Gov Hope Uzodinma pushed for Lawan emergence as APC consensus presidential candidate, alleges Lukman

08 November 2023

From the former director general of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Dr Salihu Lukman came the startling revelation that Governor Hope Uzodinma worked assiduously for the emergence of the former Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate of the ruling All progressive congress (APC) in the build up to the 2023 poll.

Lukman, in a piece titled “Agonising Experience of Being APC Member
Message to APC Leaders” expressed surprise that Uzodinma is among those in the good books of President Tinubu.

Lukman who was the immediate past national vice chairman North West of the APC claimed that he was among party leaders that rose to the occasion and resisted the attempt to impose a Presidential candidate on the party.

He further claimed that even after that, forces of reaction within the APC attempted to both sabotage and undermine the electoral prospect of the APC and all its candidates, especially Asiwaju Tinubu who was the Presidential candidate.

“I am not making any claim and I am not demanding anything extraordinary. My expectation is that President Asiwaju Tinubu and all his appointees, especially those saddled with the responsibility of managing his relationship with party leaders and members, should do so with humility and respect to other party leaders and members,” he said.

” As things are, it would have been more rewarding if one had been antagonistic, or opportunistic to the person of President Asiwaju Tinubu. When, for instance, party leaders who were boisterously opposed to the Presidential ambition of President Asiwaju Tinubu are today appointees in the Federal Government, and in the case of Governors such as Sen. Hope Uzodinma, who financed the attempt to manipulate the emergence of Sen. Ahmed Lawan as the consensus Presidential candidate of APC, emerging as the Chairman of Progressive Governors beat the imagination of every founding leader of APC, and in every respect heartbreaking.”

The Kaduna born politician remarked that it was incumbent on President Tinubu to live up to the expectation of returning the APC to its founding vision of becoming a truly progressive party.

Lukman who is on verge of concluding work on his book detailing his experience in the APC disclosed that he had met with Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who all chaired the party between 2014 to date on the way forward for the party.

He expressed concern over the antic of party faithful and officials in the corridors of the presidency hell-bent on stopping him from accessing President Tinubu to write the Foreword to on his book aimed at righting the wrongs in the party.

He noted: “Disappointingly, we are getting to a point whereby, once you are marked as someone whose views are not in agreement with the priorities of elected leaders, access is blocked.

“As things are, work on the manuscript APC and Transition Politics has been concluded and I am confronted with a brick wall. Access to both President Asiwaju Tinubu, Dr. Ganduje and many of the appointees close to them is hardly available.

“It is my hope that President Asiwaju Tinubu will write the Foreword. It is also my hope that both President Asiwaju Tinubu and all our elected and appointed representatives today, will always remember that the struggle to reform the APC and return it to its founding vision predates the emergence of President Asiwaju Tinubu as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If anything, President Asiwaju Tinubu provided leadership to that struggle and deservedly, he is today the main beneficiary.

“Therefore, let it be known, blocking access to President Asiwaju Tinubu, or refusal of President Asiwaju Tinubu to be accessible will not end the struggle for the reform of APC. Both President Asiwaju Tinubu and all his appointees must recognise that, indeed, reforming the APC is an integral part of the struggle for the development of Nigerian democracy.”

Continuing, he stressed: “Eight years after, we are still on the starting line. APC is becoming more and more a replica of PDP with all the negative attributes. We have spent eight years under former President Buhari motionless, in terms developing the needed initiatives for party building. Are we also going to experience another era of zero initiative for party building under the leadership of President Asiwaju Tinubu? Where is then the claim of being progressives? Where then is the justification or any link to being an awoist?

“It is no doubt agonising and troubling that President Asiwaju Tinubu is starting his leadership tenure of APC by sending a very strong disturbing signal that reforming the APC is not his priority. Because reforming the APC is not his priority, out of all the leadership materials available to the party, Dr. Ganduje is his best candidate.

“Having achieved producing Dr. Ganduje as the National Chairman, whether party organs are functioning or not, it is not President Asiwaju Tinubu’s headache. It was also the reason why even if the emergence of Dr. Ganduje meant marginalisation of the people from North Central in both the party and the Federal Government, it is not important.

“Perhaps, we need to remind President Asiwaju Tinubu and all APC leaders about Frantz Fanon’s timeless warning to the effect that ‘Each generation must, out of relative obscurity discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.’ President Asiwaju Tinubu and all APC leaders must be reminded about that APC founding mission of changing Nigerian politics, which is basically about internal reforms within our parties to facilitate the emergence of candidates for electoral contest through democratic means.

“President Asiwaju Tinubu and all APC leaders must not indulge themselves to imagine that simple defeat of PDP and producing former President Buhari and now President Asiwaju Tinubu as Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria equates to the political change Nigerians are desirous of.

“So long as APC will allow a situation that could be interpreted to mean consolidating the old political paradigm that promote lack of accountability and imposition of leadership, it means betrayal of the founding mission of APC.

“We can deceive ourselves to imagine that we can continue to succeed in emerging victorious in elections and successful leaders surround themselves with sycophants who only tell them what they want to hear, it will not change the reality of betrayal and it will not protect leaders.”

If the part allegedly played by HE Hope Uzodimma is true then those widespread massively rigged 'Agulu results' rigged against the President all over Igboland, as rightly suspected, was because of the half-hearted commitment of APC South East, to getting their party's Presidential candidate elected.

Though election is now gone and the President is focused on governance, the party will learn a lot by ensuring that the Asiwaju Tinubu tenure is not sabotaged by politicians who are not loyal to the party.

Just the allegation that a Nigerian of Southern extraction, Igbo Governor HE Hope Uzodimma, opposed the ambition of Asiwaju Tinubu and worked for the emergence of former Senate President Lawan , a Nigerian of Northern extraction, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, patriotic Nigerian of Northern extraction who genuinely wanted Presidency to go South, is really revealing.

It's truly revealing because at the same time HE Hope Uzodimma was allegedly working for the emergence of Senate President Lawan, his fellow Igbo who are top APC Igbo Leaders and Presidential aspirants like his HE Orji Uzo Kalu and HE Ogbonanya Onu were literally blackmailing the rest of other APC faithfuls that it was fair to cede the ticket to the South East.

As a matter of fact, that night, HE Ogbonanya Onu used very strong words to blackmail others on the APC Presidential manifesto Primary night. He didn't come straight with the rest of us that all the blackmail was an attempt to block Asiwaju Tinubu so that a dark horse like Senator Lawan will emerge to lose against an Alhaji Atiku in the main election and thus make 16 straight years of Nigerian President of Northern extraction a fait accompli. So that cry HE Orji Kalu was crying that the APC was unjust against Igbo was to benefit Senator Lawan and dash PDP's Atiku the Presidency. Smh

They must have thought the South West folks are naive enough to buy the PYO option they were dangling as if we don't know that Asiwaju Tinubu lokan. Smh.

That book will be very interesting. I will urge the author not to relent, he must keep appealing to those he needs their help to find the favour of Mr President.

Right now, APC has election to win in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states this Saturday. We will come back to this book after the APC's '3 over 3' victory lap. Check my signature for free stuffs!

If a free, fair and credible election is conducted in Igboland with full loyalty of Igbo APC members, absence of hate, lies, bigotry and intimation of APC members by some Igbo who switched from being members of the outlawed IPOB to LP mob, no massive criminal thumb printing of ballot papers for LP and there is no vicious threats to kill APC members and those Igbo and Non-Igbo who vote for the President and APC on that election day, I am 100% very sure that the number of the total valid votes cast in Igboland for the APC in the Presidential election will be far far less, most credible and the APC would have performed and got nothing less than 40%-50% of the total credible valid votes cast while the other parties will share the rest 50-60% among themselves.

The vicious intimidation of APC voters and massive rigging in Igboland for LP was the proof that Mr Obi is not truly popular and the votes were inflated. Patriots like Late Chief Leo Alachuna, were too many to count, who were either intimidated or killed for supporting APC. No such thing happened in other parts of Nigeria against any political party and definitely not against the Igbo supporters of Mr Obi in Atiku's NE or Asiwaju's Yoruba South West.

It is pitiable that you believe politicians who talk about the turn of their geopolitical zone to hold power. They don't believe in it! They know there are slow thinking people who will buy into it and support them sha. It is all about personal interest and nothing more. How has the fortunes of the ordinary Yoruba person improved since Tinubu rigged himself to power?

Yes, Hope and OUK supported Lawan because they reasoned it will give them the opportunity to be his running mate. It is selfish interest. Ogbonnaya Ọnụ that cried about the turn of ndịgbo, why didn't he cry about the marginalization of ndịgbo by the govt he served for almost 8yrs, since he cared so much about igbo matters? It is all about interest.

Do you think Tinubu is not aware Hope was not with him? He knows, but is using Hope to entrench APC in the south east, just as Hope is using him to win a 2nd term and further his political interests. It is called ojoro cancel ojoro.

On the result from Agulu, shebi you people say Igbos can never have one voice/vote and support one of their own? Well we proved it to you people that we can only support one of our own who is very competent, with an unstained white. In Igbo land we treasure competence and integrity (forget about charlatans like Hope that you are used to seeing parade as igbo leaders, they don't enjoy our support or followership) The result from SE were what they were because INEC disenfranchised our people by refusing to turn up on time or not show up at all. A lot of people couldn't vote. We were ready to vote and churn out out numbers!!! Na why they turned off iRev and wrote fictitious results.

About APC, Buhari demarketed the party so much that it can only win elections in the north where expectations from govt is zero. Those who took over from him are not doing any better. Asiwaju might have captured the elephant but can he rein it in?

But people like El-rufai who made sure power went to south were betrayed by Tinubu.

Yahaya Bello that worked against him is having his endorsement.

APC can't have 3 out of 3 in the election.

Not surprising nah. Shebi it was Orji Uzor Kalu who lead Ahmed Lawan to Buhari and presented him as the South East consensus candidate for the Presidential seat because he (Kalu) was afraid to face Asiwaju Tinubu is the Primary.

Same idiot later wanted Asiwaju Tinubu Jagaban to support him to be the Senate President. So, it's not surprising that some other flat heads like him will definitely support him at the background.

But the god of Politics Emilokan Asiwaju Tinubu Jagaban humiliated them all.
