1) Some people from other states are joking that New Yorkers won't be allowed to come to their states as refugees. 2) Venice, just like Amsterdam, is known for its canals and boats. 3) Some people from developing countries are joking that at least it's not only their cities that get flooded. 4) HOV lanes are for vehicles with more than 3 passengers (high occupancy vehicles). It's restricted to such vehicles (just like BRT lanes are restricted to buses) in order to protect the environment by encouraging people to share vehicles. This man is jokingly asking if fish can use the HOV lane. 1 Share

naptu2: Where are those dummies, always rejoicing over any bad happenings in Lagos, as if the flood will select property of whom to ransack, Last time i checked, 70% of those sacked by flood in Lagos in Lekki areas are not indigenes. Those areas are occupied largely by strangers. See, this climate change will go round, it is just a matter of time, and to those that are yet toexperience any of such, you can't predict how it will hit you. Firslty, Lagos is even below sea level, coupled with the fact that majority of the land areas is covered by water. There is hardly anything to be done, since there are no highlands. Even with a proper drainage system in place, once the sea level rises, the ground water table will rise, and if that happens, the ground will automatically push up water to the surface. If stricter building standard measures are put in place for masses to follow, they will cry foul that the government is targeting the Igbos. No matter how many campaign is done, to stop people from litering everywhere, blocking drainages, building on flood paths, it will not stop. And if arrest are made, houses are demolished, they will cry foul. I am an Environmentale & Sustainability Manager in Qatar, despite the country been in the middle east, with only less than 5 days of rainfall per year, except recently that the effect of climate change is spinning the order. There are measures in place to tackle flooding, are they enough? No! But they do reduce the impact. The land is largely dry, and mitigation measures such as standby water tankers deployed in the low spots to suck water, drainages channeling water to deep wells that have depth of 100s of meters, standby team for emergency response, water pump machines installed at strategic places (those will be stolen within 24 hrs in Nigeria) and other measures. Communities are to report on a set platform of floods in their area, citing street details. It is largely effective, few hours after the rain has stopped, the water goes low. 2018 was the highest hit, but there has been readiness and preparedness ever since. Occasionally, there are still floods, but less impact after the rain had stopped. One factor that makes it effective is, the country is leaas than 3M, no one indiscriminately litres the floor, you will be arrested. The citizens are highly responsible, you can't even be seen spitting in public, or urinating etc. The country is sparsely populated and well planned as compared to any part of Lagos. That said, the world at large are experiencing the effect of year-long negligence and irresponsible decisions, the depletion of ozone layer, the excessive water use, poor waste management, litering of plastics etc, cutting down of trees, energy consumption (neglecting use of renewable energy), etc.

Rebelutionary: Nah... I don't badmouth my country, and I'm not a slave to neocolonialism. What I actually detest and find silly is people constantly justifying underdevelopment in their nation by constantly comparing and drawing similarities with better more progressive nations... Like, why the constant need for justifications?!! Instead of us to solve our problems or find better ways to improve our lives, we rather sit back and justify our shortcomings by searching for similar shortcomings in developed nations, and once we find them, we sit back and continue wallowing in mediocrity. If this was the mindset and approach of most Asian and Middle Eastern nations, they would never have risen to the respectable heights they have currently. |
