Why do students keep failing exams conducted by exam bodies such as WAEC,NECO & JAMB? The performance has been poor lately and what do you think is the cause of this mass failure? Is it the fault of the students, teachers or parents? Pls kindly share your experiences. |

Students keep failing, especially English Language. It's really a serious problem for the education sector in Nigeria. I think students should read more and stop wasting away their time on frivolities such as video games, films and so on. |

Students are no longer dedicated to their studies. Some teachers are also not dedicated to teaching. But students should be more dedicated and take it more serious because it's their future. If you fail, you're the one to bear the brunt, not your teacher. |

Every year when WAEC or NECO results are released, it's always poor performance. It's always one case of mass failure or the other. Could it be that all these people who fail actually failed these subjects or is there anything funny going on in these examination bodies? Can we say the exam scripts are properly marked or is there any form of compromise going on? Some students have complained of poor grading by exam bodies such as WAEC and NECO and even JAMB. The issue of mass failure in public examinations is worrisome to everyone but this can be tackled if we know the cause of the problem. We all know that these students are the leaders of tomorrow and if their future is jeopardized, this will ultimately affect the future generation. 2 Likes |

Could it be that the syllabuses are too voluminous for students to cover or is it that they don't know how to answer exam questions? 1 Like |

There are only two things I can allude to this dilema.LAZINESS AND UNSERIOUSNESS.In my days in secondary school,we do massive midnight/weekend reading while preparing for exams. But what do you see today?Students and parents alike looking for expo.Facebook, internet dating, movies, music, careless living are the order of the day.Private schools are not helping matters also. They are the ones buying expo from waec officials to give to their students to boost their image as great schools. That is why we have many graduates who pass through the universities but they can't defend their certificates. Our leaders also have made things worse. Many youth now believe hardwork is a curse. You don't need to study hard to become relevant in the society.Just press some buttons and get connected that is all.Our leaders are the worst models to inpire youth educationally.God save Nigeria. 4 Likes |

The mass failure may not be unrelated to the diminishing value of education and hard work given that our societal values are more focused on money, irrespective of how you get it. There is not much room for meritocracy in the workplace, most people are more focused on connections. Moreover, it is easier to get a fake, bogus certificate and become a politician to RECEIVE the big bucks while your fellow citizens look on and seek the face of God to come to their rescue - fix their schools, health centres, roads, electricity, tap water, police security services etc. |

The truth of the matter is that students no longer read. It is very surprising how a student can mention the names of players in Europe and their coaches as well as how much these people earn but do not know the name of Nigeria's Senate President. Just visit any newspaper stand in the morning and you will discover that 90% of the people around there are either discussing football or reading sports papers. Again, instead of tapping the benefits of technological advancement through e-learning, Students are busy chating on facebook, 2go, netlog etc. Many students have access to internet but hardly google any academic work other than chating. It is also very rare to see a student using his/her personal money to buy textbooks except the ones bought by his/her parents. But students bet over N5000 during football matches. Teachers on the other hand need to change their pattern of teaching as technology changes every day. Many teachers still use old methods of teaching, which are not at par with current realities. So things are changing everyday and teachers must as a matter of fact change their teaching techniques. For instance, after giving a test to Physics class at Preston University by Prof. Eistern, a graduate assistant who was supervising the exam asked Prof. Eistern "Prof. was this not the same exam you gave to this class last year?" Prof. nodded and said "yes it was the same exam". The graduate assistant summoned up courage and asked Prof. Eistern "How can you give the same questions to the students in a row" He replied " Their answers have changed" Therefore, answers are really changing everyday and Nigerian teachers should not rely on their old method of teaching so as to achieve meaningful result. In conclusion, students don't read again. Not only students, but Africans don't read except when they are writing exams. 1 Like |

Quite the main factors responsible for the cause of the aforementioned problem, especially the issue of distractions-social networking, sports on TV, etc. ASIDE FROM THESES FACTORS I THINK STUDENTS SHOULD LEARN HOW TO HANDLE DISTRACTIONS AND USE THE EMERGENCE OF THESE TECHNOLOGIES TO THEIR ADVANTAGE. 1 Like |
