Affiliates of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) in Lagos State, on Tuesday complied with the directive of the two labour unions to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that the National Executive Council meeting of the labour unions, held on Nov. 13, 2023, in Abuja, had resolved to embark on the strike.

The decision was due to the alleged failure of the Federal Government to address issues affecting workers, such as the minimum wage, insecurity, corruption, and poor governance.

Also, both unions had made some demands, which the government had allegedly failed to address following the recent crisis in Imo that resulted in the alleged brutalisation of the NLC President, Mr Joe Ajaero, and other members of the labour unions.

Meanwhile, the government on Nov. 13, warned both unions against embarking on their planned strike action, saying it would amount to contempt of court.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, in a statement, said the government had obtained a restraining order from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria barring the unions from going ahead with the strike.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General, Nigeria Union of Railway Workers, Mr Segun Esan, told NAN that the union was involved in the strike and no train was running as a result.

β€œIn effect, therefore, all the workers of Nigerian Railway are duty-bound to join the nationwide strike action from zero-zero hour of Tuesday, 14th November, 2023 by staying back at home and away from their offices.

Tribalism will not work again against the United Labour Union.

Imagine committing abomination and using divide and rule to escape punishment.

MC Olumo should go and beat the US Ambassador on official duty and let the government keep quiet and make no arrests and see if the USA will clap for the presidency. I insist that NLC has more clout than any Embassy in Nigeria.

Who born monkey to beat the Labour Union President and go scot-free?

You will get an announcement in the next few hours that the SW NLC and the Northern NLC are not part of it.

You can take that to the Bank

Joe Ajaero cannot be calling National Strike because his favourite Candidate lost the Imo election Calamitously

Unfortunately, Ajaero is not involved in this latest decision to go on strike. He may have been the one holding onto Labour to obey Court Orders but with his absence, the hawks deputizing him will be behaving like Simon Ekpa as we see in the absence of Nnamdi Kanu.

Where is Helinues the jobless dingbat who said that the strike will not hold? How market?? I'm sure you thought that your bedwetting lord and savior could buy his way out of every situation, right?

You've learnt a valuable lesson today; that there are just some things that you can price but you can't pay for. Let that marinate.

I'm not in support of the strike, but beating up the Chairman of a whole country's Labour Union is completely unacceptable! No where in the world will this be tolerated. Yet the President is silent, as if nothing happened. Not even a simple apology.

It is a slap on the face of Nigerian workers, that is why there is FULL compliance. It could've been anybody. If it happens to Ajaero today and it is left unchecked, it can happen to Tunde or Bashir tomorrow.

It doesn't matter whether you are in Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt or Enugu. Na the same cry everywhere.

Common food is no longer common for an average man.

'Give us this day, our daily bread'. Unfortunately, bread has become a luxury food. A painter of garri now above 1500.

Some of the promises made by the government to workers are yet to fulfilled and you expect the workers to keep calm

Ironically, the same government asking us to endure keeps channelling billions to their own personal pocket.

Just read today government directives to RMAFC to increase the salaries of judges.

Anyone who obeys the strike from Igbos should be arrested and jailed, period!
We are religion of piece.
