the show

They get their shares from landowners, CDA members who allocate illegal spaces to market people

As a matter of fact, that is how some Lagosians earn their daily money, collecting daily levies from those sellers and sharing with KAI for protection and prior notification when they are coming to raid.
