Current Nigerian Political Structure: Formula For Success Or Failure? by naijaking1: 11:44pm On Sep 14, 2007
More than 100 days since President Yar'dua took office, many people are yet to notice any significant changes in policy and management style from his predecessor- OBJ.

Some people even think that there would be no significant changes even after 8 years in office.

Meanwhile, other nations (Thailand, Malaysia, Venezual, Brazil, India) similarly placed like naija are zooming past us in terms of industrialization, economic and technological advancement.

So, this question is asked again: Is the current Nigerian political structure helping or hurting our growth as a nation?

No, far from giving anybody kudos, I want a thorough analysis of the reason(s) why we have not made much progress since independence.

i know what u are trying to say, the present politcal structure is too expensive, we should adopt the british parlimentry system rather than the american presidential system. The reason i say this is that for example ministers & state commissioners should be appointed from assembly members instead of new people from outside therby cutting down the wage bill. Secondly there should be a prime -minster & premier question time every week, this is a forum in which the Present & the various Governors would be scrutinise about his/her policy by the oppostion. Unpopular policies will not be dumped on a state or country by the Govenors and President of the country.

The entire naija structure since independence, civil war, and post military era seem defective.
